I own the 2021 Zephyrus G14. I found 1080p on a 14" monitor is the sweet spot. Higher resolutions give diminishing return for the higher hardware specs needed to drive those resolutions. I love the model I finally got.
Really appreciate the Panel Minimum Brightness plot, thank you! returned a blade 14 a few months ago because I could not use it in a dark room without getting a headache.
Excellent review! I purchased the non-Anime Matrix version for myself and the Anime Matrix variant in your review for my spouse based upon your evaluation, Upgrading the laptop(s) was VERY easy just as you noted. This laptop serves the portability function perfectly and delivers good gaming performance too; a perfect balance for our needs! Thank you for your thoughtful evaluation of this laptop!
I own the 2020 version, its a pretty powerful laptop, but temps get hot when running high performance, and when not connected to adapter, battery runs out pretty quick. so if you just use it to browse and other daily activity that doesnt require the RTX it can last longer and you wont get hot your fingers on the chassis, but you buy this for being a compact-game laptop. there are way cheaper alternatives for daily-use that don't drain battery that quickly.
The best review for this laptop, and I’ve seen about 10 so far, very practical. I managed to find the 2021 g14 with a 3060, 1tb ssd and 5800hs for ~950 usd. What would you suggest, go for that 2021 offer, wait for a discount on the 2022 version for its improvements, or wait for the next generation, which is just a round the corner?
Looks like a really nice laptop. I don't have much use for the size and power draw but if you find a 6800U product let me know! I have a 4800U and I am not in a rush but looking for something worthy as an upgrade. Great editing throughout your video. Really a pleasure to watch.
I'am looking to buy zephyrus G14 2022 for a while now, i just can't find one here in germany. When i found one for pre order on Amazon, i pre ordered, but then it didn't come and just told me to wait for the "possible"date of delivery or to just cancel my order, it's so frustrating.
Just bought exactly the same for 1599€ 🎉😊 Not sure if i keep (was into 4060 with 13th Intel first), but looking very forward to receive. 14days testing should be enough :)
It’s great to see manufacturers building AMD Advantage builds with decent specs, features, performance, screen quality etc with a much more competitive price compared to the Intel w/ Nvidia laptops on the market 🥰👍😇. Great review once again Nada / Techtesters 🤩❤🥰👍😇
I just hope they sell the 32G version without the matrix in the US. The one available at Best Buy is only 16G and if you want the 32G you can only get it at the Asus store and it costs $2500
Just bought one of zephyrus model. A 2021 model. Didn't think so much before, just grab one which is available at the store. Luckily I select the highest spec which got a RTX 3050 To rather than GTX1650.. I sacrifice a performance(ROG Strix Scar) for this zephyrus (which is good looking for a streamer to have an AnimeTrix Display to make the stream more enjoyable, to replace my Razer Emote Display which is quiet tiny 😝)
Great review! Very interested in this laptop. That said, with work/Netflix/mobility as heavy priorities, how do you think this compares with the ROG Flow X13 with the 680M GPU (if top gaming performance is not essential)? One inch difference and half the RAM, but anywhere between 20-30%(?) cheaper.
If you don't game at all, the X13 will be fine, especially with current discount prices. I've seen some as cheap as ~850 EUR here. The lower screen resolution will hurt productivity though!
you omit one of the most vital elements on the CPU - power usage. Intel may out perform in the high end with the 12H series, those are not in comparison to the huge amount the AMD uses less on power. This processor is brilliant and AMD is a clear leader in the X86_64 CPU market, with way better value for money and for power.
This is the laptop on my short list I'm looking to purchase. I honestly don't know much about AMD's GPU's so I guess my question is what is this GPU comparable to as far as performance on the Nvidia side of things. Thanks in advance and as always love your reviews.
Sub'd! Been enjoying your reviews! Hope to see a review on the scar17, qhd 240hz, 12900H, 3080 ti soon! Just got mine a couple of weeks ago, and i just love it! (was surprised it came with a free Asus external webcam, let down a bit with the webcam connecting with a micro-b instead of usb c, but can't complain that much as its free 😁) Hope to hear your thoughts about it 😉🤘
Thank you! Haven't heard about the 17" version but I doubt I'll see it soon. I had the older ones and if it's similar, I'd say it makes more sense than the 15" if you don't move it a lot.
Quick question: On the model with 8GB DDR5 RAM onboard, would adding a 2nd 16GB DDR5 RAM module affect performance, as from my understanding they won't be running in dual-channel?
DDR5 runs already at dual channel with one stick. With 2 Stickt you can get quad channel tho. For your question, you would get 16GB on quad channel and 8GB on dual channel but I don´t know how much it would be noticable.
can we like keep the total system power limit to 70-80W( as in performance mode ) but the fan run at full speed ( 48 Db). does it help to reduce more heat ?
Am playing GOW on high setting to ultra and still getting over 70 FPS, are you sure you have FSR on? and what are you AMD settings in Radeon Software ?
If you change the CPU Platform sPPT Wattage and lower this too 100/115 and use Manual settings. You'll get rid of that heating issues and lows 50's temp stable and won't lose performance. The fan temps and speeds are tricky. I found after hours of testing, the best is about fan speed 20% from 30c all the way to when it hits 75c keep the fan speeds at 20% this will keep you CPU temps under control and low 50s or under. This does not apply to GPU which mainly stays quite or power saving due to AMD Smart Shift and only really turns on for games. And if you want to skip all of this, use the silent mode for everyday things and when your ready to game use Manual or Turbo depending on the game. Turbo, and performance is fine maybe even the 6900HS-APU would be better in this case. If you want more detail testing's between many current G14 owners head to Reddit much more details their.
What is the specs of the memory that is soldered on? As I recall in previous models you were locked only to 8GB options so you could never get something like 32GB dual channel.
DDR5 ram sticks run in dual channel on each stick and quad channel together. So you could add a 16gb or 32gb stick in the non-soldered slot and have basically the same amount of performance, possibly more
@@JoshCravesTech That's only true in theory so far. Until someone is able to properly test asymmetrical DDR5 RAM setups in those laptops, I'd be more careful with statements like that. Just remember DDR4, which shows a progressive drop in performance as we increase the difference of the capacity between two memory sticks, and this behavior was not really predicted by many people at the beginning.
Does the G14 has Fn key Lock? I couldn't find a way to Lock the Fn Key, had to use Fn EVERYTIME. Anyone who is already using the G14, please let me know!
if my memory is right, amd said new 6000 laptop will have usb4 support and i have seen on a video that thunderbolt accessories working on a ryzen 6000 laptop with usb4. so technically you don't have to worry about thunderbolt support since those things will work on 6000 series laptops
I have the budget for this ,but it's not available in india ,I am between g14 and spectre x360 (2022) Only 2022 model available in india are acer Nitro 5 and zyphrus m16,I wonder when otheers would-be available
X13 is more portable, G14 is more powerful. Especially in games. Personally I'd take the G14, its just better all-round. The X13 sacrifices a lot of power (gaming especially) for only a little bit of weight.
Do you recommend this G14 with RX 6700s or last year G15 RTX 3060? I like this more since it's more portable and I want to bring it to work but the thermal system on G14 concerns me.
If you don't buy this laptop before, it easy to got convinced by these reviewers. However, after I bought this laptop Asus 14 6800s, the result is both good and bad. Good is laptops had the speed that all gamers wanted. However, the bad parts are the laptops are hot ass fuck even you added a cooling part to it. It crashed during the mid game. This is definitely not good for gaming laptop. Please, go read reddit or any bestbuy reviews. You won't regret after you check this out. Don't waste your hard earnings money.
Hello there. Have you tried to game of this laptop with 100 wat charger? I have heared that you can run AAA games at 1080p with this laptop at high settings. That this laptop can share 100 wat between cpu and Gpu. Its that efficient. Try it and let us know how it performs thank you 😍😍
Hi what are you looking at over to the right lol. If it’s your notes you should really move it because it’s super distracting watching you look over there.
This is such a downgrade for anyone who wants to use G14 as a portable working station for 3D rendering. 6800s without Optix is literally almost 3X slower than last year's G14 with 3060 in Blender. Bummer.
Why everybody on RU-vid don’t testing these kind of mobile devices on battery? It seems like Intel paid for that to avoid TDP, daily experience, price per performance and so on…. I would add good Linux support because AMD have GPU open drivers!
Because every gaming laptop ever did badly when gaming on a battery, that'll run you super light games only. Nothing to do with Intel (or AMD, or Nvidia, etc). As for Linux, I don't use it.
@@TechTesters poor argument because it’s not “every” it’s full AMD, everybody knows it’s your job to do reviews for money, please don’t manipulate peoples mind with that kind of behaviour. Do your job more seriously, be pro and tell people what they should know besides Intel’s and Nvidia’s marketing.
@@HumbleHuman-k7g because nobody does(and shouldnt) be gaming on battery. All amd or not youd be lucky to get 2 hours tops. Now if youve done even the tiniest bit of research youd realize if battery is a concern youve got to go amd(at least cpu wise) anyway because it just does better there.
@@1babyflix power draw is negligible and you can even turn it off. So there is no down side to having it. Also: all the more expensive versions have it. It's just some added feature.
@@matthiasschwarzenberger9579 well there is still two other downsides to me (weight, cost) i would love to have the fully speced version with a normal lid... Plus the holes will get nasty quite quick compared to a smooth lid. I know it's also a preference thing. And I am sure your Animatrix lid rocks, i just wish it actually was a choice as they say in most reviews
@@TechTesters Very uncommon, but this doesn't make it less unnaceptable. One question: if everybody decided to follow the Apple trend to solder CPU, ram and nvme and even use undetachable power cables as Apple is doing, does it make it more acceptable? why, because other brands are doing it? These products should at least be obligated to include an eWaste Warning in big letters. In this case: "Unrepairable RAM included".
