Tbh most people don't ride in A modes with traction control off on it either and shortshift the shit out of it. My 2016 XSR900 has just full akra and 2wdw ECU flash and it absolutely rips from 0 to 100 mph.
I do love that Yamaha is offering cruise control on so many models. Actually many manufacturers are, and it's about time. A truly great addition that makes even bikes with compromised ergonomics a viable option for the occasional long road trip.
Seems weird to say the electronic safety features aren't useful for street use since that's the whole point of them. It's to stop people from crashing from stuff like panic locking the front wheel, over rotating in a wheelie, or wiping out from hitting a patch of gravel while braking. Sure you don't need them for 99.9% of normal riding, but they are there for the 0.1% times when you would otherwise crash without them. My abs has only kicked in once in many years of riding and it saved my ass that day.
I think he meant specifically the slide control which he said kicks in under very aggressive throttle in a turn like on the track. Some of those posh electronics have a home on flagship race / track bikes but aren't necessary in a naked / street bike. Some of them.
@@palicar Personally I think the slide control may be the most valuable electronic aid, street or track. ESPECIALLY for a less experienced rider who may grab a handful before they are straightening the bike back up. With so much power on tap and once on the side of the tire, things can happen quickly, especially on the street where the surface isn't swept like on a race track. I ride responsibly but pretty quickly on unpopulated back roads and gently get into activation of ABS, TC, slide, and wheelie control on a regular basis. One of the best things about the MT10, IMO, is that while it is very powerful, it isn't so powerful that you can't use 100% of what it can deliver, a lot of the time, on the street. The electronics providing some safety net aid in this usability. A R1 for comparison, produces beyond what can sanely be used on the street a lot of if not most of the time. One of the reasons I find a R1 is boring on the street.
@@leanit5756 I hear you. I love getting illegal on back roads too but I have the benefit of body position and leverage on a Hypermotard. It’s so easy to snap the wheels back under and rip it out of a turn. It’s a 2017 and has no slide control - just basic DTC and ABS - I try to ride fast without setting them off. I think with aids or without, testing the edges of our abilities is what it’s all about. Doing so responsibly like you say lets us make a lifestyle out of it. ✌️🤙
I wish it had the sound of the pre-Euro 5 emission model. The new one, despite what all the testers so far claim, has lost ALOT of the previous sound quantity and quality of the old one. The old one had the CP growl plus a chilling pipe organ like wail that the new has lost entirely. The mapping for the first several mm of throttle tube twist are WAY too sensitive in mode 1 and 2 to make them of any serious use. And personally, I would like the bars to be a little lower. Still a great bike. Sure miss the old pipe organ sound though. Makes me wish I hadn't sold my 2019.
@@JDeezle21 I actually crashed my ninja 250 unfortunately got a 2009 Yamaha fz6r after and put an delkevic exhaust since like this guy said Yamaha bike seems to be way more quiet than Kawasaki and Suzuki bikes I noticed. I plan to go back to Kawasaki since I don’t like the power band of Yamaha inline 4s (all the power is at the top)
I own a 22 MT10SP and I can barely hear the bike at all at speed. I get a glimpse of induction sound when I wind out it out past about 8k. It's honestly just too quiet. I have an Austin Racing exhaust on order to fix it.
Aside from its flat plane, I'd much rather take the less ghastly looking GSX-S1000. With a tune it's power is equal, but it's much more ergonomic and INCREDIBLY affordable, especially considering its power modes and OEM quick shifter. Not so huge on the transformers 3 style of the MT10, wish theyd make an XSR10 so i didn't have to close my eyes looking at them!
Brand new the gsx is £11,999. Yamaha is £13,500. Hardly an "INCREDIBLE" saving tbh. Ergos are subjective to the rider so that's pointless really, both naked uprights. Modes? 1,2,3 /a,b,std do just fine, so does its oem QS. Tune and it still beats the gsxer plus the incredible cp4 sound. Everything easily to be had sub £10k on a low mileage 2017-19 model too. It's just better.
Harley offers new fancy named paint jobs every year and expect more money. Most premium manufacturers offer stability control standard whereas most Harley’s it’s optional at its crazy MSRP. Stability control(RDRS) on on touring models. Glad standard on new edition bikes Pan America, Sportster S, 975. This MT 10 is a lot of bike for the MSRP
Another honest review Adam! Thanks! I'm old and probably old fashioned in many ways. I love everything about this bike but the look. It's just one opinion from an old man.
@@desert4seat Wow, I could not answer that. I have been riding since 1976, but have never ridden a bike anywhere near that far! But I think the helmet chosen would play a big factor there. Being a naked bike, your head is in the full wind. So I would think a helmet with good and quiet aero properties would be essential for not going insane on a ride of that length.
@@leanit5756 thanks for the reply! LOL yeah, I kinda live in the middle of no-where, so long rides are typical to get to cool places.. yet, I still want the ability to rip up canyons on the way. I see these bikes fitted with a full screen too so I imagine they can be comfortable enough with the right gear...
Cool bike until 4 of them show up at the same bike night. Yamaha needs to offer some other colors. MT series bikes are pretty popular and it’s not uncommon to see several, if not more, at the same event. I have an an FZ09 and it’s throttle has always been a little jumpy. Mine is all stock. It’s annoying and the top end is not that great. Feels like it’s rapped out at about 95mph, but for the most part it’s a great bike. Looking to upgrade, but I might be going for the 2022 FJ09 because I am old and I heard they got that throttle smoothed out. I am at sport touring age. I have to carry my creature comforts and my old lady around.
If Yamaha does continue the same basic platform for one more year? Almost certain it will get the same new tft and controls as on 2023 Tracer 9gt and almost certain price will jump yet again. I will be really upset though if I guy new MT-10 tomorrow and find out the 2024 will get the SPs suspension standard! Cause THAT along with a new TFT and switches would be WORTH another grand or two...but then what would they do to make the SP special? Brembo Stylemas? and full R1 hp?
The bike looks cool but looks so similar to "Bumblebee" from Transformers. I prefer the looks of the new GSX S1000 more but I would not cry to own either of them.
All expensive liter bikes are slowly but surely dying down in popularity, most people who like those bikes don't have the money to buy and maintain one and if they do they are going to compromise and buy a do it all bike that they can actually daily drive. Its not only the initial cost but the fuel costs , the insurance costs , private parking spot to avoid theft etc.
I find it all works well. I ride hard enough to get ABS, TC, Slide Control, and Wheelie Control doing their things, and I think they work great as long as you dial in the level of intervention to your liking. On the street they are great when you hit a spot of moss, sand, gravel, oil, damp paint, whatever.
Of course; color, much better suspension, and more electronics. Even here he says it's not a comfortable bike on rougher roads. So yes, SP would be worth it. Wish the SP included better headlights, then it would be a true winner 🏆
I don't think so. The stock suspension is quite good. I had a R1M and didn't think the electronic suspension really added anything on track. However it did allow for a softer ride on the street than the regular R1 (which I also had) would. But with the MT10, the suspension is fine for the street. It is fully adjustable, and unlike the standard R1, it softens up enough for comfortable street use IMO.
Best hyper naked? No. Street fighter v4, tuono v4, s1000R, are all better. But the mt10 is probably the best hyper naked around this price range though.
Spoiler: No. At least, not for me. It's a good bike, though. That said, most bikes are good these days. It's probably the best for some. That's one of the nice things about bikes. It absolutely isn't a numbers game (something that drives me crazy about bike reviews).
Are Yamahas really that good? I swear I see a Yamaha video form you guys every week. It makes it seem like you are sponsored. How about some different bikes?
Got to get down on the tank. Upright KTMs, including the Super Duke R, are like that too. It is a factor of the wind hitting the rider and lightening the front end. I was hitting 140 + on the track on my '19 with no problems.
So not worth upgrading to for anyone owning older existing generation MT-10 but STILL significantly more desirable all else being equal ? As in I just passed on a lvery ow milage private party 2021 selling for $12k (plus tax and maybe registration is due? idk) Instead made a deal on a 2023 for 2k more (no other fees besides tax and reg) but for $2k its brand new with warranty and both up and down quick shifter plus the other little perks and features not on the previous gen some of which like the imu may or may not ever help me out idk....I am also a bit concerned this will be THE last year of this basic platform of the venerable MT10....which if the rumors hold true and a whole new R1 platfoem will materialize for 2024.hence eventually a new MT-10 unless it gets renamed ...then again thats always a crap shoot with a new generation as once in a while such things backfir go backwards not forwards or else there is something really negative in a new platform not ironed out for a few model years .....not likely but just saying....and hey if a new (1100cc CP3 turbo R1) really is in the cards? and is the best thing since sliced pizza? Well I'll just have to buy it also....keep em both...oh wait i am already keeping my last two bikes...can only ride one at a time
The styling is sickening. The Japanese may LOVE Manga and Cartoons, but I am an American adult, and do not. The nose on the MT-10 is horribly bizarre. Will Yamaha cling desperately to that childish Transformer thing in the same way Suzuki has refused to alter the Hayabusa Hump over 25 years?
@@jordanjoestar8839 I AM shopping for a bike in this class, after owning & loving a modded Bandit 1200 for 20 years. The MT-10 would top my list, except for the putrid styling, (and ZERO internal storage space, not even for a toolkit).
Nifty ? The day I need to ride a nifty bike, I'll also wear my girlfriends stripper shoes. So basically, never. They are pretty cool though, they actually have live goldfish in the bottoms.
Love the sound, love the power, love the ergos...but the bike just looks "unfinished" in person. Horn is just tacked on, the frame doesn't look very nice, bunch of ugly fasteners, etc.
22 MT10 SP is on top. Can't beat the quality and reliability of the Japanese bikes. Aprilia is JUNK, having owned one and the gear box locked up at 600kms. The Ducati and KTM also have parts availability issues. I want to ride, not sit around waiting months for parts.
pretty accurate list.......Aprilia is an amazing bike.....they are all pretty reliable at this point and sometimes you just get a bad build (late friday aftrn)......or bad product, i would hands down buy the Aprilia......
@@kirkdunn1379 / Piaggio Group (AKA Aprilia) is a terrible company to deal with if you live in North America. If you join the Aprilia forums and Facebook groups, you quickly realize how unreliable Aprilia actually is. I had a brand new 2020 Tuono that had a gearbox fail at only 600kms on the ODO. Aprilia thought it was ok to fix my brand new bike with second hand parts from used bikes, because the supply chain is so poor in North America.
Yeah they were such a well rounded bike...except they weren't . They had a great motor for their time, and they look badass, but they had really sketchy handling and even worse fuel range that the MT10. IMO the MT10 is very much a current iteration (and vastly improved) of the old Max.
Not a real review. About the running lights comment. It's like you approach a person who lost an eye. And you decide to compliment their eyebrows; pathetic. Why not state the fact that they went too cheap, cut cost, and installed ugly, lame cockeyed headlights; same as the ones on Tracer 9 and the new Suzuki GSX-S1000GT.
Suzuki at least stacked them so they are in line and don't look idiotuc. Saw both here at work and the GSX is closer to a Super Duke in style, which at its low cost I quite liked.
Great bike, but not even Top3 in class. Especially the Italian V4s (Tuono and SFV4) are miles ahead. Arguably, the super-nakeds from Triumph, KTM and BMW are also better.
What are you on about?! Don't talk like a reporter... On paper the Italian v4s look and seem more appealing? Yes! But if you gave me a choice between them and the mt 10 sp. I'd go for the Yamaha all day.
@@christopherjongte865 I've (test-)ridden all of them around my favourite mountain passes and that's my personal verdict. The fact that most journalists seem to agree with my verdict just further proves my point.
@Miran Kajtna Super Duke is ok, nothing special. Stop the noise, you probably ride a Ninja 400 speaking on things you have no personal experience in. This is where you reply,”I own…” but we know the truth.
@@christopherjongte865 agreed. Especially if you take price into consideration. It’s easy to say a bike that costs much more is better. I mean, it better be!
