This episode we take the truck for a drive on the freeway, around town and on a rough dirt track to see how it performs. First up we will go for a drive on the highway and see if the truck can sit on 100kmh and how long it takes to get there. While on the highway we will find a steep incline and see how the truck performs, how much speed is lost and how many gear changes are required.
We will then turn off the freeway on to a second grade main road with a 90kmh speed limit with plenty of bends and potholes, really testing the trucks performance on the blacktop.
Then comes the fun part , putting the truck through it's paces on rough dirt roads, here we will get to see how well the truck goes, seeing if the parabolic springs combined with the suspension seat makes a difference.
It is a fairly lengthy video, however flick through to the parts that interest you or flick through to the end and catch the results.

Awesome review mate! Perfect.

Back in the middish 2000s, I drove a 6 tonne Isuzu generic freight truck. We had two and one would happily roll along at 120kmh once wound up. This was out on the Capricorn Highway between Rockhampton and Emerald. I had it up to 145 once. Anyway, enough of my past rogue history. I'm a tad jealous mate. I'd happily drive one of these all day.

Thanks for your superb videos of the truck build and your use of the truck, on and off road. I think you have nailed it, in terms of an overland truck to tow a large caravan and to explore and live in, as required. I have had similar ideas and it’s great to see the finished product and the quality of the build from the warrior team. Love it! I am looking forward to building mine and towing my van that’s also just a bit under 3500 kg, like yours. Thanks and safe travels on your journeys Robert

Mate, love the NPS - bought our new LC200 Nov 2020 and already over the limitations and under engineering of it. Looking at getting the NPS for exactly the same reason as you and to have no issues towing a big van full time and be able to explore this great land!

We also have a 200 series and a troopy, however we are also over weight when loaded up for travel. we love our truck and we have a spare ton up our sleeve when fully loaded with the van on.👍

@TheTripleDubya Год назад
I wouldn’t call the 200 under engineered, over cautiously plated perhaps but not under engineered, they are awesome and more than enough when used as a wagon and not as a loaded to the hilt tow pig. As I’ve always said, most light vehicles are allowed to tow way to much, hence the idea that they’re not good enough. These trucks or American trucks are the go for anything over 2.5 to 3 tonne.

You didn't mention whether or not you were in 4WD when on the dirt sections? In general, 4WD isn't necessary when on stuff like that, however, our NPS has a definite better feel when the front axle is employed; especially with the torque bias front differential, makes the truck rock steady and places less strain on everything. You would appreciate a centralised tyre inflation system (CTIS) just look at a bit of dirt and you can drop air as you drive, further down for really rough stuff, then air up again when back on smoother surfaces, no need to ever stop. After fitting a CTIS to our NPS, the transformation has been unbelievable.

Hey Allan, what CYIS did you use. Obviously ARB twin compressor would not cope - hardly copes with my LC200 pumping 2 tyres from 10psi to 40psi. JedAir is something I have looked at!

@jnadownunder Год назад
Hi Allan, some valid points, we were in 2WD during this video. We did consider CTIS however opted not to for the amount of time they would be used. We run pre set tyre deflaters to air down and have two twin compressors for reinflation which can be viewed on our compressor video. What system are you running for reference should we require them in the future. Cheers Jonno

@@tonyf7997 We run two twin compressors linked together through a tank with great results. we have a video on this on the channel. Jet air is a great compressor system we just don't have the power to run one 🙁

The CTIS is Australian, Air CTI located in rural Victoria. Their bread and butter was the forestry industry, but they have broadened it a fair bit, almost anyone with a truck needing to traverse iffy terrain is their customer. Our system is powered by single 24V ARB twin compressor, as we had that compressor in it's original portable suitcase; we used it. Air CTI did the complete job and then some. They deconstructed the ARB compressor, mounting it inside on a wall in our big box on the tray and connected their CTIS up and since the get go, it's been marvelous. The ARB tank is vertically mounted outside, which allows me to drain the tank and remove the water. From the air tank, there is a water filter, after the water filter the air is split to two isolators, one for each axle. We are running the smaller ATW 17" wheels, with 340mm wide 37" tyres, yep they take a fair amount of air. Our axles are isolated, meaning our steer axle and drive axle run independently from each other. I know going from 190 kPa front and rear axles for sand dune territory, to 250 kPa on the steer and 280 kPa on the drive axles, takes somewhere around 5-6 minutes; I think. I say I think because we don't stop, the passenger simply presses two buttons and as the tyres air up we progressively drive faster. As we approach bitumen we up the axles to highway pressures, which is probably around the same time difference. I wondered whether the ARB twin compressor would cope, the Air CTI people said it shouldn't be a problem, especially as I have the compressor inside a box keeping the air intake clean, so to speak. It hasn't been a problem since it was installed, which was the first week in January this year. If the ARB compressor hadn't been suitable, or it dies prematurely, then I would seriously consider adding a belt driven compressor, or possibly an electric driven compressor; both of which appear to come from the air conditioning industry. How often do we use the CTIS, pretty much every time we venture out. Once onto bouncy rural roads where you can't keep speed up, we drop the air to our bumpy road pressure and the effect is immediate. The harshness coming through the steering wheel and feet on the floor, is dissipated entirely; well, almost entirely. We had a trip earlier this year where we were traversing a long rural road taking half a day, three sections were very much like those depicted in the first part of the dirt in the above video. Each time we hit one of those 30km (approx) sections, we dropped the air and in around 1 minute we were in the comfort zone. Upon exiting onto bumpy bitumen, we just upped the air and within a few minutes we were on song. I watched a you tube video of a Toyota Prado fitted with the same system, in it he mentioned that he used his Air CTIS every time he was out and about; obviously not around town. I wondered about the usage we would have and funnily enough I have to agree with him, we use our CTIS every time we head out. We are running around 5.9 tonnes fully loaded, using up fuel and water on a trip we drop almost 500kg. The truck certainly feels lighter and faster responsiveness, when this happens, we trim the pressures to get back to the same feeling. Once we add fuel and water, which has been a 480kg weighed difference, we once again trim the truck.

@jnadownunder, thanks again for the reply. Still learning. Only got the truck from ATW three weeks ago and had a full size canopy fitted a few days ago. We are also towing a 4000kg caravan and after the canopy was fitted I thought I left the handbrake on the caravan on. That's how bad the trucks performance was.

around 19L to the 100 truck only at 6.5 ton and any where from 22 to 24 L per 100km towing (10.5 ton GCM) pending headwinds etc.

Yes we do, we had them hard when we were doing the testing so we could feel the ride of the suspension. we also had the tyre pressure at full pressure. It makes a huge difference again with the seats set correctly with lowered pressures.
