The cold war ended in the 1990's, but weapons research and development never stopped in the west or Israel, Israel now has an anti air defence system called the Arrow, proven to be maybe even better than America's Patriot system, Iran has not a whole lot of ageing US F14 aircraft, some Ageing MIG 22's, a bunch of domestically produced drones and missiles that Israel can shoot down blindfolded, and a land army equipped with soviet era T72 tanks etc.., we have all seen how that equipment competes with western from the first gulf conflict; now in Ukraine we have footage of an T90 modern main battle tank being destroyed by an 15 year old Bradly infantry carrying vehicle with it's 20mm cannon. No wonder Iran is backing down.
