I found this very helpful, I have now replaced my USB board and my phone is charging perfectly. Only thing i did differently was i didnt unhook the thin blue wire from the motherboard on the right hand side. Easy to follow, patience is the key. Also make sure you click all the phone pieces back in. Thanks again

Thank you for the tutorial! We had a power surge which fried my charging port, I had it fixed in under five minutes. Not all S4's are made alike - make sure you're buying the correct build model of USB port (i545, ec.)

Thanks so much for posting this video! Went looking for fixes when my husband's phone stopped charging (Gatorade + smartphone = bad combo). After watching this video I thought it looked like something I could do, so I ordered the part. What a money saver it ended up being! Success under $7 and less than 15 minutes. Phone is now charging, microphone works and it has a strong signal, so it looks like this did the trick- great step by step video for this repair!

Simple as, just paused at each step to make extra certain I wasn't ripping out something crucial and while taking my time, I still got it done in 10-15 minutes. My USB port was completely fried and this saved my phone, thanks heaps!

Just finished doing this and it really is a 10 minute job. Circuit board was stuck down so didn't come out as easily as the video, but going gently it eventually popped out. Got new board and tools from Wit Rigs for about $20, took about a week to get to U.S. Feel like a genius.

What can I say. I tried to have my Samsung Galaxy S4 repaired under warranty. It would not charge, would not switch on and just vibrated when I plugged it in. Samsung said it was because the charger port was corroded and they would not fix it under warranty. So I bought the new parts for £2.76 on Amazon, bought a 17-piece phone tool kit (suitable for all phones) for £3.00 on Amazon and followed this tutorial. It really is simple and works. Now I don't have to buy a new phone, which I'm glad about because I really like my current one. Thank you.

One thing I will suggest, is make sure you take the SD card and Sim card out of the slots before doing this, I didn't and when I put the backing plate back on, I had my SD card trapped under the back! I had to unscrew the screws and do it all over, no biggie though, my mistake! :)

Thanks a bunch. Dropped my S4 in the tub the other night so pretty sure my charging port is toast. I put the S4 in a container full of rice and it started working fine again. The port is on its way and with the help of this video I took it all apart in minutes.

If you have the R970 model you have an extra wire on the left side underneath the long strip of the USB Board. It has a connecter on the bottom left of the Board that also needs to be disconnected before removing the Board.

If you are technically inclined, and have good eyes and a steady hand, this works beautifully. I've been living with the nuisance of the 'sometimes it charges / sometimes it doesn't' Galaxy 4 for about 6 months (it was soaked on Kali River Rapids in DisneyWorld... my dumb move). Stuck on a contract for another 18 months, I thought I just had to grin and bear it. I ordered the USB assembly and carefully followed the instructions, and my phone is good as new. A word of caution, there are subtle differences for a VZW Galaxy S4... so pay attention to detail. There was another wire connector on the bottom left of the USB assembly that needed to be unconnected and reconnected. The replacement USB assembly had the part, but the video doesn't show this minor step.

Hot tip for getting the USB port bracket off: notice that there is a little raised portion on the left and right sides for getting a pry tool underneath. It's much better than trying to grip it and pull it off.

Thanks. Bought the part with the tools for $9 on Amazon. Be aware though that there seems to be two different s4 models. The one in this video was slightly different than the one in my phone. So I had to return it and get the other one. They are only $5. Once I had the right it took about 7 minutes to fix. Video was very helpful.

WOO!! this video just saved me $68!!! The tutorial was super useful and easy to follow (provided you have some really small screwdrivers and tweezers) and buying the components on amazon was MUCH cheaper than the quote for USB port repairs from some phone repair places. I would reccomend to anyone trying this for themselves to double-check the model of their phone before ordering the USB board (mine was i545), and to NOT unattatch the other end of the antenna (the blue wire in this video) just to reduce the chance of being unable to replace it properly. My profuse thanks, Wit Rigs!

I still have a Samsung s4 going strong! I was a little nervous to do this at first, but just follow step by step in the video it's SUPER easy! My phone wasn't holding a charge, and I just plugged it in & it looks like it is now!! I hope it is all fixed for now, but for real I probably should just get a new phone X'D I guess I like to take care of what I have.

OMG I did it! It all went pretty simply. I was actually able to use my finger nails to pull up all the stuff they use the plastic thing on. If you are going to try this bear in mind there are 5 or 6 different versions of the Galaxy S4 and they all use different ones of these things so be careful what you buy to put in it. Also my S4 was laid out different than the one in this video but basically it's the same. Mine actually had 2 additional tinier screws holding down the USB port bracket.

Great tutorial. I managed to replace the charging port and clean the inside of the phone using this video and now it can charge again. One point of improvement though: The video is too fast, blurry, and not very clear on how to separate the front glass from from the back casing. Because there are two plastic edges, one thin one (2 mm) directly connected to the glass on the front, and the thicker plastic outer rim next (5 mm) to it connected to the back casing of the phone. Due to the blurryness of the video I tried to seperate the thin plastic edge from the front glass (which are stuck together), which damaged/cracked it since these are actually stuck together. Instead one has to separate this edge from the other thicker plastic rim, which I found out after watching a different video. Although the cracking of the edge around the screen is only minor damage, it could have been avoided. Other than that, good video.

Jan. 2018 -- I just repaired my S4 for less than $10 (parts & tools from Amazon). Note: @1:00, not necessary to remove speaker assy. It will come off with midframe all as one piece. @1:55 no need to unplug and remove blue cable. Leave in place and unplug only at the USB end. After replacement, I realized the old USB port problem was that it had lint and dust packed into it, so cable could not plug in as far as it should. You carry the phone around in your pocket all day, and every night plug in the USB cable to charge it. Even a tiny, tiny, microscopic bit of dust or lint gets packed into the port every day, compressed tightly and packed in by pushing in the USB connector. You might be able to avoid replacement by cleaning out the port with a toothpick. Remove your battery before messing with it though. Cable should plug in and click. My cable was very loose, would not insert very far, and would almost fall out of the phone. No regrets though -- repair went smoothly.

One of the commentors mentioned a difference with the R970 model, which is what I have. I left mine out in the rain and it stopped charging, but would charge when plugged into PC USB port or car charger. I opened it after watching your video to see if the board was different. (and it is...due to model I guess). Anyhow, I noticed some "crud" on some of the pins on the back of the connector. I brushed that off and it works now. The stuff almost looks like battery leakage, but it couldn't be that. I assume it was there and the water from the rain soaked into it. Anyhow, strange, but thanks for your video. I wouldn't have thought to open it up.

Thanks for this tutorial. My phone was showing a gray battery symbol and wasn't charging when plugged in. I tried cleaning and bending the contacts on my phone's usb plug but that didn't work. I just got the new circuit board from Amazon today ($12 total) and installed it about an hour ago. My phone is working perfectly now. Again, thanks.

It stops the board from moving around inside the phone's casing, id suggest putting it on if you can
