@yzolakitchi
@yzolakitchi Год назад
Yes, I loved her metaphor and agree with you. Perhaps it's more a case of the new owners living with the old owners in the interim. Blame for dodgy wiring get's thrown in the face of those who seemingly had no idea what they were doing. I don't see how the constant overlap of generations can't cause conflict in society. The battling cries of "You have it easy, these days" countered by, "Did you really not think discrimination was a bad thing?" Building those bridges, as Isabel says, is never gonna be complete, but awareness of past issues and moving forward to change things for the better, for everyone, has got to be the way to go. I try to remain a pragmatic optimist - but it's not always easy 🙂

Anyways, we know about this stuff and the Americans are well aware of how the cops behave as they would have been watching them on TV for almost four decades and also cheering them on. One of the best interviews I have seen in recent years. Ms. Wilkerson is an amazing author whose work in her two books I have read made a lifelong impact.

I love the metaphor, but working on old homes is totally a metaphor that will go over the heads of many young people who have never even had the chance to know an old house Great journalist and a solid interview, thank you for the information and the caste comparison, too true

Unless they grew up in an old house and watched as their parents bemoaned every system failure, and the constant hemorrhaging of cash into the Ole Money Pit homestead.

What an insightful, intelligent response to the willful ignorance of racism. A beautiful analogy of taking possession of an old house. A brilliant answer of how ignorance doesn't protect one from consequence. I'm in awe of her.

Caste is probably the best book I read this year. Eloquently written and heroically researched, she creates a genuine synthesis by tying together seemingly unrelated threads in powerful and insightful ways. A groundbreaking work by a gifted scholar.
