Is This Allowed?! Undone Recreates The Breguet Type XX? 

Who wrote the rules on Homage watches? Here's a thought... Wear what you like.

Colt’s model 1911 automatic pistol has been recreated by almost every firearm company ever. Almost everyone of them I’ve owned were great guns because the original design was so great. I’ve owned 1911’s by Springfield armory, rock island and some others I can’t think of right now. They all did heir jobs. I haven’t owned a colt for the same reason I haven’t owned a Rolex.. they are expensive.

ok, so you don't like homage watches. frederique constant? i think it's OK if it is of a very expensive rare or discontinued watch.

I would go with the Seagull 1963 for less money rather than this Piece of S***

Sorry to say this watch is heavily overpriced and poorly finished. Even the video shows the poor finishing of the case, caseback and other parts. The only thing that's good about it, is the movement from Seiko. Very disappointing this homage watch.

You should review the 1964 Dan Henry's its got really good reception, and personally one of the best chronographs for the price.

Have a look at the history of type XX chronos. Breguet may have been one of the first to produce them but dozens of watch brands produced the exact same looking watch back in the 50's and 60's. Type XX was like the Mil Spec models, the french military set the specs a type XX must have. And then they where inspired by the german flieger chonographs from the 30's and 40's. So this UNDONE is more an homage of an homage of an homage... I like it!

I dont mind homage watches as long as it's not a replica. I do mind lousy 30mm WR and mineral glass

First look was at the bezel without markings and the question if they are aware of the funktion of watch bezels at all.

I like it but cutting the “3” and “9” off is just a little thing that makes me go “hmmm”

Undone , you did well it looks so sick . To all budget challenged enthusiasts these watches gives us a chance to scratch that itch . Great episode T3 .

I was a big fan of Undone over a year ago, but now I think there are better alternatives for the price.

Unpopular opinion. If it had an tachymeter option it would be worth it.

It certainly wouldn't be added to my collection on my dime, but it would get some weekend wrist time. Edit: especially when the Seagull 1963 is the same price or cheaper.

As a new collector I did not even know about the Breguet type XX, so this in no way others me. I just regard this as a very legible chrono with a seemingly solid build. However I don’t understand a rotating bezel without minute markings. I have a problem seeing how you read it better than a no rotating bezel watch.

Undone is horrible

Jory, nice review, but, other than it being an homage, what else can you say about the watch? Thoughts on the meca-quartz? I noticed they opted for a 24hr inset dial, instead of including a running seconds dial on the 60 minute chrono. Is that a deal breaker? And is it a true flyback, as indicated on the Undone site? And speaking to Undone, I believe the panda is only one of 3 versions being offered of the type XX, including a sweet looking special edition with blue type and lume. How's the lume on the panda, anyway?

I have no issues with a good homage. I just don't like that the 9 and 3 are pointless slivers of what remain of the #s. Should have left the 3 and 9 completely off the dial. Other than that, it is a handsome homage watch at decent price. But, I think Undone botched the execution of the dial with trying to keep the 9 and 3.

Not sure who you know but I have a question. Have you ever given thought to designing your own watch and see where it goes? You do have a large fan base of subscribers. Just a thought, being that your are into and knowledgeable of watches.

This is definitely and homage of the type XX, which does not bother me. I think it was a weird choice to have a partial 3 & 9 when the orignal didn't include them. I really like that they didn't include a running seconds dial. Great review, thank you Jory :)

I don’t mind them. Well only because I’m economically challenged to buy the originals! In my collection of about 50 watches I only have 1 though. Good stuff T3

I'm undecided on the Seiko chrono movement

I shed crocodile tears for Breguet. *shrug* If they aren't clever enough to capitalize on their own design, then Undone - or anyone else - can absolutely take that spot, as long as they do a good job of it.

What's the deal with the white dust particle above the 3 in the left subdial? Jory needs to get his eyes checked.

I love homage watches and even admit the submariner ones are my favourite. But this just looks like any other panda dial chrono to me. That will never be called out as a homage

I'm a relatively new member of the watches/horology/time guild and didn't know about the breguet or homage watches subsection. I purchased it because I quite liked the look and the panda look is a nice touch. I agree that the glass is not great and I was frankly disappointed in the quality of the strap. Arrived frayed but having said that has held up better then expected. The lume is touch and go, but in pitch dark, solid. Overall I like it, alot. P.s. there is a scratch that came up, wouldn't happen with sapphire

First thing I noticed was the subdials "almost" cover the 3 and 9! What is the point of having a huge chunk of the numeral missing? I would have liked the subdials to be small enough to get the full size 3 and 9 or the 3 and 9 numerals removed as per the Breguet.

what qualifies as "hardened" glass?

It looks nice enough. My question is why doesn't Undone offer more expensive options for those of us looking to spend just a little more for a fully bespoke watch? Like, why can't we select sapphire? Why can't we select a screw down crown? Hell, why not make a mechanical movement available? If you're going to offer customization why not go the extra mile?

Good Honest review although i personally hate the watch . Homage watches are OK if the original watch is rare and or if the homage is done well . The Undone looks awful , just my opinion .

I'm starting to fancy these Undone watches. Their clean, well built and affordable.

type xx is a french mil spec, there are period type xx that are not from breguet, so technically there are no homage type xx, just spec type xx. right?

I have an homage GMT II with coke ceramic bezel. But is it really homage is Rolex has yet to release that exact combination ? Maybe I'll call it a concept homage watch lol.

I think a Patek Nautilus is pretty unreachable for a lot of us, so it's highly unlikely most of us would ever own one. Yet you totally ranted about those homages. It seems to me you're okay with homages that sends you stuff and just outright rant on the ones that don't. I like your humor and quite frankly, I like your rant videos even if I don't particularly agree with it. For entertainment value your videos are top notch, but I do feel there's some double standards floating about.

I love the look, but have been collecting a bit too many meca-quartz chronographs lately, so I'm getting a bit more selective about it now. Would definitely get one if they offered the option of a 12hr bezel in a sort of double homage Type XX/Huer Autavia.

Wow, Really impressive homage. Btw I really like undone watch even if I don't have one, than Seiko mechaquarz movement is really reliable and looks like mechanical ticking with chrono turn on. Don't like how there is just a little bit of the 9 and 3 showing.

I would have to say the watch is overpriced for the specs and design. 30m water resistance? Should have been at least 50. And I'm not a big fan of a panda dial, would have preferred a different color than such a stark contrast. I agree with other commenters in regards to still keeping a sliver of the 9 and 3. Seriously? At least try to make the sub dials fit within the numbers as I think cutting off numbers is not necessary. Would never spend that amt of money for a watch that seems more in the $150-160 range because of the specs. Good honest review Jory!

I'm a fan of panda chronos so it has that going for it. I don't have an issue with homage watches cause I'm poor 😂😂. I've looked at Undone and they have my interest.

Hands are too short. Why is this such a common failing? If you can't get hands to fit your dial, *your dial is the wrong size*. And re homages: I don't mind if it's an homage of something interesting, like Steinhart's Ocean Vintage GMT (an homage to the Rolex Explorer II 1655), but another Submariner homage? Good grief no, there's thousands of those around, it's beyond boring now.

„Undone“ below the „6“ makes seconds fractions tracking between 28 and 32 seconds impossible.

Dials with cropped hour numbers don't do it for me - 2, 3, 9, 10 - unbalanced and unappealing aesthetic. Seems like a lazy approach to dial design.

Let's be honest it's a bit of a minger, looks cheap as chips, the Baltic Bicompax looks much better built and styled to my eyes
