The Duro is a dead set legend and the default quartz, dive style watch recommendation for less than $100USD. But it is not the only watch in that category. Can the Timex Allied Coastline wrest the crown from the MDV-106? Well, no. It is pretty good, and ifyou can find one cheaply then it can make an excellent quartz beater. And don't forget the INDOGLO!!! But the Duro is still the king. For now. Cheers, Jody

Absolutely, you are right. About the Duro handset, I really hate when minute/hour hands go further than the central pinion. It should end there (as those in Timex wre). I don't know if there is a term for both-sides-of-the pinion hands. I really appreciate if someone can educate me on this.

@@jonoedwards4195 I definitely think the case back is more interesting on the Duro because of the marlin. And if you legitimately do want to dive, the Duro is better. I like both. I find it interesting that you didn't mention the overall matte appearance of the Timex including the bezel insert vs. the Duro which has a polished case, a glossy dial and markers too and therefore has a completely different visual "feel" to it. I like variety and tend to use the Timex for bike riding and the Duro for the pool and hot tub but especially appreciate the matte look of the Timex every time I wear it because it is different from most other watches I have and gives it a more casual yet purposeful look (as opposed to a more jewelry-like appearance) which I enjoy.

Hi, Jody! Nice comparison video, both watches in my collection for a change! I'll start out saying I favor the Duro, not least because of the price point, along with the plusses you mentioned. On the Timex, I've found the skeletonized hands adequate in daylight, but they do seem to disappear a bit when using the Indiglo function...maybe that's just my eyes. The bezel has a noticeable bounce to it, doesn't feel as solid as I'd like, and the rotation has some play as well; possibly it was manufactured on a Monday! The strap, no argument that's it's a good one, although I have it on a leather strap at the moment. I hadn't thought about it before but I agree that it looks as much like a field watch as it does a diver, which is more than fine with me. Water resistance is not much of an issue, considering I'd never use it as a dive watch anyway. All in all, it's like a lightweight frying pan versus a cast-iron skillet...both are useful, but that cast-iron goes on forever. Thanks for another great video!

Recently, I find myself looking at Timex watches quite frequently. I have a number of new TImex watches; a couple of their solar Expedition watches, one Ranger and one Gallatin, a hand-wind Marlin and an automatic Marlin, and now I am considering one of the new Waterbury automatics. Not sure about this one; I would probably prefer the 41mm automatic Navi model, even though it is substantially more expensive.

What has happened to the 2021 Casio Duro? Been looking for one, but can only find one on flea bay, from a seller in Italy, for.about £150.

Hi, enjoying the videos, thanks! Does such an animal exist - a diver's style quartz analogue watch with a simple day of the month, that is smart i.e. doesn't need adjusting as it knows how many days in each month? Cheers Scott

Excelent Review like always Jody! still would go for the duro but, I also like timex brand! I would get this one too. You should review the Timex Gallatin solar watch. I think it's also a pretty watch with not bad of a line for a budget watch. Oh. And of course the indiglo that like you say, it's fantastic.

I bought this watch for 36€ (including shipment) on Amazon in a dark green with yellow hands. It wears pretty good on wrist due to the strap and has a good weight. I could not ignore the ticking as you mentioned as it is really not always loud and depends on the angle. Do you know why this is only in specific angles? Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany!

Love my duro! I have a rubber strap from strapsco that has white threads and it makes the duro look so good!

Great job as usual Jody. One thing that bothers me about Timex watches like this is the bouncy seconds hand. The Duro looks much more stable which I appreciate. I wonder what the seconds hands look like side by side in slow motion. Only YOU could pull that off. BTW, I bought the Timex Welton (WWI trench watch with faux brass patina). It's a great piece that I think you would enjoy reviewing.

Jody great video ! Do you or anyone else here have any idea when Timex stopped making watches in Connecticut ?

That's a fun comparison! I honestly can't say which of these two I prefer, but I'm tempted to say the Timex. The WR is moot for me since I wouldn't be diving with either of these and 100m is plenty for day to day or any situation I can think of where I would realistically fight myself both wet and wearing a watch.

One big plus for the Duro is that it has a stainless steel case where the Timex doesn’t. I wouldn’t expect the Timex to delaminate like the Easy Readers I wore in the 1990s did (razor sharp edges, anyone?), but the watch may not be as durable in the long run. I wore my Easy Readers daily for about 2 years before the chrome plating started to peel, but that just meant I never had to open a case to change the battery.

I am very impressed with Timex in recent years. When I was a kid, there was basically the iron man, the easy reader, and a few other models. Timex’s collaborations and push into more mid-range categories shows they’re proactive and looking to the future. Great review, my friend.

Timex has some really fun designs, awesome Indiglo, and a great price. But they're cheap, you can feel it after you've had a few watches. The hands move sloppily, they make a ton of noise. Printing and application is off just a hair. Timex is that brand that you just *want* to love but isn't easy.

I have an Expedition Scout 43 with a leather band. I like the simplicity of the dial, and the indiglo is always a welcome addition. The second had is sloppy and it’s loud! I can hear it in a quiet room sitting across over on a dresser. I got it in 2015 and it’s still running on the original battery. I have about twenty $100 or cheaper Casios, Timexes and G Shocks that I cycle through, so not using the indiglo very often extends battery life. I got my first Duro last week, put it on a nato strap and it’s all I’ve worn for the past week.

Mate could you do a review on the Heimdallr Trident Homage? I've heard a few good things about it but it's your review I trust most.

Wish it was a bit smaller but love the design. I even really like the handset. Something about orange hands get me going.

I’ve got a three quartz Timex watches and the tick is very noticeable particularly indoors in a quiet room. My Expedition Scout and Easy Reader are really noisy to the point of being distracting if you haven’t got some background noise but my Waterbury with sub second dial is normal and you can only hear it if you put it to your ear. I love the look of the Duro but I think it’s just a bit too big for me 😢
