Issues with St Augustine Grass | St Johns County Home Pro Tip

Moving To St Johns County Florida With Josh Rogers

What is the issue with the grass in St. Johns County? The grass commonly found there is called St. Augustine grass, which is known for being coarse, thick and uncomfortable. It doesn't resemble the soft, lush grass typically found in the northern regions. Many people in the area find it unsuitable for walking barefoot or spending time on the grass. Additionally, St. Augustine grass requires a significant amount of maintenance including frequent fertilizer and water applications. It's likely that builders use this type of grass because it can withstand the hot summers in the region. As a recommendation, it may be more enjoyable to extend your paved patio area, as it provides a more comfortable space for walking, hanging out, and relaxation compared to St. Augustine grass.

Growing up in the south, I spent hours laying, playing, cutting, planting and edging St Augustine grass. BTW, this is a great way to sell your clients home - complaining about the nasty grass that comes with the home. Good job dude.

St Augustine grass is a decorative grass it’s not meant for high traffic. It’s beautiful has a lush thick look to it, add some liquid iron and you’ll get a gorgeous deep green your neighbors will be jealous.

Then go back up North! I've had st Augustine grass for 50yrs and it's like carpet, never had to fertilize it or do anything to it. Try not using so many chemicals on it! 😮

"I don't actually know anything about grass, and really just want a cool way to demonstrate that I live in one of the most posh, uppity, wealthy counties in the state by showing you the pavers I put in my backyard." There, I fixed the script.

Buffalo grass does well in the south. Only needs half the water of St. Augustine. Drought tolerant but requires full sun.

I have Tahoma 31 Bermuda in the backyard and it’s like walking on carpet. Does require frequent mowing for it to stay that way though since it grows laterally so I’m out there every 3 days lol

Bermuda is the best grass to have in the south. Also it’s one of the most common grass for gold courses. When it mowed short, less that 1 inch it looks like fairway ❤

As someone who's lived all over the south, St Augustine grass is the best grass. Of course northerners wouldn't like it. They complain about everything.

We use st augustine grass in Florida because of the mount of water it absorbs. It helps control flooding because of the amount of rain we get.
@marilynd677
@marilynd677 Год назад
Good vid. Most of my new neighbors fill in the holes too with sand because builders are not amending the soil . Water takes up to 48 hrs to drain in the clay soil. Buyer beware with new construction

It’s actually very easy maintenance and grows like a weed. Cool season grass is much more difficult to maintain throughout the year.

It has become the go-to around here (St. Augustine, FL) because it is very heat resistant, absorbs a lot of water (less flooding after super heavy rains), and because the sod is relatively easy to cut and transport. Personally, I think we REALLY need to revert back to native species for all of our landscaping around here. All of the “acceptable” plants that are encouraged has decimated indigenous bird and insect species to make this entire region almost unrecognizable from what we had 35-40 years ago.

St Augustine is the most beautiful green thicc baby girl in the world you take all that nonsense back! I love st Augustine! You cant cut it at 1 inch and expect it to be plush and healthy at 3.25-5 inch cut. At 3.5-5 it hides ground imperfections and makes it need less water. The fertilizer thing also is bull. You can have a nice lawn with 8 lbs of nitrogen a year. Plus florida has a fertilizer ban in the summer. Bermuda is far more taxing then st Augustine.

Zoyzia is a much better full sun grass for Florida. St Augustine can act like a spoiled child that becomes absolutely Addicted to Chemicals and Irrigation, But will Do great on its own when it has light moving shade and gets just a sip of water only when it wilts.
