It doesn't seem like a lot of money. After paying for three(?) more cruise ships and dividing it among all of the parks over a 10 year period, it seems like we'll get a lemonade stand. I think that's why the stock went down. I think investors wanted to see more from the leadership.

Right now is not a good time to spend on low ROI projects as it don't help the company as a whole. I agree that new monorails are needed, I just don't think now is the time to spend that $. Everything Disney has done at Disneyland recently has been pretty successful. The retheme of the former Aladdin's Oasis spot to Tropical Hideaway, Galaxys Edge, the new Tiana's Palace makeover of the former restaurant space, the new ToonTown makeover, etc. Disneyland is as busy and profitable as ever. Many times demand exceeds capacity. Adding stuff like Frozen would push that demand into overdrive.

This is called "saying something to stay relevant". This is a clear sign that Disney is terrified of what Universal is doing. Listing how IPs have boosted interest in the Disney parks, while their neighbor is building an entirely new IP based theme park, that is not a coincidence. Disney is not worried at all. They are clearly show it by not doing anything out of the ordinary. Everything planned was something that was expected to happen at some point or is the usual new thing. They don't really need to worry because tbh a lot of the universal parks are quickly aging and it looks ugly. Islands of Adventure, their strongest park is definitely showing its age between toon lagoon, jurassic park and Dr. Seuss. Universal is forcing in the same IP in 3 different parks. Universal still has problems with mostly screen based rides. This new park will cool, does not really scare Disney. The IP isn't incredible for a new park, the How to Train Your Dragons land is coming out about 8 years too late, Universal Monsters is strong but doesn't appeal to kids, Nintendo is easily the flagship, and no one cares about Fantastic Beasts enough for a whole land, it was just a desperate attempt to shoehorn more Harry Potter. (The Universal Cash Cow). Universal doesn't have the IP to build much themselves, every big and major land they do is someone else's IP that they had to buy. That's exactly why Disney isn't as terrified as people think they should be.

$60 billion over 10 years, $6 billion a year, divided by 12 parks and and 50ish hotels and 7 cruise ships. And how much of that is refreshment of existing hotels and attractions. Nice to see them spending but depends on how smart that spending is. Are they going to build more Galactic Starcruiser busts or more Tokyo DisneySea home runs? What Josh should do is stop with all these "how about this IP" expansions to existing parks that are already crowed and tell Imagineering to clone DisneySea but even bigger and better in WDW. The cleanliness is down considerably, the price gouging has gotten ridiculous especially with adding Genie+ and the laughable restaurant reservation system. They can't seem to complete anything within a reasonable amount of time. Universal is completing an entire park plus 3 hotels in the time Disney took to complete 2 rides, one of which is an exact duplicate from another park. They keep saying their investing but I feel like we see more out of Six Flags than Disney 3. They keep canceling projects midway or they announce big ideas like the Main Street theater or Mary Poppins ride and never deliver so giving a dollar amount or even project announcement means very little until they break ground. And even then look at Epcot. 4. I’m starting to wonder if this 60 billion largely cast member salary idk Either way it’s a pessimistic outlook.

Brandon, excellent reporting. This whole thing is window dressing to show that the company is profitable and has strong real estate, IP, and experiences that create financial value. Some of that is directed at institutional investors, but more likely this is marketing in preparation for negotiating a sale. The question is when do they announce it? I'd guess it is less about timing as it is about stock price. The stock is hold steady in the $80-$90 range. I would suggest that once it drops below some threshold, that will put the company value at a point that a buyer will be announced. When that happens, don't be surprised if the legacy TV properties go to one buyer and the parks, studios, and Disney+ stay together with the other buyer. You might also see the resorts sold to a holding company and licensed to an operator similar to how Disney does deals in other countries.

I think the COVID layoffs at disney imagineering is causing the majority of the issues with getting projects started. It takes time to develop a plan from an idea to shovel ready. We saw that 1st hand with Pandora. The lay offs created a void in development. I think they're trying to flesh out the ideas so they can get to work. I also think that is why "reskins" of attractions are the ez go to in the mean time.

The problem with a reskin is that there's no growth. Without growth, you're not gaining capacity. More capacity=more money $$$$. The problem with magic kingdom is that it's the most visited park on the planet. If you look at the entire WDW resort, magic kingdom has more rides and attractions than all of the other parks combined. Disney should be focusing on the other parks and increasing capacity at those parks by increasing new lands and attractions. But they're not. But I can tell you that they don't have the money to do anything. The putrid state of the parks says all you need to know. Disney is dying and gasping for the last few breaths. I'm here to watch it die...the death it deserves.

@@thewalkingdad68 Again, you can't just say "hey let's expand AK" and the next day construction starts. It normally takes a few years of development to get a project ready to start construction. Hmmm does this old lady who grew up during Walt’s time when Disneyland opened believe what these people are saying? We will see but their going to have to convince me. Thank you Braedan for keeping us informed. As always you do a great job.

We can only hope, maybe they are going to do something this time. They have the ability to do so many great attractions, that’s what we’re all waiting for. Come on Disney pull the trigger already.

I 100%. I am sure they know what is going on with Epic Universe and know they need to invest more in the parks or lose customers

On our recent trip, we noticed how run-down and dirty a lot of the attractions were. (We visited all four parks at WDW.) Wasn't there a time when an entire crew would use night shift hours for repainting, etc.?

AGREED..... But will they REALLY? Smart money says that this is NECESSARY, to fend off Universal's new park that's opening in a couple years.

One issue I can see with the Disneyland expansion is that the land hasn't been reallocated for the type of construction Disney would like. The City of Anaheim hasn't been favorable to Disney over the last 5-7 years or so, which is why "Disneyland Forward" was created. It's Disney's "Look what we could still do even though Anaheim stopped our super-awesome pedestrian footbridge."

It’d take billions just to bring the division back to its previous quality standards. The sheer amount of damage due to deferred maintenance and poor construction is absurd. That said, they would be crazy not to push the Disneyland Forward initiative since the Florida crap will doubtless limit expansion potential there for quite some time.

What's the last opening of a feature, land, or ride that wasn't based on existing IP? It's true that imagineering created original stuff 20-30 years ago, but they don't do that anymore, so hard to say it sets them apart as they are slowly but surely making them one in the same by converting even that original stuff into other content IP (haunted mansion, as an example). I agree that it is best when they create original park stuff first, but those days are long gone.

It’s even worse in DLRP no new rides at the original park for 25 years. The only reason they are investing in the Studios is because it was truly terrible when it opened

The announcement is an attempt to boost the stock after D23. But we haven't had the park announcements to explain what the money could be spent on. You could also take inflation into account, so that based on current rates, something that costs a dollar today could cost about $1.40 in 10 years. $6 billion 10 years from now could be around $4.3 billion today. The actual amount could be closer to $50 billion in today's money.

They could invest 100 billion and it won't make any difference if what they are building is things nobody wants to see. Coco and incanto were good movies, but do they reaaaly need their own lands? They absolutely dropped the ball with galaxies edge, so i dont have hope they will get this right. IMO if they did anything with the parks it should be putting more money into maintenance like the monorail? How about cleaning up the place too. The zootopia section is the only thing I have seen that has actual potential.
