A returning Isha would also be interesting with interactions with the Ynnari, because Ynnead is a God still in the process of being born. And he is the God of Death. So the Goddess of Life helping in the birth of the God of Death to fight and defeat Slaanesh. Life and Death not as enemies but allies
as Nurglists put it, life and death are both sides of the natural cycle, Isha working together with Ynnead would be such fitting karma against Chaos. And the responses from both Slaanesh and Nurgle after losing their Eldar playthings would be amazing and terrifying to behold.
This was my thinking as well. Isha and Ynnead, not as enemies, but two sides of the same coin, united in their quest to free the Eldar from Chaos. The Eldar were never exactly strangers to dying and coming back to life, after all.
I like the idea but it might be a better idea if they weren’t completely on the same side. They can have a common enemy in chaos but I don’t think they should work together all the time. I’m still somewhat new to 40k but I think the reason the Ynari lord turned out the way it did is because if the Ynari actually succeeded then the Eldar would basically unite as a single faction. My understanding of why all the Eldar don’t embrace the Ynari is because Ynead is basically an unproven god, he has not awakened so it isn’t clear if they can actually defeat slaanesh. This is why I think the lord turned out the way it did, if Ynead awoke then the Eldar would have no reason not to follow them, all of the Eldar unite into one faction and become too powerful. Isha could remedy this problem, she would naturally be wary of this new god due to what happened with the last new god, him being her natural opposite, and requiring all her children to die for her to awaken. So the exodites and more orthodox craftworlds would follow Isha, while more open minded craftworlds and the dark Eldar sick of commorragh would join the Ynari. This would create a way for Ynead to awaken without Eldar automatically uniting under them and we can finally get out of the corner GW wrote themselves into.
Alarielle is a funny character because she's essentially Warhammer fantasy version of the Emperor, except she's like, literally a magical girl, to the point she's saved by a Prince
Lot of people propose Lemen saving her. I prefer the twist of he fights his way into the garden, but isn't able to save her, but before he is forced to retreat, she gives him a seed that will allow her to escape. He takes it on the condition she heals the emperor when it's done; which she also agrees. He then delivers the seed to some exodites telling them what's up, and that the wolves will be at their call to protect it. Give a little bit of a Vikings and the World Tree Yggdrasil vibe. Wolves for the most part go off on their own thing. While the eldar get to be proactive both protecting the tree that'll bring their god back, and finding things in the galaxy that'll cultivate it, and reduce their 10,000 year "hold the objective" challenge by a couple millennia.
I actually think Leman WILL save her, the latest scenes where rays of hope has been returning to the imperium shows that, Guilliman, Lion, every time Chaos wins there is an effect for the imperium that it gets more dire and someone returns one way or another to help.
Isha was a traditional roleplaying fantasy deity who had the misfortune of no clipping into the Warhammer franchise. Something similar happened when Zamasu no clipped video from a JRPG into a shonen anime
My headcanon is that Isha could potentially escape from Nurgle's garden herself if she really tried but she begrudgingly stays because Nurgle is the only protection she really has from Slaanesh.
The way I see it. Slaanesh would eat her like she ate Isha's family Tzeentch would betray her (likely by giving her over to Slaanesh for some crazy scheme he thought up) Khorne reminds Isha too much of Khaine (who tortured her for warp knows how long) and he would likely torture her like Khaine did. As far as Isha is concerned, Nurgle is the best of the worst. He won’t torture her like Khorne would, he won’t betray her like Tzeentch would, and he won’t eat her like Slaanesh would.
Mine is similar, I think Isha IS Nurgle, like how Khaine is Khorne. They're not, they're their own things, of course, but they're also the same thing, which is what led Khorne and Nurgle to "save" them both. They're made of the same emotional stuff, love, despair, fecundity, life, responsibility, etc. Nurgle is repulsive, because he's the main ocean of the emotion, but Isha is her own little lake of the stuff, specific to Eldar cognition, and so she eschews some of the truth of these emotions that Nurgle fully embodies. Essentially, Slaanesh's birth/ascendance/debut tore down the dams of Eldar thought that kept Isha defined from Nurgle. How this factors into the Eldar myths is that it pretty much doesn't because they're myths made up by the Eldar to metaphorically describe some weird stuff about the gods.
My own headcannon is the only real reason she's staying is because its where (for now) she can do the most for her children. It's said she influences the cures for all/most of nurgles plagues and diseases. Without her there is a very good chance Nurgle's influence and kill count would rise dramaticaly.

In my headcanon, AoS' "Alarielle" is a tripartite, composite deity. She's equal part elf Allarielle, Ariel and Isha's surviving essence - all merged into one being who bares that name. That makes the most sense imo.
Honestly, it makes sense. It's also perfectly GW "original material" considering the historical traditions of a three faced goddess. (No shade against you, just that GW property identity is a bunch of history/myth textbooks, some scissors and glue.)

I like Isha a lot and I love that you use Fauna to represent her. GW hates moving the setting almost as much as they loathe doing non space marine plotlines, but if the squats returned, there is hope they will finally realize they are sitting on an exodite shape pile of money. Elves with shuriken guns riding dinosaurs, come on! Also, you can't be happily married if your husband is dead.

I feel like if Isha were to come into 40k it would be fun to see her go the way of khaine, where she fragments and splits to escape nurgle, but instead of going to the craftworlds she ends up on various maiden worlds and/or crone worlds to become part of their "world spirits". It would give exodites a reason to run out into the galaxy to reassemble their god. Wouldn't exactly be great for Isha but hey at least some parts of her get to be with her children
It means more suffering for her, keeps the Eldar fairly weak, and doesn't require respecting a new asset for them. Yeah, I can see GW doing this if they do anything with her.
It would be an interesting twist if Nurgle's diseases were in some way building up her immune system and making her stronger for each one she overcomes.
I also think that now that she’s the only eldar god of nature left, she now has even greater authority over it. As Nurgle expands his domain by creating new horrific forms of life, Isha too becomes stronger because he is also expanding her domain.
I see a potential 40k plotline in the making. So basically, she would continue building up her power in secret and plan ways to defeat nurgle. But then realize that ifshe were to battle Nurgle and "somehow" win, she would be left defenceless against Slaanesh. That is where the revived Emperor comes in. Both would forge an alliance in secret, each vowing to help and protect the other if the other needed aid. The Emperor would strike at Nurgle first, sending forth his forces, both physical (guardsmen, sisters of battle, space marines, sisters of silence, custodes)and warp-made ( legions of the damned, imperial saints, etc.) into Nurgle's realm. Nurgle, remembering how the Emperor burned his garden WHILE HE WAS STILL IN A COMA, decides to stand up from his toilet throne and face Big E himself. A revived Emperor "might" defeat Nurgle alone, but not without getting Seriously injured in the process. But that is where Isha comes into the picture. While Nurgle is busy throwing hands with the Big E, Isha would then have the opportunity to break from her jar. And with Nurgle being preoccupied with the Emperor, Isha is free to reign havoc deep within Nurgle's own territory. Leaving Nurgle and his forces cornered between one pissed off god of humanity, and another EVEN MORE pissed off goddess of elves.
I made an alternate M42 lore for my friends to play around with centered around rescuing Isha and causing an eldar resurgence in the galaxy and making the story less about space marines for a few minutes. I’m really proud of it because I feel like I did justice to every faction
So I’d start with just retconning the ynnari because they accomplished nothing and went nowhere. Cut our losses and get something better. Instead have Guilliman resurrected by a priestess of Isha or a farseer or something who has foreseen the primarch having a role to play indirectly in the salvation of the Eldar. Then fast forward to when the Emperor has to save Guilliman from Mortarion and sets Nurgle’s garden on fire, drastically weakening the plague god and giving Cegorach the opportunity to swoop in and save Isha while Nurgle is busy stamping out fires. With their mother goddess returned, the Eldar start having a positive birth rate again and that’s not even 1/10th of what I’ve thought up for this scenario
To be fair Demeter has a lot of dark moments like the time she nearly killed everyone because Zeus gave their daughter to Hades or when she had a king cursed so he would eat himself.

if any primarch is going to save Isha, it should be Angron, because it would lead to most interesting story. Imagine Anrgon seeing the caged Isha and he recognizes her pain and frees her, and as thanks she heals him from the butchers nails or heals him enough that Angron can just rip them out. Free now of the nails he frees himself from Khorne and he joins the exodite as a free man in so many years
Problem is that the NAILS is part of Angron so he would have to be reborn without them being part of his soul or the purpose of the NAILS remade to be not focused on aggression and rage

Chaos Eldar might use Nurgle, Khorne, and Tzeentch as replacements for Isha, Khaine, and the laughing god respectively.

In the subsection 'A Pantheon Reborn' it tells the story of how the Masque of the Frozen Stars danced with such extraordinary beauty that the surrounding exodites wept, creating a purifying psychic monsoon that purged all trace of Nurgle's corruption. The entry then goes on to say that there are now rumors this may be the first step to freeing Isha herself and that there is a burgeoning hope of a new aeldari Pantheon of Cegorach, Ynnead, and a freed Isha.

(That said, though, there are mentions in the fluff of the High and Dark Elves having arcane war engines, they just weren't as portable as repeating bolt throwers and didn't make it to the army lists. While Luminarks and Hurricanums were basically the equivalent of skaven warp-lightning cannons, just powered by crystallised Light and Heavens magic respectively instead of crystallised Dark magic. So most of skanen tech in Fantasy was probably understandable by Elven and College wizards, but outside of the Dark Elves they'd also be the ones that understand how dangerous they are even to the user.)

i want this but for khaine. i imagine a timeline where khaine was never shattered by slaanesh and instead was claimed by khorne is his property. considering how similar the two gods are i don't think this would be a nurgle/isha controlling relationship because khorne and khaine are honestly just so similar they may as well be the same god. they both are angry war gods, they both hate slaanesh violently, and they both are total pricks. this thought gave me the idea that the two war gods come to a sort of agreement so the eldar can worship both khaine and khorne at the same time, and the same with humans being able to get some of khaine's power this would blur the lines between proper chaos god and eldar god and honestly would be super cool
Personally, I believe Isha spent most of the War in Heaven as a builder. Think about it. Necrons destroy a world or even an entire system, in comes Isha with her OP busted god powers and rebuilds the entire thing to suit the Eldar. Now you have your critical system back and it can be used once more. If we're going with the theory that the gods were only machines or weapons, I see Isha as the perfect Terraforming tool
considering his whole deal was about the hunt and wolves like taal or ulric was in fantasy, him becoming a champion of isha because of his love of the nature of the hunt. i think that would be the best way to bring back a primarch and isha because it gives the eldar more credit, and it gives a reason for russ to not always be around to solve every problem the imperium may have as he has to do isha's bidding and help the craftworlders as much as he helps the imperium. this would also allow for more eldar content as having a human be a champion of isha would allow the unoffical alliance the factions have to be a bit more heavy alliance building. we already see the imperium start to be less xenophobic with the tau and even the necrons at times so honestly geting a stronger eldar/imperium alliance would be awesome
I've said before that I could see 40k Eldar pledging themselves to Khorne or Tzeentch to spite Slaanesh, effectively turning themselves into knowing and willing pawns so long as it hurts She Who Thirrsts.. Also, I've heard that 40k Isha can occasionally whisper cures and treatments for Nurgle's "gifts" to the mortal realm. Edit: There is apparently another goddess in 40k now, but I am really not grooving on the Tau Empire having a Goddess. And even then, she's very young goddess. So Isha coming back to stir the galactic pot will still shake things up and still be distinct.
The T'au themselves do not have a Goddess. Their alien auxularies have a Goddess. She looks after the T'au because they are the ones who spread the greater good and by extension bring more followers to her and because she is made by the possitive emotions those aliens have for the greater good/t'au so by extension she is protective towards them. Pluss, just as she herself admitted, she isnt that strong as far a warp entities go (yet), I am not even sure is she can qualify as a deity. Her power is just more concentrated when in the Empire's territory, specifically inside the wormhole. Personally, I hope she manages to grow in power and she along with the surviving Eldar Gods (and maybe Big E and Orikan) manage to form something like a pantheon of Order just like in AOS.

Something I think you missed is that in Rise of the Ynnari, Lileath is the granddaughter of Morai-Heg and Daughter of Isha. Morai-Heg is only ever referred to as Khaine’s consort in older fantasy novels. This implies that Khaine is Isha’s Father.
Morai-Heg's in a bit of a weird position in that she was originally the Elfdar god of death, while also being the Crone part of a Crone-Mother-Maiden trinity with Isha and Lileath. Over time, however, she became marginalised in favour of concepts GW evidently found more interesting such is Ynnead and the overtly evil Ereth Khial. Would be hilarious (but probably would never happen), though, if Ynnead wakes up, the GW writers remember Morai-Heg, and pull a "Surprise, it was Morai-Heg coming back all along!" Which would also explain why Jain Zar seems to be possibly the Phoenix Lord most invested in Ynnead.

Thanks to the High Elves the bar is currently in Sithis, your average bandit can probably step over it without noticing. Though I do agree that orcs may be the only redeemable form of mer, if only because they’ve had their asses kicked enough times that they’ve gained some honour and humility.
7th edition lore also states that the Kroot of charoch humiliated the Sau’tekh dynasty by eating them after beating them so hard they left the planet they were fighting on (and then getting the flayer virus), so yes I agree such lore time periods are 100% canon Mr. Panc.
Sidenote, since that’s also Imotekh’s dynasty i’ve had hilarious mind image of one the strongest necron overlords losing to some random kroot shaper(s) for quite some time. Also also on the side note of 40k Isha being worshipped by exodites, I could see an agreement between Nurglite daemons and exodites on maiden worlds of the eldar and their cool stuff being protected in the sense that the daemons get to go nuts on any imperial or ork ships that to enter / invade the world (but not tyranids because nurgle hates tyranids). This would also mean the exodites would not have to call the harlequins every time the local imperials notice a maiden world (likely to Cegorach’s liking).

Instead of a primarch freeing Isha, Isha should break out herself, find a primarch just lost in the warp, and decide to keep him as a pet. Exodites are added to 40K, and Leman Russ is also there
Why not have essentially an Exodite warrior cult devoted to breaking into the Garden of Nurgle and saving Isha. Having come close but failed multiple times they find an unlikely ally in Leman Russ, tying in his quest for the tree of life. He'd play a reluctant support role lending his knowledge of fighting in the warp in exchange for a promise that Isha will try to heal the Emperor. Could make for some great tense storytelling with both sides hiding a knife behind their backs, just in case.

I feel more sorry for Isha then The Emperor in 40K, because The Emperor kind of had it coming for his decisions especially around his Sons whilst Isha just wanted to see her children again as any loving mother would do.
Y'know what I think would be a cool idea for the Craftworld Eldar? If the different subfactions for them had their own index/codex supplements, where they give their own detachments and such that can add to the main Elder army. That way you can have technically standalone Eldar Armies, and then GW can add more units and models to those armies so that they can become standalone armies. Like, imagine having an index each for the Exodites, Harlequins, and Corsairs. That would be awesome, and it would give the Eldar roughly equal rules support to the Space Marines lol
In a healthy universe, 40k would have 4 versions of what the Imperium has now. the 4 main factions would be Imperium, Chaos, Eldar, and Xenos. each faction would have their marines equivalent, subdivided into smaller subfactions. a guard equivalent which would generally play in a kind of hoard mode, and then an elite army, filling Harliquins and Custodies niche. for Eldar, Craftworlds are their Marines Dark Eldar and their abominations fill their hoard role Harliquins as a super elite army and exodites as a Knights equivalent. for the Chaos faction CSM as the Marines, duh. Lost and Damned and deamons play hoard, deamons and CSM variants fill their elite they already have Chaos Knights. Then Xenos would be basically be cool but singular factions, and maybe they get one related half faction each, Tau and their allies, Tyranids and Genestealers, Orks, half junkyard half squig, and whatever other minor thing you want to introduce. every editon gets two phases. release sees huge faction against huge faction, and a edition release sees major faction components fight minor faction.
all of this equivalent stuff is not only unfun in terms of balance, but also very clearly derivative at your conception. There would be no interest in playing across factions if there was a grand homogenization such as this. @@kazmark_gl8652

I would love to see the Exodites made big. I mean why do freaking clowns have more presentation than down-to-earth scifi elves which ride dragons and dinosaurs into battle, whose ancestors create a planet spanning network of interconnected souls (a world soul if you will) and who could have all awesome manner of bioengineered planimals and interesting critters. Whoever plaid age of wobsers planetfall cannot deny that an alien t rex with lasers on its head is a cool concept

I know it'd be better for the Eldar as a faction if she freed herself, but I think it'd be cool if Big E worked through Lion El Johnson to help the Eldar break Isha out of Nurgles Garden and a new Eldar character winds up becoming a 40k equivalent of Alarielle who ends up fighting back to back with the Lion as a sort of paladin and cleric duo for a brief period. Might just be me wanting more positive interactions between the Imperium and Eldar but I think it'd be really cool.
21:15 Actually, there is another. The Outsider is the last fully formed non-shattered C'tan whom also ate several other C'tan. Not only that, but in 3rd edition it was hinted at being the Tyranid hive mind. It could match Isha in terms of scale, and could even provide a cool rematch kind of campaign event.

Chrono from Live! At the Black Library said that the problem with the Ynnari is that they are an all-or-nothing conflict. There were only two options- either the Eldar win and Slaanesh dies, or the Eldar lose. Since there was no chance in the Warp that GW would get rid of Slaanesh, the Eldar had to lose, as that would upset the status quo too much. Isha, by contrast, could easily represent an opportunity to give the Eldar a win without having to remove an entire Chaos God or put the writers into such a non-win situation. Instead of having to choose between making the Eldar look like fools or nuking an entire faction, Isha's rescue and return could simply be a bright spot of hope and a future opportunity for the Eldar to survive.
It would be pretty cool if isha can get shattered in nurgles realm and then some pieces of her go to different exodite clans. Gives her new lore and allows the exodite to flow into the tabletop. Also would be cool if isha because of this split becomes a “man on the inside” against nurgle and can aid more in the fight against his diseases. In short please gw gimme my Dino elves with a life goddess.
I think there is a way to have both the Eldar and a Primarch rescue Isha. Have a major Eldar character or a group of Harlequins invade Nurgle realm like that leper Craftworld (yes, that is how I'm going to refer to them) and have them bump into Russ or the Lion of the way. The two help each other, Isha is freed, and everyone goes home happy.

This entire video, I was thinking "exodites, Exodites, EXODITES," Not only could they make them relevant in the narrative(/tabletop), but a nice prophecy or two could incorporate Isha and other gods... and maybe, just maybe... all those different prophecies could lead each Eldar faction to the same place- the final crone sword in the realm of Slaanesh. I like what you suggested at the end, about Isha as angry forest spirit. Imagine the conflicts we can play out between Leagues of Votann forces trying to colonize and mine a world inhabited by Exodites!
One of my favorite fanfictions of all time is a "what if" scenario, where during the Birth of Slaanesh and the Fall of the Aeldari, instead of getting captured by Nurgle, Isha throws herself out of the Warp and lands on Terra asking The Emperor for sanctuary.
I just looked up the Exodites and they look pretty cool, considering they are Space Elves riding Dinosaurs. Imagine Nurgle just tending to his garden only for a Space T. Rex with like two heads or whatever to come roaring in ridden by some wraith construct Eldar. If they added space dinosaurs as a faction, I honestly think that them and the Tau would be enough to convince me to get them. I even know what I would want to paint them. For the Exodites I would paint the dinosaurs like they are from the Chaos Effect toy line. While the Elves have colors based off those worn by InGen employees in the first 2 JP movies. Whereas for the Tau I would paint the mechs after the Mechs in Dragon’s Heaven (cause hand drawn mechs look cool and are appealing to the eyes.) and maybe paint the Tau soldiers with elite colors for them. Oh and I guess the Tau drones could easily be painted after sentinels, especially since the early storyboards version of the Halo 1 sentinels reminds me of the Tau Drones.
Not only did Nurgle infect the Far-seers via their immaterial soul, the disease turned their physical bodies to stone while their souls became more and more physical in the Garden. The disease also turned the spirit stones to rotting mulch, which is why they got trapped there completely. The trees also are cursed to bear fruit that turns into Nurglings once they ripen.
