I like that RAM makes the Power Wagon in Tradesmen trim. Not everyone wants all the luxury things, they just want the capability. Plus a $20,000 price difference is huge.
I really like the looks of the Tradesman actually. EXCEPT the chrome bumpers. What were they thinking? It would look soooooo much better if they were black.
and there isn't much real chrome these days. truck pulled up behind me today (silverado i think) with the whole chrome grill all bubbled up about to peel off. the first thing almost every tacoma trd off road owner does is change that shiny grill. i'm not saying chrome is bad on trucks, but no off-roader want bling and it's all like a plastic foil adhesive stuck on plastic now anyway.
I like the power wagon I really do but I want to really see it off road. Maybe add a rock slider and go for it. The reason...the gladiator is coming out soon and it has similar payload and a little light on towing. So why would I go into a dealership and spend more money on a power wagon over a Rubicon gladiator. I want the power wagon I really do but they have to prove to me it’s worth the higher price when FCA will be making a very capable truck for less. Come on Nathen show me the power wagon really don’t care. Lol.
This TFL Truck presentation brought to you by Shine Armour. Shine Armour, make sure your vehicle is clean before you use our product to clean it again, if not it’ll scratch the shit outta your paint.
Even though I like every one of the guys at TFL and there has been a few other Power Wagon videos, I am doubly happy to finally see Nathan in his natural habitat with a big ole Power Wagon Don't Care grin on his face. I too can't wait to see you guys take his beautiful brute on some trails in Colorado or Moab. God Bless America.
All the Power Wagons look awesome but that tradesmen with the Power Wagon package looks really really good I love how Ram offers that package and carried it over from the last gen.
When I rented a Ram to try out I was leery about the dial, when I was done with the truck I LOVED the dial and wanted it in my Ford. It's smooth and when you get into tight spots you can go from drive to reverse so quick back and forth much faster than any gear lever or console shifter. You watch, the dial will take over in all vehicles within the next 8 years.
Its nice to see a truck builder including all the goodies in the base model. Not all of us need LED head and tail lights or a luxury interior. I wont feel cheated if I go for the lower cost model! Thanks Ram and a shout out to TFL for another great video.
Yep, I totally love the rotary shifter in my 2019 Laramie 5.7 e-torque 1500. I wish my truck was available with the front bumper style of the Rebel. I'd have gotten the Rebel if it was available with the front bench style seat. I'm not sure the Rebel is available with e-torque?.
@@mjg6377 oh, that's great news Rebel can be e-torque. Thx.Yep, I absolutely think the front bench style seat is great. Asked for it in my previous truck too. It's plenty comfortable for me and I'm one who really appreciates comfort. I got bench cuz of versatility. I can fit three people or a long box or cooler. Also got the passenger seat fully electric, height adjustable with lumbar like the driver seat. I realized I made the mistake of not making sure my passengers have nice features also from the many complaints in my previous truck. These salespeople just don't tell us very much. We have to do most all the investigating of every single option and feature. Three things missing on my new 1500 Laramie that I'll be sure to get in my next truck are the larger 33 gallon fuel tank, the engine block heater and the rear bumper deployable bed step. They sold me the standard 26 gallon fuel tank which gives at most 350 miles driving range and I'm pissed off about that. I'm constantly refueling. For me driving range is of key importance. I'd think a decent intelligent salesman would recommend going with the larger fuel tank anyway, especially considering these vehicles ain't the greatest on mpg. I'm after the 50/50 truck, or maybe 60/40 regarding on road/ off road capabilities.
@@Jonathan-tb6fm I purchase 16 Plantnuim ReserveXD and 17 SV XD diesel, Transmission has problems. When entering on highway or turning corners, truck hesitate when picking up speed. Both models doing the same. I purchase a gas model XD with snow ready package in January for snow removal and was disappointed on how the truck perform. Ready for Power Wagon.
Wish dealers carried more 6-passenger seating in a luxury trim. The dropdown center armrest is much more comfortable. Plus I can use the 6-passenger capacity to sell the idea of a pick-up truck to my wife over a 5-passenger Honda Passport/CR-V.
This has been my problem as well; a family of 6 must fit for me but I absolutely want the big screen and some nice stuff. Most of the makers stick a full console in there on the higher trims, but I've seen pictures/video of 2019 RAM HDs with the folding split bench in the front with the new large (12" I think) display and interior. Not sure on the heated/cooled seat options with the bench though.
@@T51B1 I found in the Ram Configurator, you can get the 12-inch screen and all of the luxury and safety features on the Laramie trim and still get the 6-passenger seating. This and the RamBin and RamBox options are why I have pushed the Ram to the top of my list.
Can’t wait to see this on the Ike. I had a 17 2500 6.4 with 3.73 rear and I have to say I loved the 6.4 but absolutely hate the 6 speed auto. I always felt like the truck struggled to move it’s own weight because of the horribly spaced gearing that killed the power band of the 6.4. I bet it’s a damn monster working with a proper transmission. And extra gears.
Nice truck. Love it. Almost bought it. Bit too big for Chicago streets. Got ram 1500 instead. If dealer didn’t lie to me that they had it in stock I would be driving one now...
I know they play in different arena's but 67k is still cheaper than the 70k+ I'm seeing for a new Raptor. And used 2017/18 Power Wagons are going for 45kish. That's not bad especially with the extended warranty
I'm disappointed Ram still hasn't given the Wagon better shocks. HUGE disappointment for those of us looking for real changes besides some appearance mods. Those shocks are a CRUEL JOKE played on Power Wagon owners.
True. I just pulled the trigger on Kings for my '16 from Thuren (amongst some of Don's other suspension bits). From other reports, it really transforms the truck.
You'd need to swap out the springs for regular 2500 units, the stock PW ones are very squishy. It would be a waste really, this truck is meant to climb and twist, plus the plow blocks the winch. A base model 2500 4x4 with the locking rear is all you need.
Agree Nathan, rotary and push button shifters are overcomplicated nonsense with the only upside being they are “easier” and fancy for a luxury vehicle. A truck??? They have zero place in a truck.
@@thehayman7352 i am crazy i have 1.6 inch in front all 4 bilstein 5100 but i put icon 212150 reac 1.5 inch raise with 1 inch block … 1.6 front 2.5 back i see better handle better the squat on acceleration levels the truck unloaded and i changed for cast iron pro comp control arm now it turns smooth . bilstein 5100 rear chocks ment for 1 inch can take 2.5 inch spacer :)
@@BushcraftQuebec I got the stock bilstein 5100 with a leveling kit so it can fit 33's. They have been absolutely amazing onroad and offroad. No letup or sounds and I can fit the tires I want, so no reason to change them. Crazy reliable alk the way around
ive never seen one off road. ive at least seen a few Raptors pussy footing around in dry washes...you need four doors to take the kids to starbucks i guess
Nobody bought reg cabs so why build them? I’ve seen plenty of these trucks getting well used, far more so than even raptors. The raptor is a well known status symbol, whereas not as many ppl know about the PW and those who buy them are usually serious about off-roading.
Is there a supercharger and/or tuner option for this 6.4? I was hoping the new PW would get more than a new winch rope and 8 speed trans. Really hoping for the new cab size in the PW soon!
I think FCA should consider that option. If they won't put a diesel in it at least put a supercharger on the gas engine or put a hellcat motor in it, the gas part of the Ram HD segment needs some love.
After many years of happily driving RAM 1500s (most happily with the sublime 8spd) I finally stepped up to my dream truck and bought a 2018 Power Wagon. It has been my daily driver and tow/travel rig for the last year and a half. It has surpassed my wildest expectations and is by far my most favorite vehicle Ive ever owned, which is saying something. But this new Wagon has put a hitch in my giddy up. My Wagon has all the bells & whistles plus it looks great...the ONLY thing I long for is that 8 speed. Is it enough to trade in my 18 already? No. But when the time comes, I am so happy it will have the 8 speed and by that time, will be a whole new generation of 2500. THANK YOU RAM for keeping this awesome vehicle updated and in the line up!!
I am with you Nathan. I have said it for years that there should be a front camera in off road trucks for sure. Every truck and SUV that has a nose that is obscuring your ability to see in front of you should have it. This Ram having it is appropriate. And like you, I find some of this push button, knob turning crap Dante. It has no place in a "Power Wagon". It can be slapped in your Subarus and CVT driven mall tinker toys. But a WORK hard and play hard rugged machine.. NO! IF I had the need for a truck these days, this vehicle would def. be on my radar of choices. But not the froo froo throw pillow for the couch accessorizing garbage.
It bugs me that no one ever talks about the old school/ugly center console that you get with a power wagon . One of the things I REALLY like on the new rams is the new center console . The power wagon goes old school and retains the floor shifter and therefore , you're stuck with that really shitty console .... Ram is all new ...but that console is uuuuuggglllyyyy !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I drove a 19 today and I drove my 18 6 speed in, the difference is night and day to be honest. Takes way less throttle to maintain speeds and doesn't need to drop down and throw the rpms up anymore. It felt like it had a lot more passing power in my opinion as well. Call me crazy but I actually felt like the engine was smoother, it was quieter as well.
I do not like the rotor shifter either. Just more electric, digital garbage that will need replacing, and will be horrifically over priced to fix, where ive never heard of anybody needing to replace a manual gear shifter because it stopped working.
Nathan has a way on video that is much more pleasing to watch. I think he come across as very down to earth guy and has natural connection with viewers. Not that other folks on the show are bad but he’s just better.
Please dont sell out on any product that hands you money. That spray and wash crap is not a car wash in a bottle. That challenger was already clean. If you did that to a dirty car you would have put all kinds of scratches in that paint.
shockracer In my experience as an owner, I can get 15-20mpg on the freeway with 37” tires but my average will stay around 14. Stock, the best I saw was 17.8mpg for my average after a long trip on back roads. The new 8 speed should help all that.
Yep, me too. The Rams look great. I prefer the ones without the huge decals all over the place or the huge stamped name on the tailgate like Ford has it on their Raptor. I'm fine with just the small chrome cut/angled Ram statue in the upper center of my Ram tailgate.
Really annoyed with journalists and the public knocking the rotary dial. Had it in my 2016 ram. Now have it in my 2019. Works like a charm, looks sharp, has all your 4x4 stuff in one place, and it automatically shifts you into park if you forget. Also keeps you from shifting while the truck is moving which is a pet peeve of mine. I dont need to move a mechanical lever to feel masculine.
If your battery dies and you need to move your vehicle can you shift it into neutral to go up on a trailer or something? It's just another electronic thing to break and to me it literally solves nothing. I'm all for innovation and cool new things and tech, but when it takes an already good design of a tree shifter or a console / floor shifter and does nothing to add anything other than maybe 'looks' which is debatable, then it's just a useless feature, to me.
@@fern8974 I guess we should take anything out of a truck thats found in a car. Why dont we get rid of ABS, thats for pussies anyway. And why dont we just get rid of those gay airbags. Lol
@@michaelflick4346 Yeah but you probably still had battery power. What if your battery is dead and or out of the vehicle and then you had to switch to neutral? Unless they have secret hidden barriers built in somewhere I don't think it'll work.
Power Wagon 6.4 Package should be available on the 1500 as well, Ram needs to get with the program and offer more engine options in their half tons, we need more power captain!
