(CC) (HD) 2019 VIDEO UPDATE HERE • ”Simple fix" for phone... which covers ALL 3 major charge ports (Micro USB, Apple Lightning, and USB Type-C)!
This video you're watching is a recent charge port cleaning method including a demonstration. This works with Android, ANYTHING mini/micro USB, Apple + Apple "lightening" charge port, USB 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and standard USB - C version 3.1. Did your cell phone suddenly stop charging? Is your charge cord loose, or falling out as well? There's a VERY COMMON CAUSE for this. This is an update for the video I made in 2012.
Please pay attention to my comments at 1:22, AND from 3:10 to 3:50! They are VERY IMPORTANT to know!
Pay close attention to ALL the warnings in this video, as damage "will" occur if a person applies "excessive pressure or force" to the small "pin row/tab" in the charging port of their device! Do at your own risk! If you have ANY doubts in your ability to perform this procedure, take your device to a qualified person who can safely repair it.
This problem can potentially affect EVERYONE who carries their phone or device in their pocket, purse, coveralls, work clothes, and more!.
Symptoms include,
• your phone or device has "stopped charging",
• it charges only when you push or wiggle the charge plug in your phone/device,
• it charges intermittently, or charges VERY slowly,
• your charge cord does not seem to "lock-in",
• the charge cord plug keeps falling out of your phone/device.
(This video "could" apply to ANY DEVICE that uses the "micro-USB style" charging port) IPhone/IPod charge ports are also vulnerable too.
WARNING!!!!!... NEVER EVER force, pry, or twist any object or tool in any way in the charging port of your device! PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to my warnings here, and in this video, as damage WILL result if you do not!
BTW, if your phone/device has a VERY SLOW charge, I have an information video I put up which you might find helpful.
Here is the link for that one;- • "Slow charging" cell p...

3 year old phone.... LEGACY DEVICE. hehe.
@jmarddm1737
@jmarddm1737 7 лет назад
that is such a shitty attitude to have. corporations FEED off those attitudes. The device and the code isn't what's obsolete after 3 years its the branding of the model, and people for some reason believe that they need to upgrade on a yearly basis... Disgusting capitalism. As a writer of code and Computer Science major I can tell you devices usually don't become truly legacy until about a full decade unless technology itself truly surpases it in the case of the iPhone vs the black berry. Just because the new iPhone comes out is it really a new piece of tech or just a fucking software mod in a smaller hunk of plastic?

Thank you. You just saved me $400. I've had my phone for 5 years and love it! I still have my original battery that holds an amazing charge - 2 days with light use and a full day with heavy use. My apps, widgets, and programs sync me to home devices and my work device, and I've never had an issue with this phone. Lately, the charger kept slipping out, or when charging - it kept blinking in and out of charge mode. One day it took me an hour to jiggle the cable to just the right position in the port to get a charge. Frustrated and realizing my time was more valuable that $400 for a new phone, I begin the tedious search for another phone when I decided why not try to repair my phone myself. I had nothing to lose if I damaged it as it was already a goner in my opinion. I ran across your 3 videos on cleaning charging ports and another video specifying how to use alcohol, too. Even though I religiously use an Otterbox to protect my phone and the port has always been protected, 5 years of use has allowed some dust to sneak in and accumulate. I didn't see any dust/lint with my magnifying glass, but once I cleaned the port with alcohol and used your cleaning method, I was shocked at the quantity of small dust particles that had accumulated and were now falling out with each gentle scrape. I also gently scraped the prongs to remove any kind of build up or corrosion. Ready to test my fate, I plugged in the charger expecting, well - nothing to happen, and to my delighted surprise - I heard that beautiful chirp and saw the blue light signifying it was CHARGING! Again, thank you. *subbed*

I had a bit of fuzz, but it still feels loose. Afraid to scrape too hard. What videos uses the alcohol specifically? I think the removal of fuzz helped a little, but still not brand new or even gently/moderately used status yet.

Thank you so so much! I'm having OnePlus 5 and the charging cable got way too loose! I was afraid that I might have to get the charging port changed. Then, I saw this video and cleaned it using a very tiny safety pin. I cleaned it with extreme precautions and moved my hand very firmly and gently. It took about half an hour for me to get all the debris out of the port. With fingers crossed, I plugged the dash cable into the phone's charging port and Voila! It worked!! It immediately made that beep (dash charging) and I got so damn happy after all this hardwork. I just couldn't resist myself from thanking you for this amazing video! Lots of love from India! ♥️ P. S. You just saved me from spending Rs. 1200 ($20). Thank you so much.

Tried this on my Samsung Galaxy S7, as the charging cable wouldn't correctly locate. Got some debris out of the socket but the cable was still not engaging. Looking at it under my wife's sewing lamp/magnifier I could see a wodge of pocket lint in front of the pins. The plastic was too flexy to get hold of it, so after powering down my phone, I loosened it with a needle and then cleared it out with the plastic hook. And now it charges! Great tip!

Plastic dentil pick on the dollar store 90 degree dentil Foss holders is safer. With your wife's nail sander you can shape the pick to get at that last nasty piece of lint. Canned air with that tube attachment helps too. Remember some of those leads are hot, so you are lucky nothing shorted with the needle.

Thank you!!! After mining the port for an incredible amount of debris, the charging plug would still pop out on my Samsung Galaxy S4. I modified the tip of the cleaner with a razor to obtain the needle point configuration in your original demo. This cleaned out twice what I pulled out. The charging plug snapped in like brand new. I made the length of the tool a bit longer, crimped a 90 degree tab about the width of the phone, and slid the tool - with the tab covering the charge port- between the back protective cover and the phone. Keeps the fuzz out and makes a quickly available cleaner.

Fixed! Thanks so much for posting this video I've been having to use a wireless charging pad, which did not help in the car. Two repair shops quoted $175 and $200 to replace the charging port. This was so simple and not so obvious a fix. I used a soft bristle tooth brush after digging out the big chunks with the plastic tool you show in the video. Amazing how much debris I pulled out. In retrospect I should have made a video of my experience.

I'd been staring at the 4 year accumulation of pocket lint clogging the USB jack of my Nexus 5 for a while now, wondering how I was going to get it out without damaging the jack. Having the wireless charger made the problem somewhat less acute, but not being able to use the USB caused problems on long road trips. I just spent a good 30 minutes clearing it out after making a tool like the one shown in your video, and now it's 100% again. Thanks so much for sharing your technique.

@mysimplefix 8 лет назад
Well, you must keep in mind that the device itself is only one of 3 things that could be causing your charging problem.(device, cable, charge adapter). I am aware that there are some tablets that are known to have charging circuitry issues. BUT, if your charge port in your device is clean, then next, I would try using another charge cable that will fit your device. It must be a good quality one, as cheap ones will not work.

This is excellent! I’m a retired EE and was having trouble with my cell phone charging. I suspected dirty contacts. I cleaned the contacts using 91% ISOPROPYL alcohol (I find to be one of the safest electrical cleaners to use around plastics) and this seemed to help a little. But finally one day, I couldn’t get cell to charge at all. I googled it and ran across your videos. DUHHH… I think you hit the nail on the head! I used some blister pack plastic and made the tool very similar to yours. This worked well. However, when I set my tool down on my clear plastic table cloth cover, I couldn’t find it, (eyes aren’t what they used to be). I put some magic marker on “handle” end and that made it easier to find (piece of masking tape might be better). BTW, to clean contacts with 91% ISOPROPYL alcohol (again, other solvents could attack surrounding plastics) I fill the cap from the bottle the alcohol comes in and immerse the male USB connector in it and then plug it into the female port a few times. I repeat this 2 - 3 times. It should help remove any oily films or other light contamination preventing a good electrical contact. I did not remove battery as I don’t think it is necessary given the relatively low voltage present and short period of time contacts are “wet” in the event the alcohol is even mildly conductive (which it may or may not be).
@mysimplefix
@mysimplefix 9 лет назад
Sounds good. Myself, I haven't found the need to use contact cleaner as I haven't seen contact corrosion /contamination cause charging problems (yet), quite possibly because these connector pins are gold plated which makes them immune to oxidization issues.

Dude, thank you so much. I thought I had to have my phone repaired and port replaced. I saw your video, I tried it with a needle instead. I gently probed with it in the space around the pins and could feel that there was soft lint inside. I just gently dragged it out and tapped the phone for the rest to come out and I could actually see that the plug was clean afterward. It hooked up nicely to my phone and charged perfectly. Very Cool. Thanks again.

In my case I noticed that it still isn't quite perfect (I wasn't expecting miracles) so I ordered a new USB charging port for my phone (ebay/$4.53 delivered). But it's perfectly functional again, and now I know what to do. *THANKS!!!!!!!*

Warning: This is a great video but bear in mind that if you do this for hours and it doesn't work, it probably means you've got a different problem. Don't get impatient though or you'll break your port, like I just did. I got fed up after a while and used a very thin tweezer (not beauty -- machinists tweezers -- proper ones). Unfortunately by that time I was pissed at Samsung and wiggled too hard, breaking the center tab right off. Now I need a new port. Meanwhile, I had to buy a couple of cheapo spare batteries and an external charger for swapping. Not that big a deal in my case -- low-end phone and I suspect dirt was never the issue, but your phone might be nicer than mine and if it is dirt, this video could save you a lot of money. Just don't lose your temper like I did!

Thank you for this video. My charger plug always stuck out a millimeter or two, even when new, and when it started to fall out, I did try to regularly clean dirt out of the port, by using toothpicks, canned air, waste cardstock, and even a bobby pin or three, but it didn't seem to do very much, so I thought that it was just the port wearing out. Turns out that dirt was just extremely compacted.

I didn't have any plastic to hand so used small folded piece of non sticky part of a post it note ie non conductive, folded to make it rigid enough. The little folds acted like small scoop too for finer pieces of lint/dirt. You good sir, are a saint and might I add saving the planet from people having to buy more electrical items they don't really need. I would love to pay you a small thank you on Patreon or similar if you have an account. Thank you very much

Bro u cant believe how much I love u right now, couple years back, I purchased the most top notch playstation wireless stereo headset of it's time, managed to find it in my drawer, charged and used it. I would even say it works much better than most modern headsets nowadays. After using it a couple times, I found it more difficult to charge it, as I would need to play around with the charger just to get it charging, used ur method, works like a charm 🥴

Even if most people know that dust gets stuck in the port and may cause a problem to the connection, this method shed some light on how hard it can be to get it out. I had a problem with my connector as it wouldn't fast charge (only slow charge which takes forever), and I cleaned the port with a small needle (which in hindsight I shouldn't have done at all since the needle is conducting and sharp). However, it didn't really solve the issue. Then I tried this and I managed to remove a lot more dust and grit, which I didn't even know was still there. And now everything works as expected. Thank you!

I found the perfect pre-made tool for the the USB cell phone charging port at my local dollar store. Yes it's a tool for something else. What you do to find it is go to the dentil section and look for the package of 90 degree dentil floss holders. When you find the right holders they will have a fold out tooth pick as part of the holder handle. The pick is just the right size and non-conducting to do a good job of cleaning out the USB port. As an added bonus you might find that this 90 floss holders makes flossing your teeth easier too. A little canned air after cleaning helps too. For the USB port not not your teeth. Currently I have a Duraforce Pro that has a sealing cap for the USB port and headphone port that eliminates the dust problem. It's like, why not all. Still using the 90 degree flossers for that other task.

Works like charm. I have Zonfone 2 phone. A week ago it suddenly took so long to charging until full, and got worse. I also got trouble to connect my phone to laptop and computers. So I've been suspecting maybe the charging/usb port was the problem, or maybe battery. Luckily I came across this video just when I'm about to go to the mobile phone repair shop. What I did was I used a small needle to clean the port hole, its a lot easier. As you said, there's a thick dust covering the port area. I clean it carefully, then when its done I tried again to charge my phone and it works man. From 15% speed up to 50% just like when its new !!!!! Cannot thank you enough man, you're a lifesaver. THANKS, LIKED AND SUBSCRIBED.

Just watched a video to replace the actual connector on the phone because mine would not stay connected. use duster next time tho! Yes, this DOES work. The problem? Air we blow out has moisture i.e saliva that can damage the board in the future. using duster from about 3 inches away, quickly is probably safer.

@mysimplefix
@mysimplefix 8 лет назад
+total_loser you must make sure that the tiny gap between the pin row (tab) and the inner wall of the charge socket has been swept down to the very bottom. Any debris in the gap, and the charge plug will never go in all the way, and will as a result, be loose.
@evanvega1647
@evanvega1647 8 лет назад
+Mysimplefix I made sure I got it all but it's still very loose. :(
@mysimplefix

+Mysimplefix It's firm in the other device.
@mysimplefix
@mysimplefix 8 лет назад
+total_loser one must be VERY careful when sweeping to the bottom.. As shown in the video I believe between 3 and 4 minutes or so, that tiny gap must be cleaned to the bottom. I'm suspecting that there may still be debris hiding in that gap.
