I think the smartest thing about Threads is the name itself. They took the language we already use with twitter and co-opted it. When someone says "Did you see that thread about Joe Biden?" you can't tell if they mean Twitter or Threads itself. It doesn't make you feel ostracized for being on the new app! It's subtle but important!

I've been having a great time posting my art on Threads and meeting other artists. People are super supportive and engaging in a way that I unfortunately haven't felt on Instagram. On Insta, I often feel like I'm posting my art into an inscrutable void, barely getting any engagement apart from spam bots. Threads is a real breath of fresh air for me, because I've already been able to find a sense of community. I've also never had a twitter account, so I can't really compare Threads to the original thing it's trying to emulate. Twitter always seemed to mean and grouchy to me, so I never bothered trying to connect with people there.

From what I've heard Twitter has tended to be the best of the mainstream platforms for engagement with art despite it not really being an image platform, so I'm not too surprised threads also works well in that aspect. I also do not enjoy twitter (I help run my work's account) so I have also never bothered making an account there I just hide in my little corner of Tumblr lol.

What they should've done for threads was to keep it in the instagram app instead of making a whole new app from scratch. For every account you would see a bullet list next to that area where you've been tagged in photos and you would write your threads in that category. For the feed one side would be photos and the other side would be threads and you would only see it from people you follow. I hope this is making sense.
