Welcome! Today we are unpacking, testing and reviewing the Sea To Summit Comfort Deluxe SI Self Inflating CAMPERVAN mattress. This is a special shape as you will see, making it a perfect Campervan fit.
This has given us the BEST sleeping experience yet in our VW California.This is not a sponsored video, we bought this with our own money. This is totally impartial.
Although this is based around it fitting in our VW California Ocean (T6.1), the mattress size is 201 x 115 cm (10cm thick when inflated), so you can check the size against your own camper or conversion too.
This is also the first Sea To Summit product we have ever purchased.

Interesting alternative to Duvalay. We have used inflatable mats and found them comfortable, with suitable adjustment of the air pressure. However, inflation and rolling up can be tiresome so decided on the Duvalay, 5cm gold, which can be quickly rolled out once the bed is down. Now used a couple of times and its reasonably comfortable. Not quite up to the home bed but something to look forward to on return.

Hi Guys just looking for an update as we are new cal ocean owners and need a new toper for upstairs, after seeing this vid this looks perfect. I am however finding it difficult to get one, any direction you or anyone can give us would be most welcome, (or is there a better one now) keep the vids coming you have helped us so much in getting the the van ready for our trips.

Perfect timing for this to come into my feed as ours arrived today from Germany and I’m planning on using up top! Have you completely ditched the small mattress that’s supplied for the roof or have you tried with it? Thanks for the content!

Thank you for the video. I am looking at a topper but will probably go for a foam one, easy to unfold and fold up again. What's that little pump like for inflating? I like the floor in your conservatory.
@CampervanTime

Thanks! The little pump is a little slow for inflating but I suppose that is only to be expected when it’s so small. We find we don’t tend to use it these days for inflating as we just let it self inflate and that seems to do the job ok.

If you have an austop roof you could always unzip it and then pop the mattress through. Great mattress, I use two single mats and have to blow them up, so this is a slightly easier.

It’s funny you know, it only occurred to me after filming that I could have opened the tailgate and fed it in downstairs, and then for the upper bed I could have unzipped the front of the canvas to slide it in there too! Oh well, this probably made better video !!

Interesting and informative video, thanks!. I as was trying to find one of these that fitted my upstairs bed back in 2019 and couldn’t get the right size. In the end I got a Kingside Dunelm mattress topper and did your single duvet cover trick. It’s not swearty memory foam, seems more like an overstuffed thin duvet. Taking it down you pull it towards you, fold over the first third, same again pull it through the hole and use it as a super comfy cover for the bench seat, takes less than a minute. It’s so comfortable that my actress wife stole it to use in digs with knackered beds when she is on tour as an actress ….

Thanks in advance - great video!
@CampervanTime
@CampervanTime 2 года назад
Well the mattress comes with a compression bag to keep it in, so I think what is being referred to is more about the valves themselves going hard if left in place for a long time rather than being regularly used. We treated ours with Vaseline to keep them supple and have had no problems at all.

I'm using it on the top bed, almost perfect, the only issue is that it doesn't breath well. So we usually keep only this one(deflated) on the roof, and then we add on top of it the factory down side bed topper. Done more than 80 nights with it, best solution I found so far. it usually takes me like 1min to deflate it, I open the two valves, fold it in two, roll it, sit on it and close the valves. For what I see on your video, it gets much compressed than in your video
@CampervanTime
@CampervanTime 2 года назад
Brilliant! When you fold it and deflate it, do you do that with it on the top bed or bring it down to deflate then put back up there?
@j4nch
@j4nch 2 года назад
@@CampervanTime Yes, I just stay on the top bed. The cumbersome part is to put the original comfort mattress back behind the seat. Also, I would recommend letting the mattress inflate a few hours before using and then i breath into it 4-5 times.
@california_clarky

Well, we've actually now sold our S2S and we use an Outdoor Revolution version now (see our video on that). We don't use any other mattress/topper upstairs with it either. If we use it downstairs then we do use it with our normal 'bed extension' topper that is optional on the Cali from the factory.

The only thing, I find it’s moving a lot on the above bed, because the mattress is a little too small : how do you solved that ? I was thinking of a long stripe of foam on both sides…other idea’s ? In any case, thank you for inspiring me to buy this mattress!
@CampervanTime
@CampervanTime 2 года назад
Good question. Well, we haven't done anything to mitigate that because we like the fact it is slightly smaller and therefore less prone to touching the canvas (or iso-top in our case) and then wicking water through it if we get rain in the night. However, foam would work just fine I'd think - or maybe some way of fixing it to the velcro so it doesn't move around perhaps? Difficult to put velcro on the mattress as it squishes down of course.

Good question. It is a little tricky, but certainly not impossible at all. I can manage it on my own (folding on the floor and rolling up a few times), and we even managed to get it back in the bag with the duvet cover on it too. The stuff sack cover is a tight fit to make sure it is as small as possible when it is in there. Some people also fold it in three semi-inflated and store it like that behind the bench seat downstairs instead of the VW one.

@@CampervanTime I'd like to have seen that in practice to be honest. We like to be able to fold the bed down and unfold the comfort mattress from inside, without the need to open the door, or venture out.
