"Is This Ever Going To Get Better?" -- Ricky Horror of Motionless In White 

I'm a 47 year old mother of a 16 year old girl. When my daughter was 11, she began changing from a happy child to a depressed, withdrawn preteen. She began listening to bands like MIW and I know in my heart that their music and their message saved her life. I love them and will always be grateful to them. My daughter and I go to every concert of theirs that we can. They will always have a special place in our hearts.

I truly believe the reason MIW has put out songs with such poignant and powerful lyrics is because Chris and Ricky are both so well spoken and intelligent. They may be shy or quiet, but when they do talk, they seem so knowledgable and down to earth, and they’ve really been through some real shit. I hope I get to meet them soon. Since it's a little hard to hear and the auto captions have some issues: I'm Ricky Horror from Motionless In white and you're watching Heart Support. [Voices by Motionless In White- instrumental] You know, when I was younger, before I joined the band, I had a really bad bout of depression, and um I tried to commit suicide when I was 21. In hindsight I don't know that I necessarily Tried, it was more just like "This is my only way to say I need help, I don't know what else to do, this is my out." Everything in my life changed so drastically when I joined the band, but my thoughts still stayed so much the same that I was like "Is this ever gonna get better? Am I ever gonna feel any different than I did 5 years ago? Am I ever gonna get out of this hole that I feel like I've dug for myself?" I think the only cure to any type of mental illness-- I guess I shouldn't say any, cause there's a lot of variety-- but especially dealing with depression, I think a lot of it comes from figuring out, again, who you are as a person and trying to determine your self worth, and really trying to fight to believe that you are worth something, and you have so much more to live for than you think. I think a lot of people get caught up in the thought of "Nothing that I do matters, nothing is ever gonna change." Even though things might not change as much as you want them to, I think that your mindset can ultimately affect how you are as a person. What helped me was just, um, just changing my mindset about a lot of stuff. There was a book that really helped me when I was younger called The Power of Now, and a lot of it just has to do with how all of our issues stem from being caught not living in the moment. We're always striving for living somewhere in the future, or you're continually caught up in the past, and because of that, of living in those two extremes you're never right here, and those two things ultimately don't matter anymore, you know. Your past is gone, your future doesn't exist, so it's like that really shouldn't have a grasp on your mindset, and the only thing that really should matter is this current situation. And I think just kind of flipping my mindset to think, to try and think more of where I am right now in this moment helped a lot for me. I don't think that I necessarily felt like I was worthless back then, I think that it was more of "I'm never gonna get to where I wanna be, so there isn't really a point to me continuing on." You know "The odds of me doing what I wanna do are so slim, what's the point?" and I think that's a wrong mindset to think, you know, in hindsight. And now I think that if you really try your hardest, you could get anywhere in life. I think if you, if you have a will, there's a way, and struggling is just part of it. Everyone's gonna struggle. If you feel like you're struggling with something, talk to somebody because that's, I mean that helped me immensely. And I think that for a lot of people it's hard to go talk to somebody because then you're admitting that you have a problem, and people don't wanna admit that. They wanna just say "Everything's fine, I'm fine" and sometimes I think the best thing to do is to just surrender and say "You know what? I don't feel right." If something's not, not going well, the only way out of those thoughts is to talk to someone. And it's uncomfortable at first, sure, but I think that talking to somebody that has no, no real, I guess, involvement in your own, in your own personal life, it's almost like talking to a wall that has input for you. You know what I mean? So there's no judgement. I think it's just human nature to figure out what your purpose is and who you are and um, I don't think that that struggle ever ends. I think that it's just, at some point you become comfortable with "This is who I am, this is what I'm here to do, and I'm just gonna do it to the best of my ability." Um, I guess that's, that's the best that I can describe what my situation is. Motionless in White has helped me to leave my drug addiction and become as straight edge as a sober addict can be...I never thought a band of all things could do that but their lyrics are incredibly powerful... Also brought me and my 16 year old daughter closer...I hadn't seen her in about a year due to my use and when I went to see her she had a miw shirt on....she had no idea they were my fave band too...she had gotten a tat that says "open your mind, before your mouth".... So Ricky, Chris and the rest of the band you have helped bring a mother and child closer together... And that.. helps my depression.

He helped me more in these 5 minutes than my therapist in 5 years. 💞

Thank you for sharing Ricky. I too struggled with a dark depression in my 20s and 30s, not knowing where I fit in this world, questioning everything. Talking to someone was hard at first but man did it help. For whatever its worth to you, I brought my daughter to see your show in Boisé (Graveyard Shift) back in March 2018. We came from very far.. She too suffers from depression, anxiety etc and your music liberated her, she started talking about her depression..Anastasia adores MIW so I brought her to your concert... at the VIP meeting the whole band, listening to you guys and then taking that picture... wow, you guys made me cry and still cry to this date, your souls touched mine. I know it sounds efn weird coming from a career business woman in her very early 50s, but that day I saw part of me that was not healed yet. And yes you are right Ricky, it is a life long struggle... My daughter and I cant wait to come to your amazing shows and see the band in ur heartfelt VIP meets. Keep positive thoughts, and never give up any dream... lots of love to all.

When I feel bad I come to RU-vid to see this video, it calms me down and stabilizes me. Knowing that you are valuable is very important and I'm completely happy that Ricky can talk about that as something that he has overcome, for me he is an example to follow and a wonderful and inspiring person🌹🖤

I feel like sometimes we forget that band members and idols we look up to have also gone and are going through hard times. On stage and in music videos they look so cool and brave but in reality they also through mental health problems like you and me. I think we should try to express and show this more since it is normal and we are taught to just hide everything in. While actually even the people we look up to and see as perfect also deal with this.

I'm 17, went through quite a rough stage during the past couple of years, tried to kill myself and cut my arms repeatedly..... I felt lonely af, hated myself and the body I was born with (I'm non-binary) ; I was drowning and felt terrified of the future and what it could hold for me.... Music has always been a huge part of my (short) life, I grew up with Placebo as a soundtrack, for example, and just when I felt so hopeless, so lost about a year ago (when I was at the lowest) ; I found My Chemical Romance, Motionless In White, Black Veil Brides, Ice Nine Kills.... and so many others ! All of them, especially My Chem (my all time favorite band) and MIW, have helped me a lot. I finally found the strength to carry on, face my fears, ask for help...... And now, after a year of therapy and meds to finally sleep at night, I am proud to say that I'm getting better. I still feel lonely sometimes, I still struggle with my mother cuz she won't recognize who I am (she uses my deadname and still thinks I'll always be a girl and whatever), but I'm working through it and I'll be fine I'll find my way out, I'll be okay one day, and whatever happens, this time I'm ready for anything. So yeah, without bands I wouldn't be here today, and I'm thankful they all exist. Their lyrics and the raw, powerful emotion in the music pulled me out of a black hole, and I know damn right I'm not the only one. So thank you guys, and keep on rockin' I intend to see MIW in concert some day, when they come to France. I've seen My Chem in June, I'm gonna see Ice Nine Kills in March and I'm so fucking excited (: So yeah one day I'll see you guys Still you can all be proud of yourselves, you managed to touch the hearts of thousands, maybe even millions of people and make a difference. PS : sorry I wrote a whole friggin novel, I just had to get this off my chest (:

I have depression, and other disorders that I deal with everyday. For me I have gotten better within the past year but, sometimes something will bring me down so much. What I love to do is listen to music, for me music is my escape from the world. Ricky your story is impowering to the world, you are an amazing person.

When I was 16 I tried to commit suicide because of something big happened to me and ik that it'll still be in my life and I can't change anything about it & from time to time I still think about lots of things & MIW has helped me alot! And sure I cry while I listened to them it was because I was going through a tough break up and y'all are really awesome in concert and I was so happy I got to see y'all live I felt happy since I've been depressed

This video was published on my birthday and just hearing one of my role models talk about their experiences and how similar they felt to how I feel at times (since I'm getting better) really helps. I love you ricky. I promise you're not alone even if you think you are. Granted I know what its like to feel like you're completely alone. Especially when you're surrounded by people.I also know what its like to hide behind a facade of a smile and what its like to have to lie and say you're fine when in all actuality you're the furthest from fine as you possibly can be. Theres been many times when I've shut my phone off, deactivated all of my social media and cut everyone off. Pushed away the people that loved and love me, but things got better for me eventually granted ive still got problems and I struggle with ruts on the daily but I'm definitely better than I was.
