Speed, weight, balance and gravity are the factors of manual, you need those factors to keep your front wheel off the ground without pedaling.
If you can wheelie, learning manual is a step forward.
Building the manual machine with scrap wood that you don’t need, measure the size of the bike, wheel and tires and then build it.
The manual machine is a manual trainer that holds your rear wheel in place, you practice and find the balance point with the front wheel up.
This trainer will eliminate the need to bring your bike out.
After 5 hours with the manual machine, 1 to 2 times a day, each time 5 to 15 mins, this is what I got.
I removed the seat to get more space around it.
What I’ve learned so far:
- Lift the front wheel with your body weight, don't pull the handlebars with your hands.
- No brakes, arms straight, find the balance point, use your hips and legsto shift front and back and hold it as long as you can.
- It was hard to get into it at the beginning, the arms, legs and back muscle get sore easily and I couldn’t work more than 10 mins with it.
So what are your thoughts on the manual machine? Is it effective? Let’s get the bike rolling and find that out.
At first, it’s a different story when you manual with the bike rolling, it’s harder to stay balanced, I struggle to move my hips back and fourth with the wheel rolling, unlike the manual machine, the rear wheel is held in place and you have more confidence and control with it.
I guess more practice is needed for success.
To summarize it, I can’t say that the trainer is worthless, it’s a first step preparation, it helped me to find the balance point and also the main factors to manual.
