Is the Lenovo Legion GO THE ONE?

In this video, I wanted to discuss the Legion GO in comparison to the Steam Deck which has been my favorite portable gaming device over the past couple years. This is a Windows 11 device and with that comes a lot of challenges from a refinement standpoint but also simplicity in terms of running competitive multiplayer games. Do the benefits that this device has over the Steam Deck outweigh the drawbacks?

The Lenovo Legion Go is the one you want if you want the best looking and most immersive gaming experience while laying in bed or on the couch. The Steam Deck and Rog Ally is the one you want if you wanna take it anywhere as they’re both lighter. However as someone who owned the OLED deck and the Rog ally. It just doesn’t compare to the legion go. That damn display is just so immersive and beautiful, it blows the competition out of the water. Playing games like Cyberpunk, Fortnite, overwatch, Skyrim, GTA 5 just feel 100x better playing it on the Legion Go. Steam deck and Rog Ally definitely has its advantages over the legion go but for the most part. Legion Go takes the cake without a doubt.

Yeah, I’d agree. I’m absolutely a fan of the go. I think that the display is fantastic. It’s a much more immersive experience than the Deck. But for people who want that console experience, I’d say the Deck is the better option. Thanks for your comment!!

@@jackofmanytrades I’d agree with you on there too as the deck does feel like more of a traditional handheld and closer to console experience. Since we’re on the topic, you should try playing Gears 5 on the Legion GO! Currently playing it right now and it is a blast.

Thanks for your honest interview on the Legion Go, I like the steam deck better, but to each their own .

Yeah, it definitely is a personal preference type of thing. I think both have their place. But the deck is a bit more polished for sure!

I'm wanting to get it and then add bazzite steam os. Then I can basically have a windows handheld and a steam deck in one. And ofcourse you can emulate games too. I'm wanting a legion go for emulating switch games cause the steam deck oled can't run a lot of switch emulation games due to specs.

@landengoodner9841 ah I see. Yeah, bazzite is definitely a route you can go if you want to have Steam OS 👍 I think that sounds like a pretty solid plan. I haven’t tried too much switch emulation on the Steam Deck LCD. But the games I did try ran pretty well.

Before I purchased the LLG I read all the common complaints: no vrr, bad speakers, short battery life, loud fans, etc... I'm so glad I did not listen to those people. If you want a solid allrounder this is the one. It has more processing power than my 3 year old i7-11800H dell laptop and it ran every title I threw at it so far at 1920x1200 above 30fps. I can also get other tasks done, even make beats using processor heavy VSTs. That's enough for me. The speakers really do suck though, but hey, can't have it all 😂

Absolutely! That’s been my experience! I feel like there are a lot of PCMR purists who have been voicing their opinions very loudly on the device. But it’s really not the end of the world. The one thing I’ve done to improve the speakers is using the audio console to change the EQ. If you reduce some of the mids, it should reduce the unpleasant sound of the speakers :)

Speakers can be improved to be quite good, VRR is apparently not really essential on these small screens. A really good program to gain frame rate is lossless scaling. Google a tutorial on lossless scaling it's a game changer on the handhelds. Use Google to find how to rectify any problems you may have.

A middle ground idea is to install a gaming centric Linux on the Legion Go (or Windows on the Steam Deck). As I don't play competative shooters, I run Bazzite Linux on my Legion Go, and Steam OS on my OLED Deck. I don't have a particular preferance between them, but plans going forward. The Deck I use now for lighter gaming, especially relaxing around the house, and the Legion Go for more demanding titles. This is mainly down to the Legion Go being able to utilise eGPUs. As for the neutral stance, I love the size and immersion of the Legion Go, but miss the depth of colour with the OLED Deck, and vice-versa.

Very well said, I think it’s definitely important to realize the strengths and limitations in any system. Thanks for sharing!

Some people are more sensitive to that than others. I don’t mind it so much. But if it’s a dealbreaker for you. Maybe you’d like the ROG Ally

It’s not for everyone. But honestly on a device like the go, I don’t miss it.

LLG is loud af garbage. You cant stand performance mode, you hear only sound of cooling. You cant use this pc in performance mode (1h up to 1,5h battery life LOL).

I play on performance all the time. Sat in a park playing ratchet and clank at 1600p on low settings with ease.
