Words like "Off road" and "overlanding" RV get thrown around in relation to these a lot. While that awesome Goodyear Wrangler tire setup and axle lift certainly works better than a common 14" tire setup I don't know if I'd go QUITE that far with it. I try to keep expectations a little more grounded for folks :)
I think this is one of the best appointed "In betweeners" I've ever seen for someone whose tow vehicle can't quite handle a bigger tandem axle bunkhouse with a slide out (like many seem to have now) or for someone looking for a smaller camper packed with more upscale features. Either way -- it gets the job done!
I personally really appreciate the longer 80" bed you get in these Feather Micros as a taller person. The headroom in the shower is also a welcome find in a smaller camper!
The Exclusive Blackstone Griddle is also something that makes me jealous when I look at one of these vs. the Jay Flight 264BH I usually camp in. Not to mention the solar package and tank heaters lol
I'd be curious to know what people would use that bunkhoue cargo door for!

I bought one of these this last weekend and tried the bed out. I am 6’4” and it was just fine. Important to keep the same height when getting replacement mattress or your pillow will fall off the edge in the night…unless you sleep with your head the other way.

I like it, even though I don't need the sleeping space, I could see those bunks coming in handy for storage, that would give this trailer incredible storage for its size. One thing about camping in the spring or fall you need everything from summer to winter clothing, now there is a place to keep it.

Man! There are so many different types and styles of campers out there that there is no excuse for not finding the one that suits you! It’s amazing! I do wish manufacturers would understand that some of us “senior citizens “ would like the quality and fit and finish of a Montana, Luxe or DRV in a 30 footer.

Just wanted to thank you very much Josh on a great channel! We had to subscribe to you (twice👍)! We watched a ton of your videos, and found them very informative in choosing the right one! We just picked this bad boy up Saturday, and couldn't be more happier! I tow it with a 2011 Nissan Frontier crew cab 4x4 with WDH, Sway, and break controller installed, and I still had a good amount of towing capacity to spare. I went with smaller propane tanks to lighten the tongue weight, because it's just gonna be a weekend warrior mobile, and maybe sustainable for a week of hunting. Thank you once again for breaking down the information on these coaches. We found the perfect one, and couldn't be more happier! Keep up the great work !!!👍

I like that it’s under 21 feet long and under 10 feet tall it can fit in my garage and not be destroyed by weather all year long. Still can fit family of 4. I think I want this with a sofa instead of dinette. Maybe with a slide out too!

With a microwave oven, I don’t need a gas oven. In fact, with a convection microwave, I could get by with only a one or 2 burner stove. I like this one. I would use it as equipped. Like the nerf bars, the folding bunk and it’s cargo door, the roomy toilet space ands shower surround, the proper microwave, the galley and it’s peeper window. I bit heavy, but it’s content justifies the extra weight. Now if the outside came in Douglas fir green and bark brown.

We have this model and ours has the microwave/convection oven. I LOVE THIS CAMPER!!! My husband lived in it for 3 mos working out of town. I stayed with him for 2 weeks and we were able live comfortably.

Dude I just toured this unit today and I was so excited. I am 6'4" without shoes and a cap and I was able to fully walk around this unit without taking hat off, and AND stand in the shower without taking shoes and cap off. I am blown away. I wish the price tag was closer to 20k than 30k but I may just have to splurge. This is the tiny unit for tall people. After two years of being underwhelmed and hitting my head and thinking I need to sacrifice this unit has brought back my spark to buy. Thanks for all the videos Josh.

I try to be slow and steady with that when I can. I don’t watch a lot of other RV reviews but most of the time when I do I get motion sick and a headache really quickly the way they flip the camera around willy-nilly

We have a 2018 Keystone Passport 2520rl.....it has an oven!! We LOVE it! Our previous OLD trailer just had a cooktop and it was a priority for us to have an oven when we bought the new one. Raised in MI, now live in northern IN...it's not just southerners that love the ovens. haha We like camping in cooler weather and nothing better than popping in a pan of lasagna that I made in advance in the oven when we finally get to that destination, or making a flat bread pizza for lunch. Oh and then there are biscuits of course.

I would get this if it was just me. I like the shorter trailers. I love the storage cubes. Crap- there's a bunk. Look at that cargo door, I like that so you can use the bunk area better. Love the Goodyear tires. Love the solar.

I think this is cool. I agree the storage cubes added to the dinette would work in a pinch. However, I camped from Johnstown, PA to Ridgecrest, CA along with my mother and father, and three younger sisters in a 15,' tip to tail, Hi-Lo camp trailer!

Last night I commented on your other video about the wolfpup or jayco, we ended up finding a very lightly used 2022 one of these and are so excited! I like the light cabinets, but don’t like how they combo them with the dark ones. I love the big fridge. With a family of 4, we need the space. I really like having an oven, but if not, at least a convection microwave. I like how a lot of manufacturers are including at least some solar, with the option to add more. I’m a fan of Azdel, intrigued by the “double Azdel”. Overall, a pretty nice little trailer. Love the Miss Piggy! 😂

WOW, This Is 'The ONE'! Now all 4 of us can have our own bed, Perfect! Josh, I love the 3 burners, and would opt for the Convention Microwave since no oven. ..I've never used a griddle, but that would be cool. Also, definitely add Max Solar, an extender kit counter space, and 'Farmhouse' all the way, ♥️ the colors! My fav thing is, it's only 20ft 2in long! I wanted something short, jam packed with my favs, ♥️ love the gorgeous bath, it even has a feature I wasn't expecting, I can bring my Bike, I Don't have to leave it outside! I've looked at the JAYCO brand and everyone talks about how well built they are and the materials they use. That's important to me: Structural Durability, Functionality, and hey, Beauty. With this product, I get THAT, And everything else I wanted! JAYCO, You Knocked It Out of the Ballpark! U know you're BAD TO THE BONE. Say it with me, 'BAH BAH BAH BAH BAD'! 👍♥️✌️

I would add a off road style rear bumper which could take a decent bump in order to protect the rear wall and the protruding spare tire. Plus, it would look cool with the overall rugged outdoor look of the trailer.

The 21's came out late so there wasn't a lot to update. Actually a lot of the features on these Micros have "trickled UP" into other Jayco products Just a few touches here and there. These are mostly the same as their 2021 counterparts

Except for possibly a bigger window over the dinette, which looks really nice, and the storage boxes instead of the drawers (although that might have been a mid-year 2021 revision) I don't see much different from the 2021 model. I wish that Jayco would incorporate the ShowerMiser in their bathrooms, especially on these models that can be more 'off-road' (or at least non-campground). I like the added cargo touches in the bunk/cargo area. I agree that there should be more camp-side windows, especially since there is no front window, and I'd like to see a oven option (although a convection microwave is at least somewhat of a substitute). I've been in this model and the bed is very narrow for two people. All in all, I prefer their 166FBS floorplan.

I think this would be my ideal spec. Size and layout. I just wish it had a Murphy bed up front honestly for more sitting space during day time hours 🤔. The size and everything else is perfect tho to me

Love that you always take the time to do the extra work and: 1. Show the view from the sitting area and/or from the bed in terms of TV and entertainment center. 2. Show travel mode accessibility if it has slides 3. Bathroom legroom. 4. Ceiling height specially in the shower. 5. When you indicate potential negatives or areas of improvement. All that is greatly appreciated. In this coach, I love the cargo door. I which becomes more common whenever possible in bunkhouses. Also love the "rock guard". This is similar of what overlanders put on their jeeps to protect the body of the jeep if the go rock crawling. I don't if all manufacturers do it but surprised the spare tire have the nice rim. I prefer storage over the oven. I can get a separate "camping" oven if I ever want one.

Lots to like in this little package! Love hearing double Azdel construction and standard solar. Narrower, or even shorter bed not an issue for us- we're not big, tall people and we like to cuddle. Still not sure how I feel about the lower bunk cargo door. I think I lean more towards not liking it. I, too, am a Tetris master level packer and organizer. (and, yes, I was quite good at Tetris itself). My brain just seems to be good at spatial awareness and pattern recognition. (There might be just a touch of OCD mixed in there, as well...)🤣 The downside is that I'm the one who gets stuck doing it all.

These bunk beds with the cargo storage on them I would prefer the opening on the back instead of the side and the door have the hinge on the bottom instead of the side so it can double as a ramp for your bike or ebike. Perfect storage for those! And much better than bicycle ramps on back for ebikes or multiple bikes.

I was just going to say the same thing! A cargo door on the back that folds down would be much handier and allow for the storage of much bigger and longer things in the area, without having to try and cram them or bend them through that side door. I don't know why none of the manufacturers that make models or plans similar to this have done this!

@@melissaburke7093 I agree. With bicycles on the back, I have heard of them failing and pieces recovered from the side of the road. Ebikes are actually too heavy for the bike rack at the back. This cargo space is the right size and much more secure for those smaller toys without the expense or weight of a toy hauler.

This is a very similar layout to the trailer we used to have, and it’s 4 people max. Ours “slept 5” but the truth is you run out of counter space trying to convert the dinette to a bed every night. In 5 years we never once felt we were missing out on not having an oven. Did I mention the lack of counter space?

All pros and really only 2 cons from me I'd like a bigger fridge scrap that drawer underneath for a bigger fridge and my standard complaint I'd like dual axles. Otherwise this little gem is exactly the right size for me! I love it! I'd get bigger solar, heated underneath cover for batteries, the convection oven. Can you put a flip up counter on the end of the counter by the door? Or are the control devices in the way? Again have a very Happy Labor Day👍💟

Josh I live your videos...I went yesterday to an RV dealer in Canada and looked at Rockwood minilite and this version...liked it but, what really disturbed me was I could see staples everywhere!! Stories of wood separating around the fridge...well why would they not use glue and pocket screws like in the Rockwoods???

I feel that this should have the convection microwave option the cost increase is minimal and you are adding functionality without losing any thing. As for not having a gas oven if a convection microwave and a cooktop is good enough for a diesel pusher surely it's good enough for a little travel trailer?

Amazing. I do wish you could move the table to the camp side and the kitchen to the other side. I am sure there is a very good structural reason for the design though. The switch would make it perfect though.

I just spent 5 days and nights in my 171BH. my main complaint is gray and black tanks capacities. if you have an outdoor table,put it by outdoor shower with 2 tubs for washing dishes to save gray tank.

I agree an counter extension and camp side window would just about make this perfect. The counter extension is something I’m planning to get for my 171BH (waiting to take delivery). How can I add a camp side window? What’s the wall thickness of the double Azdel walll? Is there a structural member I’d be cutting into? I’m also planning of replacing the window in the door that has the obscure glass with a thin shade window, but I really think this unit needs a camp side window.

I do not recommend adding windows where they're not already located. You're changing the stress points in the walls doing that and much much more likely to have issues which will not be covered by their warranty

Love this rig. I would like an oven but I guess if the microwave is a convection also that would work also. I think it can but can you confirm if I can tow this with a 2021 Jeep Gladiator Sport S max tow package?

I'm not personally very familiar with that vehicle setup. At a glance I'm seeing over 7,000lb capacity which seems a pretty open and shut case but I would definitely suggest you verify the vehicle's capacity before diving in head first

I like the storage boxes. Could one box go under the window and make the table swivel so everyone can reach? Does anyone bring along a small toaster oven? My kids are tall and thin. They can have the bed. The grandkid and I could have the bunks :) I like my no slides!

I read somewhere that only 20% of people use the oven. I seldom use it. It’s a pain to light the pilot.

Man Josh I am telling you that is a stick of dynamite. A whole lot of bang in a small package. Only thing it's missing is the little outdoor table. Can you add a second solar panel to the roof and still have a roof rack? Also does it come with like the wifi ranger? Can you upgrade the 20lb gas tanks to 30lb tanks? As always great videos and you do a awesome job of covering all the pros and cons.

I don’t know there’s physically enough space up there to have the roof rack and a second panel. These do not have the Wi-Fi range or system but there’s plenty of things like that out there. I’m trying a bit of a blank on the propane tanks though. I am pretty sure it’s available… But that’s not 100% confidence. At least not from the factory level. That’s a very easy thing to put aftermarket

I like this trailer a lot. I think the only thing I would like to see as an option is removing the dinette and having a sofa. Kind of like the sofa in the 166FBS.

Personally, I wouldn’t use an oven. Convection micro is perfect for me. Option a battery box on the hitch.

This one is a big Hit with only minor misses that would not stop me from choosing it it's tiny but mighty.love that very large fresh water tank and standard solar pkg. If I ever get a chance to buy one of these I would need to come up there and arrange a time(day😄)for me to meet with you to go over every aspect/feature and function how to and why of it and also have the " Extras" put on before I ever hitch it to the tow capable vehicle I don't have yet. Speaking of this particular model can a smaller SUV OR A Subaru Forester tow this Trailer?

Some suvs will handle it. You will want something likely capable of 6000lbs or more I think to handle it not only safely but also comfortably

The biggest thing missing is a flip up counter. Solved: I found a white hawk on the lot with one, took picture of VIN, went to parts counter. They ordered me one from the white hawk TT, was like $50.

Thanks for another great review! This has a bunch of features we like but two discourage us - we would prefer a walk around (or murphy) bed and we don't need bunks. On the Jayco Jay Feather Micro site they have a 173MRB floorplan that my wife and I really like as it ticks all our desired RV boxes, but we haven't seen a single picture or video of that model. Have you seen one of these or has it been sidelined by supply issues? Thanks for your response!

Hi Josh, Could you offer a little insight on why all of the Jayco 171BH (in the mid-Atlantic area) don't come in Vintage Gray, and don't have the JayCommand. I know you don't have a crystal ball but this seems to be a system wide issue. I have looked all across Virginia, over to Delaware and up to Pennsylvania. I have family in southern Michigan so I even checked your shop, but none in stock. Love your video. Thanks.

That may be a reflection of the dealers in the area & what they order rather than something Jayco isn't offering. All Jay Feathers come out of their Indiana facility. We just got a 199MBS in their vintage decor so I can confirm it's being offered. It's _possible_ they paused production of the Vintage decor for a while. But it's most definitely available currently

That’s not exactly how it works. Solar alone won’t run something like the air. You need an inverter for that - and a good one

@@JoshtheRVNerd Yes they are, tooo pricey. That's why I'd love to see Jayco or Rockwood adopt the style a bit on some models. The murphy bed conversion in the living room and you could have a huge kitchen and bath.

Just an FYI regarding the stove, 95% of the "baking" I do, regardless of camping or not, is done with my nice big toaster oven. It would only be important to me to have a factory installed oven in an RV would be in one I'd be spending close to full time in. But that's just me😃
