Is Tom Dwan a Poker Scammer Or A Victim? 

After the Jungleman story I lost a LOT of respect for Dwan.

True story. I once loaned a total stranger $50 bucks in a grocery store and never expected to see him again. Years later, 5 years later to be exact I happened to see him at an event. He remembered me and handed me a $100.

Many poker players are scumbags, look at Howard Lederer, Annie Duke, Chris Ferguson, Rafe Furst, Russ Hamilton, Phil Hellmuth some of his sketchy business dealings, Men Nguyen and many more. Erick Lindgren didn’t pay his gambling debts and Brad Yukon Booth didn’t pay back his debts. What this should teach you don’t lend gamblers money or anyone you don’t trust. When it comes to money people get weird.

Some people smelled this on him years ago but couldn't say anything because of the hype. Then he "disappeared" and it was assumed he was making big bucks at high stakes games in Macau. Then suddenly, after being completely uninterested in social media he becomes interested in politics like he's being paid to do it. Then goes silent again. Now it's all finally coming out, bro is deep in debt, can't bluff all your chips away repeatedly and get away with it forever.

Not everyone is rich like Hellmuth or Ivey ... A lot of these pros who make millions are gamblers, sometimes losing a lot in private cashgames tables

Great poker players don't owe money to everyone. Stu Unger for all his talent, was a loser in life. Dwan was this great player. Only score in poker is cash. Doyle Brunson didn't play reckless. He worked his money. Because that is the score.

That said, if he owes even some of this, people should be very careful to get into anything financial with Tom. If someone is going to invest or whatever, it’s seems, well, ill-advised to do anything with so much questionable things swirling. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire? He was actually cheated out of almost a hundred million dollars playing against triads in private games. He couldn't pay back and he couldn't accuse them of cheating or there'd be consequences so they owned him for a while until he made them almost 3 times what he owed in other private games in macau against people you'd be surprised to hear about. That's when you started seeing him back in triton 1m cash game. He's still deeply in debt but now his winnings are mostly his to keep and pay back to other debtors but his margins are slim hence the ghosting and shit. He also can't talk about why he cant just pay everyone back because his life would be in danger. Dwan was a talented poker prodigy who kept pushing and pushing up the stakes until the highest he could find were playing with criminals. His ego made him believe he can just do what he had been doing to reach that point but there was no winning against them, no matter how good you are.

After living in this life for 20 yrs I left poker and all the people around it behind. These people are all degenerate gamblers ,most come from backgrounds like mine Dad owned a bar I hung out at the pool room down the street from 14 to 35 then moved into the poker rooms when casinos opened in 92. 1 thing is for sure these people are all less than ethical and most have little integrity. My life is so much better not being around poker players and pool players anymore
