The 2024 Toyota Sequoia Platinum with the TRD Off-road package might be peak Toyota Sequoia. Let's get the obvious out of the way first: the Toyota Sequoia has far less cargo space than competitors like the Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Jeep Wagoneer. With older kids, cargo space isn't our top priority, so we're approaching the 2024 Toyota Sequoia Platinum from less of a family hauler standpoint and more of a post-family hauler. If you need maximum cargo volume, just get a Chevy Tahoe and be done with it, but if you want an interesting intersection of style and capability, the Toyota Sequoia might be perfect for you. The iForce Max powertrain with its 583 lb/ft of torque is a joy to live with, and it makes the Toyota Sequoia feel more nimble and manageable than you'd think a full-sized SUV would be. It's so much more powerful than the Tahoe and Ford Expedition. With the TRD Off-road package, you get uprated Bilstein shocks and all of Toyota's off-road modes, and over the course of nearly 1000 miles on a family vacation to Walt Disney World, the Toyota Sequoia Platinum was unbelievably comfortable and easy to live with. Getting the combination of iForce Max power, comfortable ride, and more off-road capability than most people would ever need is what makes the 2024 Toyota Sequoia unique in the segment. With two teenagers, there was plenty of space in the second row captain's chairs, and with the third row folded down, we had enough space for all the suitcases we needed for almost a week at Disney. Again, with smaller children and more stuff to carry, the Toyota Sequoia won't work for you without a roof box or rear cargo carrier. Also, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia in Platinum trim helps to address one of our main criticisms of the Toyota Sequoia and that's the interior ambience and level of quality. It's not that the Toyota Sequoia is bad in this regard, but the competition continues to prioritize creature comforts and luxury. The Platinum trim of the Toyota Sequoia adds some soft touch materials and upgraded finishes along with ambient lighting and power everything to dress up what is basically the Toyota Tundra interior. To say that Megan was infatuated with this 2024 Toyota Sequoia Platinum TRD Off-road in Lunar Rock with the black trim would be an understatement, and it's now here new favorite candidate to replace our aging Chevy Suburban. What do you think of the Toyota Sequoia in Platinum trim? Would it work for your family? Let us know in the comments!

Thanks for the kind words, man! Yeah, Lunar Rock looks killer in this combo. I’m honestly not even that big of a fan of Lunar Rock in general, but when I saw it on the Sequoia TRD Off-road, I was like “perhaps I’ve misjudged you, Lunar Rock…” 😂

EXCELLENT REVIEW: I really like the banter and discussion between you two. I also really appreciate the impressions and touchy-feely comments. Too many car reviews on RU-vid are just a list of the features. I don’t need that, I can find that online easily myself. I want to know the impressions and opinions of someone who has spent some time in the vehicle. And you two deliver that big time. Much appreciated!

Love this review and LOVE Megan's fun personality!!! I'm seriously considering this EXACT vehicle but I haven't test driven one yet. I'm short (5'3") so I'm curious if the driver's seat can be raised enough to comfortably see over the dash and to the front of the hood. Probably a silly question but I feel so much more comfortable parking when I can see what's in front of me really well. I've owned two 4-Runners and it was fine but the Sequoia is larger so I would love to hear how Megan felt regarding the height of the seat.

@jax1079
@jax1079 4 месяца назад
Capstone is the highest trim, and it comes with the giant wheels and I believe air suspension is exclusive to that trim as well. I prefer retaining a little bit of that off-road capability the TRD Off-road has, and this one certainly wasn’t wanting for options with the platinum trim

Great looking vehicle. The engineer for this SUV should be fired at Toyota. It is a three row SUV that fails at cargo area space and third row which are number one and two functions of three row SUV. It is a $1,000+ payment and you need no compromises for that.
@jax1079
@jax1079 5 месяцев назад
I absolutely agree. It is curious to me that they “gave up” so to speak on packaging the hybrid system. Losing under seat storage in the Tundra is a minor inconvenience, but losing cargo space and the ability to remove the third row in a family SUV is kind of ridiculous. While we love the Sequoia for purely subjective reasons (and objectively the power is great), when we say it won’t work for most people… it ABSOLUTELY won’t work for most people. Like, it’s not even possible, which is a weird problem facing competition like the Tahoe that is fantastically spacious and carries stupid amounts of stuff. With the recent interior redesign of the GM twins, I can’t promise that the overall goodness of the Tahoe wouldn’t sway Megan back in that direction as a long time GM owner (we had a Trailblazer before the Suburban), especially now that you can get the excellent diesel engine in the Z71 package with the new interior.

@@jax1079i really appreciate you review, specially talking about the room inside. We are a family of 3, baby’s 14 month old and looking into an other baby. We also have a 100 pounds bernese mountain dog. So the 2nd row will be for the babies and the 2/3 of the 3rd row for the dog. I have a lot of mixed tought between this and The Wagoneer. i know the wagoneer will offer more space, but on long term owning, I’m pretty sure I can live with the sequoia using the 3rd row for the dog and use the 1/3 of the space for luggage and eventually, maybe put a box on the roof. Toyota is messing with the trunks of their suv. All hybrids suv has a raised floor ( 4runner, sequoia, landcruiser ). I think they should rethink those design. Thanks for that video. Really enjoyed viewing it

The tight legroom in the second row of the gx I think is an equal screw up to the sequoia cargo space issue.
@jax1079
@jax1079 5 месяцев назад
Disagree, the GX is a noticeably smaller vehicle, and the second row is not too small for that class... especially when the decent cargo space is factored in. Remember, in Overtrail trim, the GX 550 has a spacious cargo area thanks to the fact that it doesn't have a third row. The GX 550 in luxury trim forces you into a third row and the Toyota Land Cruiser uses that under floor storage for the hybrid battery pack. I think the biggest downside to the GX I've seen so far is fuel economy. A more powerful twin turbo V6 is nice, but it looks to be pretty thirsty. That might push us towards a loaded Land Cruiser where you trade a little bit of cargo space for a more fuel efficient iForce Max powertrain.
@pstulac
@pstulac 5 месяцев назад
@@jax1079it is definitely smaller but take a bunch of midsize SUV's and it's tough to find second row legroom as small as 36.7" other than in an LC... Defender 110 38.4", Audi Q7 38.8", BMW x5 37.4", Explorer 39", Grand Cherokee 38.2". I guess if you aren't putting adults in the 2nd row a lot it's fine but in a Luxury SUV I would expect more which to me was inline with expecting more out of the cargo space in the sequoia. With the GX they could have figured out a way to get a couple more inches of leg room. It's just disappointing and having me look to another vehicle.

Best Sequoia review I've seen and I've watched sooooo many! I think I'm wanting to trade my '23 Sienna for one! I have 3 kids but my youngest is 9 so we don't have to haul strollers or anything like that. My boys do play baseball though so I'm thinking of the limited trim with a bench seat in the second row so we have the option to put the 3rd row down if we need more cargo space. My husband currently drives a '22 Tundra and the back seat in that truck is massive so I'm thinking the Sequoia would be similar with a bench. I also want the Lunar Rock color with the nightshade package!

This truck looks amazing but unfortunately with the new powertrain for this new generation I have concerns about it's reliability/cost of ownership. Toyota put two big turbos in this thing in the rear which makes it hard to service and where heat may build up. If these turbos go bad down the line in the years to come, you'll essentially be stuck with repair/replacement bills in the $12,000+ range. Toyota also added new technology to the engine bay. If I were to get this I definitely would not expect it to be as reliable as the previous generations with the V8. I would look to trade these in after a couple of years. In the meantime, it would be a very nice truck to own. It just looks boxy and mean and since this SUV is a body on frame based truck, you know you'll be safe out there on the roads.
