Yeah, "THE REAL END OF RIM BRAKES". Shimano has officially killed off a rim brake by selling Duraace and Ultegra groups with it... This guy is an Ozzie, he's just upside down.

My understanding is everything below 105 and XT will be phased out and Cues road and mtb will replace it so yes...all disc from here on in. Honestly i'm a bit of a retrogrouch but even I know hydraulic discs just work better for all their faults and general ugliness...RIP..😢

As another comment says - rim brakes are still available in current Ultegra and DA. Same with SRAM, they also offer rim brakes.

Pretty sad the industry is going this way. Rim is objectively better, yet disc gives manufacturers something new and flashy to market to existing (gullible) cyclists

Performance race road rim is dead until performance race road is killed by performance utility road. Road disk follows carbon wheels, which are more race oriented than practical. Rim brakes are far more practical, which is why the world is utterly full of of rim brakes, rim brake wheels, and rim brake frames, fortunately. Rim brakes have way more forgiving pad gap tolerances, and rim brakes apply braking forces to both wheel and frame in a far superior manner.

"Performance race road rim is dead" It is? I know a guy who runs a modern bike with current duraace rim brake groupset. Ultegra is also available with rim brakes. Same with SRAM both top groups have rim brake options.

I have grx on my gravel and magura on my moutain bike and live in a very hilly area. Yes, rims are easier to set up, but none ot the systems I use the most are demanding by any stretch of the imagination. Maintaining them in perfect condition adds a minute or two when I'm also maintaining other components. I've had a rim brake cable snap, but never a leaking hydraulic hose and on discs, I dare to descend with a lot more confidence. Discs are a must where I live and therefore a much more practical option.
