Is The Telluride Still The Best 3-Row In America? | 2022 Kia Telluride Review

The boxy Telluride has been an enormous success for Kia. In the past Kia has offered logical alternatives to the Highlander but none that really were designed to be "segment busters." That all changed with the new Telluride because with this new model Kia decided they needed to be best in class when it came to legroom, 3rd row room, cargo room, towing, design, and of course their traditional value proposition. They may not have hit all the targets (there are a few roomier options), but the combination of room, style and value is pretty hard to beat. Clearly the market agrees because the Telluride is one of the hottest new vehicles on the market right now.

We love our '21 Telluride SX. Got it for MSRP in May of last year (some dealers have been charging over MSRP since the Telluride first launched, even before the recent market craziness, but we found a great dealer). It absolutely nails what it is trying to be -- a spacious, comfortable, stylish crossover that offers a lot for the money. We came from a '16 Acura MDX and we like the Telluride better in almost every way.

Yes, I was just at a Kia dealer in south FL yesterday. They were adding a market up of at least $10K to the few Tellurides I saw on the lot. One $46K Telluride had a $12K market to a price of $58K!

Fun fact, Kia's original logo was an oval because they were a contract manufacturer for Ford in Asia, and it allowed them to easily swap badges on the assembly line, depending on whether the car was being sold as a Ford or a Kia. It was literal badge engineering.

I love the look of the 2023 front end. I always hated how the amber marker light circled the headlight. Kia and Hyundai have really come along way in recent years. 15 years ago I wouldn’t even consider them and now I’d take a Kia over a Toyota only because Toyotas are so expensive and don’t option their base models well. And as far as reliability, I honestly don’t see much difference between the 2. From personal experience owning both a Toyota and Kia and all the people I talk to who own them, their in the same ballpark. It goes with any vehicle, as long as you take care of it, it should be reliable…except for a Dodge, Chrysler, Chevy, Buick, Cadillac or BMW

Lol, the Toyota fanboys are going to troll you if they see this comment but what you’re saying is true, it’s not the 90s anymore. It's the best overall package in the non-luxury 3 row market and depending on your needs it's a better overall pick than some premium/luxury 3-rows too. For me after test riving one here's what I found its biggest strengths are; 1) Exterior styling - It appeals to the masses with a strong, rugged capable Range Rover kid of look. 2) Interior Size - Boxy design and generous width and height gives great interior room across 3 rows for the class in decent comfort. 3) Safety- All modern safety features standard across the board and decent led headlights. 4) Features/Functionality - Easy to operate touch screen and good use of easy to use buttons/switches. 5) Cargo - Again, design lends to great overall cargo space in it's class. 6) Quality/value: It's a great blend of decent quality and value at it's recommended msrp. 7) Warranty: Longest warranty in it's class along with Hyundai Pallisade. Weaknesses: (again subjective after testing): 1) Handling - Many won't care or notice and not a deal breaker but if you test drove it with say a Mazda CX-9 back-to back you should notice the Mazda more engaging to drive, which makes it a bit more sporty feeling and a better feeling of control and awareness of where the vehicle is pointed through the steering wheel. 2) Performance: Not a weakness but it could do with a bit more low end torque. Once it's up and moving it's V6 is decently strong. If it could match the Pilot's stronger acceleration it would be top of it's class in this regard. 3) Seat Comfort: I said above the seat comfort is decent, but it could be better. It's nowhere near as comfy as say a BMW X5/X7 in seat comfort but it's not in that class to be fair. The seats could do with a bit more cushioning and side bolstering. They are large for all shapes and sizes up but not great for side bolstering to keep you in place a bit better. 4) Fuel Economy: No hybrid option yet and with the crazy gas prices right now it's not the most efficient thing on the road for a family hauler. 22mpg isn't anything to write home about. 5) Engine Options: Kia could offer a hybrid/fully Electric variant in the future, or a more fuel-efficient turbo option or for now up the low end torque in the 3.8L. Overall a fantastic vehicle in it's class and it continues in high demand for good reason!

I tried Honda Pilot during an half week, i also tried Palisade... Finally i decided to get Telluride 2022 GT line trim 8 Seaters ( same trim than SX ) . This is the best 3 ROW SUV so far i've ever had!!!! Little bit shorter than CX9 but much more space room inside !!! Reason why i didnt chose Honda Pilot : exterior looking was'nt enough stylish, the panel control LCD is ... so slow, laggy... Reason why i didnt choose Palisade : Exterior looking is a little bit too soft, not enough masculine style... Interior is Great, but i really don't like the button for Driving! I’m a huge fan of the Nissan V6 motors but the amount of squeaks, shakes and rattles emitted from Nissan interiors will forever keep me away. Kia/Hyundai need to step it up with wireless phone connections on these top trim models. I also want them to allow me to purchase my large suv with 8 seats at the top trim level. I know the Highlander is technically in this category but the second and third row comfort aren’t even close. The Highlander should really be sold as a 5 seater. Better not let Sofyan hear you talking about those wheels. He thinks every vehicle should be all blacked out. I completely agree that the Highlander aligns better space wise with the Sorento. And I've had to bring my cars in for warranty fixes here n there. Just makes me chuckle everytime some old timer brings up consumer reports debate into today's discussion.

Difficult to compare with the hybrid cars. the problem is there isn’t one available for telluride. We have a hybrid we use for around town and our telluride is our trip cruiser. That 28-30 on highway isn’t all that bad and a hybrid probably wouldn’t improve that too much for the price increase it would demand. But I personally am all for any electrified version of the Telluride.

6:20 - interestingly, the Palisade *does* have 4-way lumbar. But I think it doesn't have folding mirrors. I would love me a Telluride but for medical reasons, I really need a 4-way lumbar 😞 But P L E A S E give me a bench seat in that top end trim you're reviewing! Same problem with Palisade 😞 Why oh why???
@hellkitty1014

Palisades still don't offer power-folding mirrors, which is so weird considering it is positioned to be over the Telluride. 2023 may address that.

Weird no mention of the Atlas in this video. You can get them much cheaper now than really any of the comparisons mentioned.
@th003g
@th003g 2 года назад
There's a reason they're cheaper. Hint: VW recently announced they are abandoning the 'Americanization' of their product line and going back to when they were Audi lite. The Atlas is a big crossover and that's about the only advantage it has. It is noticeably cheaper than its competitors inside hard plastics everywhere.

For the same price ($61k-65k-ish) you can get into a Volvo XC90 hybrid because of the $7,500 federal tax credit and California's rebates. 455hp, 55mpg. That's what I ended up doing.

I Doubt Kia/Hyundai will shoehorn their 1.6T/Hybrid combo into the Telluride/Palisades. (I have a Tucson HEV, possible oil dillution problem and other odd design choices) So unless they are willing to develop a V6/HEV combo, which would bump up the price......
@markmiller3279

No way will they do that, as the gas mileage wouldn't be good enough. More likely would be a hybrid with a bigger four (2.5l?)

@@markmiller3279 I doubt that too. The point I was trying to make is, to keep cost low, Kia/Hyundai did not try to develop they Hybrid drive train beyond the 1.6T and 6 speed Auto.
