Might need wind baffles for the outside units on the heat pumps. If wind blows across the fan it can send it into an error. Look up wind baffle for the brand of unit you have and they’re fairly easy to install, it’s 4 screws

Agreed; if the install put the exterior heat exchanger into the wind, they can get very upset with wind pushing into them and messing with the fans. Baffles should fix the problem. (It doesn't have anything to do with the interior temperature.)
@andrewgilbreath1331
@andrewgilbreath1331 Год назад
25+ years in the HVAC game, you need low temp wind baffles on the outdoor unit. Those mini splits are funny about how much air goes across the outdoor unit. Also it could be a building insulation issue, when the wind blows it maybe chilling the building enough that the units can't keep up. If you had the same issue with a gas furnace I'd tend to lean that way.
@thechieftainofseir
@thechieftainofseir Год назад

@TheHostess13
@TheHostess13 Год назад
7 years as a Licensed Professional HVAC Engineer. The low temperature wind baffles is absolutely the correct answer to solve the problem. Larger than anticipated airflow across the condenser will cause the head pressure controls to trip causing refrigerant bypass in the system. The mini-split heat pumps also have built in defrost controls preventing ice buildup, this will cause the indoor unit to blow cold for a period of typically 5-10 minutes. As for the furnace when the wind blows, again I agree with Andrew that it could be a building insulation (infiltration) issue. I have seen field issues where specific conditions have caused the flame to blow out, which will cause the unit to retry ignition. In the meantime, the furnace blower will continue running and blowing room temp air which will feel cold at the velocities in which it leaves the air terminals.

Like others said, the wind is either overspinning the fans or just blowing through the heat pumps. You will need to install the baffles, looks like Mitsubishi heat pumps and they do make them. The other thing you might need also need to do is to install some kind of wind-break for the heat pumps to prevent the wind from blowing through the heat pumps. Hope it helps!

nice glasses, and the refraction through them is real, so those are indeed real glasses, and great, those actually help a lot for any person that has bad eyesight, just one thing, you can see that they are sitting at an angle on your face, it is not a big issue for short time, but for a few hours, those can strain your eyes more than they should and you could get headaches, just try to get them straight on your face, and if it is the arms that are somewhat not straight, it is really easy, any shop that works with them can use a small special heatgun to heat the plastic a bit and bend it back to straight, or you can do it yourself, just remember, barely any heat, no need to melt it

Fun fact, if I recall correctly, Han Solo’s use of parsecs was actually correct! He said he made the kessel run in less than 12 parsecs which was impressive because there is a black hole that you have to go around on the way in order to not get sucked into the event horizon. Meaning he was bragging about doing the run in less distance insinuating that he passed into and subsequently out of the event horizon of the black hole and was able to do this because the millennium falcon is the fastest ship there is. The only one that can out run a black hole and do the kessel run in less than 12 parsecs 😎

Matt, most likely your mini split (heat pump) isn't a low ambient unit. So when the wind is blowing the gas is having a hard time transferring heat/cool. I would try a wind baffle all the way around the unit (leave about 2-3 feet of space) to protect it from the wind. If that doesn't help I would look at swapping it for a Mitsubishi Low Ambient unit. That's all we put in here in Colorado for commercial settings.

I build old Land Rovers and just a quick tip for remembering which bolts need to be checked: I always stick a piece of masking tape on or near anything that isn't torqued or needs to be checked. It acts like a little flag to alert anyone working on it that something isn't complete. As a bonus you can make a note on the flag what needs to be done. Super useful for me, because I can't remember anything. Love the channel my dude!

Hi Matt I’m in the heating and air business in Wisconsin and work on roof top hvac units every day. Depending on direction, we some times have to install high wind kits on the exhaust of the unit. This allows the exhaust to blow straight up instead of having the wind blow into the exhaust hood while it’s trying to blow out. That causes the air flow proving switch to open shutting off the burner. There’s what I know and run into. Good luck.

My guess is that when the wind is blowing your condensing unit is probably not expelling the cold air which is absorbed from the conditioned space and taken outside to the condensing unit and getting your pressures wonky and tripping some sort of safety. Heat pump is just running the AC in reverse. For an AC system to work it take heat out of a house and dumps it outside. In heat pump mode, it is trying to cool the outside and dump the heat in the house. When the outside temps are low and you add wind, it lowers the temps due to wind chill. Those low temps limit the ability for the condenser to dump its cold freon. So if it can't dump the cold freon then it just cycles back into the house. Put up wind brakes.
@porsche558
@porsche558 Год назад
Mini split systems use a heat pump. By design they extract heat from the air but that means part of them will get cold. If it’s really cold outside the condenser that sits outside will freeze up causing the unit to temporarily stop throwing heat until the outside unit unfreezes.

Heat Pump mini splits have a sensitive outdoor fan, along with very sensitive components. Heavy wind will affect the way the unit runs. As many others have said, build a wind guard but ensure you have plenty of room around the unit for proper airflow. User manual shows how close walls and eves can be to the outdoor unit. Your gas furnace would shut off in heavy wind because the flue pipe (natural gas exhaust, usually 4” single or double wall galvanized pipe sticking out the roof) was getting a back pressure into the unit. Once the unit senses that combustion airflow is no longer heading outside, it shuts off the gas valve and will retry soon thereafter. These are sensors that ensure combustion air is flowing outside!

It will dry out and get thick and clumpy making it hard to turn fasteners. 2. It is not very waterproof. I have replaced anti-seize with synthetic brake grease. It is waterproof and it doesn't smear all over everything it touches. I've never had it dry out from heat and use either. Just a suggestion. Wrecker is looking great.

Hey Matt and crew! I run a small HVAC/Electrical business in the capital region in New York and can say the heat pumps will work to specific low temp, commonly 5° unless it’s a high heat unit. The unit will then start running a defrost cycle to prevent the coil from freezing while creating heat to send to the indoor coil. This hurts the heating cycle by reducing it to almost half thus creating a “no heat” symptom. Keep up the great work!!

I liked the old New Process 203 all time transfer case, they had a lockup inside the transfer case for when off the pavement, too many were given front locking hubs to unlock the front axle, requiring to run the transfer case always in lock to power the rear, end results damages the internals as they were never designed for the load to be solely placed on the rear of the case, it was done mostly to improve gas mileage, something you need not be concerned with, it is a 4x4 truck, buy a 2wd if MPG is top priority. I once did an awesome burnout in a parking lot with a 76 Chevy SWB with a NP203, it ended in disaster, shattered the adapter between the transfer case and 350 turbo transmission, dumping transmission fluid everywhere, but it did make it back home.

About your heat pump issue. 1. Heat pumps are not designed to raise the temp of an area rapidly. If you shut off the heat overnight or cut it back significantly it will not recover well. And you will waste energy. 2. If the outside temp in your area drops below 35 you need auxiliary heat that automatically cuts in. Such as electric, oil, or gas. 3. The wind factor probably has to do with added heat loss from your structure making the heating systems job more difficult. High wind during a heat pump defrost cycle can extend the cycle during which time the unit blows cold air. Especially with a time and temp defrost system. This makes large temperature recovery almost impossible. 4. Get yourself a good HVAC tech to analyze your system and add in or fix and properly utilize supplemental heat.

@Blue84Stang
@Blue84Stang Год назад
I think that a parsec is a unit of distance AND that Han was right in the statement 'does the kessel run in 12 parsecs'. Here's how: The first and most basic question is, how can a unit of distance be an indicator of speed for a space-going vessel. The answer is fairly straightforward; the Kessel run most likely is in close proximity to an area of extreme gravitational pull, like a black hole or stellar nursery. To be able to traverse those areas requires a vessel fast enough to escape the gravity, and the closer you get to those gravity wells, the more speed you need. Saying "in 12 parsecs" means EXTREMELY close to those gravity wells (in astronomical terms), and would require an incredibly powerful ship to escape.

The heat pumps could be a freeze protection deal. Some of those newer mini-split style systems have that as an option. I'd definitely recommend a wind block for them for a couple reasons. 1; you don't want debris or dust being thrown into them, 2; the lower air temp is going to affect their efficiency and function. As for the gas furnace, I have no clue. That's a weird one!

Your rollbar may be strong but a strong hit from the front of the cab or tear away in a severe roll still need the proper protection.
