Why has trust fallen between viewers, and self-improvement creators? Why are people watching less self-improvement content? I talk about this and give my opinions.
Break away from binge watching self-improvement videos, and start taking action with a group in my paid community: cole-hastings....

FIRST :) thank you for acknowledging this and being honest and open (and also self aware enough) to share about it I also have been feeling the same way myself, as someone who’s watched self improvement videos for YEARS almost every other day if not daily - at a certain point you have to take action and stop focusing on other people’s journeys (as inspiring as they might be) and embark on your own. Also the fact that there’s just SO much content out there it can be overwhelming and like you said a lot of the times repetitive Excited to see what you post on this channel and always appreciate the authenticity!!

Actually Getting out there, interacting in person with people, and getting involved to help improve the world. That’s what I naturally found myself drawn to more as I have stopped watching self improvement. At some point , this should be the videos goals though, right? To help you actually ‘ self improve ‘so that you don’t need them and don’t want to watch them as much anymore. So then you can actually get out there in the world and make an impact, which to some degree is what I think we all really want to be able to do

Really great topic Cole! You highlighted a lot of why I feel put off to the modern self-improvement guru content. The harsh and assertive advice always felt too formulaic, as if there is some hard set path to “win life”. You never win life, you just keep enduring until it’s over. That endurance takes different forms of experience and heights of joy and despair for every single individual. It’s all nuanced. That’s why I prefer more intimate sit down talks like this if anything from a “self-improvement” person, which we all are in our own way. We’re all on the hero’s journey. I much would rather read a great canon novel or mature film than a self help book or finance bro reel. Life is just people’s stories. And your own. The only consistent conceptual thread of my ever evolving philosophical framework is empathy. For myself. And everyone. Preciate this new channel it’s probably more my style haha. Keep it up!

Glad to see you here in a more unstructured format! This is the "other" Eric (Aniversario) on your Discord and Skool communities. I appreciate your take on the current state of self improvement on RU-vid. I have watched your videos (and those of other self improvement creators) for a few years and I'd like to say that I genuinely have made some meaningful strides in life progress since then, but of course there is always (much) more room to grow. I'd say that my consumption has actually stayed about the same since then, but there are some results to justify those many hours of watching.

People are starting to seek deeper content for growth. I found that videos have become more popular, which emphasizes the other half of self-improvement: acceptance, letting go, shadow work, and finding deeper meaning. Additionally, I feel that people like Dan Koe, who promote self-experimentation and developing a unique journey and system for one's vision, are starting to rise.

I like the honesty! Nowaday seeing true honesty and kindness is kinda rare.. Most influencers has the agenda of keeping the viewer hooked/dependent, instead you show the necessary tools for us, which has worked in you daily life. True kindness shows in life, in a way that actions/lessons are made so that everyone is able to become self-sufficient and be able respect our differences. "To stop hunger, don't just give the food. Instead teach to become self-sufficient." Part of growing is to allow to make mistakes. I often see "leaders" and people who micromanage everything. So no one can learn to become someone who can operate independently. Example, best leaders give tools, then watch and allow mistakes to be made. Also, being present if needed and supportive when mistakes happen. Trying to control everything is unhealthy and poor management, because we grow from our mistakes. Life isn't about profit and control, it's a life we share together and interact, allowing us to become best version of our selves. Thanks for being real and trying your best to sincerely heal as much as you can!

Hey Cole, Eric here. In your Discord and your Skool community. I like the video format and enjoy. I haven’t been active as I’m trying to take the silent action, minus me telling you this now…and hope to report when something has happened and not within the “I’m going to do this” You’re correct, you’re different, and super authentic. I don’t enjoy the Hamza hate he’s received. The only problem he had is that he was so certain and then changed his mind on a lot of things. I think I’ve seen the same young RU-vidrs you have that tell you to meditate 😂. I appreciate you also mentioning in this video that the new ones to succeed are likely the ones that do change it up and offer something else that’s different than the norm. That gives me comfort in the journey I’m constantly battling within on whether to be super unique or bland and safe. Thank you

Thank you for this video :) Just like the market. The stock has to go up and down. There are only opportunities in every downfall or rise. Im a 16 year old small creator and most of my RU-vid journey I've been shitting bad videos, just recently started to do a lil better (I still shit bad vids but I have some in the safe lol). I think its not something new that is happening just the normal cycle of life, Hamza became the masculine SI creator everyone needed but now he used up this and now people need something else. I've been feeling like my content is not what I want to make tbh and I know I have so much more potential but Iv've just decided to "just copy Hamza" as literally everyone is doing now lol. The season of my life is learning, not "self-improvement". It became a cult and is just doing everyone a disservice. No matter if youre a creator or a viewer we need to educate ourselves on how the world operates from the first principles because if we dont there are always people who will know those and those can manipulate the shit out of you. Thanks again and looking forward to your channel.

Interesting concept - I look forward to seeing what comes of your new direction. As someone who has been working on herself and self-improvement, I’ve become incredibly disillusioned with the self-help approach that most have now. It does come off as fake, or to make money on suffering. It’s very unsustainable for the majority of humans as it takes out a lot of the humanity in how we live. Anyways, I’m here to see what you have to say. Good luck !
@sunnydanisummers
@sunnydanisummers 2 месяца назад
7:30 I’m commenting while watching your video, probably a mistake. If you wanted to explore the history of the business of self-improvement, I agree with you that in 2017, there was a huge increase in self-help advice geared towards men, but argue that this was something that came out of the already existing, “girl boss” gimmick that had been thriving in the early 2010s. It really seems that male influencers took note of that market, especially with MLMs growing and capitalized on the idea for a new demographic

Good to see you shooting (or speaking) from the hip with this channel man! Scripted videos don't tend to keep my boat afloat personally... I feel like the self improvement channels that you're referring to are using self improvement as the only inspiration for their videos rather than just living life and telling stories based on grounded experience. You can't self improve without living. I would say a lot of people need to just take action and live their lives - and naturally, they will evolve and "improve"... and then MAYBE making a "self improvement" RU-vid channel could be a nice offshoot from all of this. Big hug - did you run your marathon yet?

What I have realized is if self-help is not based on the desire to help others it will never be satisfactory.... ultimately we want to be better people for others, otherwise we can make up whatever illusion we want. So my advice is to impress the people that are worthy, not those that aren't worth our time.
@CoalHastings
@CoalHastings 2 месяца назад
I think the end goal of all self improvement should be to have a cup that is so full, that you can now start pouring that cup into other people's. It becomes very meaningless if the only reason you are improving for is yourself, forever.

Yeah absolutely, for me authenticity is huge. For example when comparing hamzas daily video with some goofy thumbnail that he used to do and now which is longer not edited videos, it make it seem to be more relatable in some sense and there isn’t a fake mask put on every new video. Also for me it’s the courses, I feel like a lot of self- improvement ytbers try to take advantage of the lack of drive and sense of improvement in the young guys, hence the course which I do not mind but it really (at least for me) make it seem like there is no good intent but rather a pure motive for money.
@CoalHastings
@CoalHastings 2 месяца назад
I don’t doubt a lot of self improvement RU-vidrs only make courses for a quick cash grab, but others want to: - genuinely connect with their viewers on a deeper level by creating a community with calls/stuff like that - have income separate from RU-vid Which is completely understandable. We need to make money somehow to be able to consistently put out content-YouTuve views and sponsorships are very unpredictable. So why not offer something useful and valuable that also allows you to talk to your subscribers face to face? Seems like a win win. Though I am aware of how many bad courses exist for the reason you mentioned.
