I’m extremely disappointed in Leon’s willingness to screw over Belal like he wasn’t in Belal’s position a few years back I get it the big fights trump the regular contender fights this is a business but this cannot be the norm it should be the exception otherwise why have rankings? Merit should matter and for all the people insulting Belal I bet you guys would feel different if this was happening at your job to you. There have been successful ones but they've had other social media followings as well or had a good narrative, like Khabib was the good guy in the Conner feud, Chael was amazing at trash talk, Colby just does his thing in trying to make everyone angry to distract from his boring style. Look at the champions at the moment, heavy weight has Tom Asinall, great striker. LHW have Pereira, a kickboxer. Middleweight have DPP, a brawler but primarily a striker, WW have Leon Edwards, a good striker with good TDD. Lightweight have Islam who is gaining popularity for his personality and style. Its wrestling based but its not American wrestling which is "boring" to watch. Featherweight have Tuporia with huge KO power. Bantamweight have O'Malley, a striker with great precision and a big social media following. Flyweight have Pantoja who is all gas no breaks no matter where the fight goes. WBW have Pennington who is only there cause Nunes retired. WFW have Grasso, a striker who beat another striker. Strawweight have Weili who is entertaining no matter what she does. Belal Mohammad is boring like Colby and Usman. American wrestling is just holding people down, no offence, just stifling. Its entertaining if you like wrestling like I do, but there is a reason why Esparza needed 5 fights to even fight for the title vs Rose who is known for being a really entertaining striker. He's a good fighter, but gets hit by the double whammy of, the ufc both wants fighters to market themselves and the ufc being able to make any fight based on how marketable a fighter is. If someone doesn't have a great way of creating a fanbase on their own and then bringing that fan base to their fights, then they get constantly passed over. The ufc just won't do the promotion for fighters anymore, and it kinda sucks. Take Stipe for example. The greatest heavyweight of all time, a super funny guy, a working firefighter, but he can't get fights just because he doesn't put on a character and flood the internet with self promotion. Where somebody like Colby gets pretty much every opportunity he wants, and it's all because the ufc seems to have decided that they don't want to do fighter promotion anymore, it's up to the fighter, and for somebody like Belal who is just not the best at it, they'll just wait until either they need him on short notice or he goes on a losing skid. It's all becoming harder to watch really, it's less and less like an actual sport at the higher end of fights.
