This time on 427 Motorsports, we're taking a look at what we believe to be the beginning of the end - the last GTI made for the enthusiast behind the wheel.
Great video lads. Totally agree about the touch screen/lack of physical buttons. It’s a step backwards. Have driven both Mk7.5 and Mk8 Golf’s and have to say the the Mk8 was a head wrecker! Something as simple as adjusting the heater control (dragging finger across non-descript shiny surface) would have you taking your eyes off the road! I couldn’t live with that as an everyday car. But I would love the Mk7.5 GTI in my dream garage, enjoy it👍🏻
We genuinely wouldn't be surprised if the amount of accidents increases because of all this. But hey, more wrecked cars means more new cars. Maybe it's all one big conspiracy. Who knows! Cheers for the comment Tom!
Just a comment on YOUR 7.5 GTI - it's the lower-spec model. The better model is the Performance with LSD, bigger brakes, and a bit more power. The mk8 has the LSD from the 7.5 Performance - hence why it drives better (partly) than your non-Performance GTI. Performance GTI's have red brake calipers with GTI on them, and a red GTI front & rear badge as indentification.
The discover media and discover pro navigation multimedia systems are actually one of the best in the market. Maybe you are dealing with a broke antenna.
It’s strange but I find my mk7.5 GTI Performance more comfortable on 18 inch wheels than equivalent R-Line on 17 inch wheels. I find it strange but I really can’t complain about the comfort having previously owned Scirocco R on 19 inch wheels
Great review and I share your disdain for the all Digital Mk8 controls. Looking for a 7.5 in the US but it's difficult to find one witha DSG and low miles at a decent price.
Erm, Ive got a PP 7.5 and for me its not a hot hatch, at least not in the true sense of the word, yes its a hatchback, and it goes, but its to heavy, and not lively enough to be a hot hatch. True hot hatch is XR2, Xr3i, Citroen Saxo VTs, Clio 182, Civic Ep3 etc. Hot hatch should be light, twitchy. small and over powered, twitchy, with lift off oversteer, kart like. Golf gti is a great car dont get me wrong, but its no hot hatch.
The Golf was always heavier and less lively than its contemporaries, they were more solid and arguably better built. By that logic then, there never was a hot hatch golf.
@@427Motorsports Golf Mk 1 and Mk2 16v could be considered hot hatches, it's not just about the weight its how the car handles, the feel of the car. I've got a 7.5 PP and it's a stunning car, makes the daily commute fun, it whisks you along but for me it doesn't feel like a true hothatch.
I do love the torque converter joke but I just wanna make sure you’re aware that DCTs (dual-clutch transmissions), don’t have a torque converter. Just a heads up in case you weren’t aware!
Funny enough, Tomo didn’t actually know that because it’s way too modern and newfangled for him. But that’s awesome, thanks for the heads up! :) The more you know!
I think I will have a 7.5 by next year but did not know I could possibly find one in 3 Door format. They might not have come to Canada as a 3 Door which kills me as I really think of a GTI as a 3 Door. Funny how ya can get stuck on something as goofy as number of doors. I did not know that about the Parcel Shelf! Awesome video! Thanks so much for posting, editing is excellent!
I've got the same car, and never had a problem with the built in maps. It was easy to update them, and then they can go online easily too for traffic and petrol prices etc. (I've added a 4g dongle to the car). Carplay and android auto don't work on 2 screens on any cars except very, very recent ones.
Whilst you’ve got the sat nav on the instrument cluster if you press the Ok button on the steering wheel it will make the maps larger by making the Speedo and rev counter smaller 👍🏽
@@427Motorsports if you’re spending most of your time sitting in rush hour traffic, then I would question why you bought a car in the first place, and let alone a sporty one…
@@427Motorsports Ive driven a dcc model and its much more comfortable and forgiving. I think the standard shocks are just stiff so they can do well in all areas
Except extra power of course (10hp [230hp] in GTI trim, 15hp [245hp] in Performance trim). Also the mk7 GTI DSG is 6spd, the mk7.5 DSG Performance is 7spd
@@visionsinblue7093 that’s all marketing. You can’t feel that extra 10hp at all. Literally, and I mean literally, all the factory did is add 1psi more factory boost to the car. I guess you are right on the 7spd DSG, but it still doesn’t make the car faster over the 6spd, nor does it make it more economical. So kind of weird that people think it’s better 🤷♂️. It’s just stronger, that’s all.
