The Malacca Straits is a far more bigger problem for US allies. South Korea, Japan, Taiwan are totally dependant on imported energy and trade, far more than China. China is much more likely to block the Straits and can do so without using ships or submarines. The Andamans and the Malacca Straits is within China A2AD range. Satellites these days can track anything on the surface.

yes it is one of china's weakest point. Singapore and US forces are just nearby, India could easily choke off that point to prevent chinese ships to bring in fuel from the middle east and for chinese ships to export their goods. BUT china with the help of thailand is set to build an alternative route. The new route will cut across thailand in the middle. Total cost is somewhere $20-30b which china may finance the construction. China is also building a new railway that connects china to myanmmar ports and therfore bypasses the malacca strait.
