Is this the BEST OUTDOOR TACTICAL WATCH? | Garmin Instinct (full review) you decide!

My full and honest review on the Garmin Instinct watch, IS THIS THE BEST OUTDOOR WATCH? well I believe at this price, yes. Don't get me wrong, I love a g shock, I've owned them for over 17 years, probably longer. But the G Shocks niche is that fact its simple and tells the time perfectly. Anything else is extra.
Casio, missed a trick in making an affordable outdoor watch which has the ABC and full GPS tracking. Their protrek and master of G watches are very expensive and I believe the main reason is the fact that a G shock is around $100 usd for a basic one. So on this logic, if their ABC watches are $200-300usd, then a GPS enabled, bluetooth smart watch is going to be big bucks. I think Garmin did a great job and during my own real world testing, now over 9 months, this watch is highly regarded and has earn't its place within my system and outdoor kit.
I hope you find this review useful and i've upgraded sound and visual recording, so hopefully you can see and hear the difference.
This video is not sponsored but in any case my reviews are 100% honest and I'm happy if it helps you make better choices when buying outdoor kit.
If your a company and you want me to review something, please email me.
Enjoy the video.
At 5:39 I talk about widgets and how you can't reply to messages. This feature has changed with updates. So you can reply with preset messages of your making. controlled through the Garmin connect App.
It's really useful especially if you need to send something quick. Or sending a preset GPS waypoint to notify someone that you have reached a certain point.
A/V Specs;FIlmed on a Canon M50 with kit 15-45mm lens, Rode video mic. Lighting provided by Petzl Headtorches (of course) in lantern mode, Keylight was a Solarforce L2P with high cri led bulb and DIY diffuser setup.

As Charles said, I bought this watch 4 days ago as well, got it today. Your video sealed it for me. There were a few others I watched, but you covered most of what I was after, and a LOT more besides! I hike a lot alone, and although I have devices I use for safety when I'm off track on my own, I thought for immediate feedback the Garmin Instinct might be just what I'm after. I bought this watch, because I need it to replace an old Gramin etrex gps. The best feature to me is the precise gps, excellent and accurate barometer/altimeter, and heart rate. I used it for kayaking trips, clocking my speed skiing, daily air pressure changes and storm watch mode. The swim tracker did not work very well, but I am not too concern. It is super durable and I am not afraid to work with it or scratch it. The garmin connect app is very nice to see your tracks on the computer.

This is an excellent review and the watch, itself, is a terrific investment. However, there is a significant learning curve. I’d be interested in seeing a review of the GBD-H1000 - I’ve just sent mine back for a refund - so disappointed - such a rush job. Functionality is dreadful and only synced with Strava just before I decided to get rid of it. For £379 months expected so much more. It’s GPS was so slow to connect, pace timings out by 20 seconds, heart rate measurement is simply made up as it continues to show a measurement 10 minutes after you’ve taken it off! Oh and don’t get me started on notifications!! I’ve gone for a Garmin Instinct and love it!! Soooo much better than the G Shock.

Great review and well presented! I love the 'idea'of the Instinct (ie a rugged gshock like watch with tons more functionality) BUT, for me, it's just too small. I could get used to the screen which is similar in size to a gshock but at 45mm its 6mm smaller than the bulkier GShocks which I really like. I think also as a runner, the added performance metrics are helpful too so made the jump to the Fenix 6x but I'll be honest it's very hard to justify the huge jump in price!

Hi, have you (or anyone reading this comment) noticed any inaccuracies with the barometer? If so, were you able to fix it, and how?
@AlphaPews
@AlphaPews 3 года назад
Hi, the way it's calulated the best method is to calibrate it at a known altitude. E.g. using a trig point. Otherwise it's a useful guide. Most barometers have a level of inaccuracy so it's expected. But use the GPS, find the height and it won't be too far wrong. Like I say, it's a guide. Check on the Garmin FAQ for the specs of the barometer

Does anyone find the calories read as burned during exercise incorrect or off? I’ve had the garmin instinct for 2 days now, and the calories seem to be reading pretty low (compared to my previous Apple Watch). I’m an experienced weight lifter / bodybuilder, 180lbs around 15% BF. When I trained today, for 90 minutes, my calories burned read 490, when on Apple Watch, would read around 750-800 (which seems more accurate. HR was pretty consistent between 100-150. I’ve only used the strength training tracker so far. I never entered any reps or anything done, as I track that with my log book. I just want something really to track my heart rate, calories burned, and time. Maybe the Apple Watch could be wrong, but when I inputted these stats into a calorie burned calculation, given my stats, it said my estimated calories burned were pretty bang on to the Apple Watch. Anyways, I’ll leave this at that. Just wondering if anyone is experiencing anything similar, or if there’s certain settings I can adjust to get a more accurate reading (p.s I already have my stats entered into garmin connect) Thanks
@AlphaPews
@AlphaPews 2 года назад
Hi Phil, not been too reliant on the calories function but if you use it as a guide and watch you macros, you'll be more accurate. Maybe try and check your stride length as that might be too low for walking and running. So that could make it read low
