Here in Finland the difference for the AniMe cover is about 50€, not 500. I can get the regular one (available only in white) for 1950€ and the one with AniMe cover (only in black) for 2000€ (both with the 1080p 120Hz panel, 4800HS, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 2060). For some reason, our prices are way more expensive anyway! 😒 . I know you said the build quality is good, but how does it compare to others? In particular I am interested in its build quality comparisson with Razer Blade 15 (base 2020), GS66 and Surface laptop (metal). I know the Surface is different, but in terms of build quality it is really good. Thank you for the nice review :)
Thank you! - if it's 50EUR, get it ;) - Build quality is really good, but it's hard to compare. The Blade has a little bit less flex and feels a bit tougher, but it also looks dirty so easily. GS66 is similar I'd say. Thing is, I don't think build quality is something you should really make a main consideration when choosing between these 3-4.
Got my G14 about a week ago so I have not done much on it yet to review the performance. The fans do seem to be a bit loud compared to my work HP 17" zbook. Due to the price and the color (gray) available at the time, I got the ryzen 7 4800hs with GTX 1660ti max-q, 16gb ram and 512 ssd. No animatrix. The size and weight is perfect for the specs and it looks good. Good reviews, keep up the good work.
Hi Nada! Thanks for finally doing a proper review of the AniMe matrix model of the G14. I am so glad to get a bit more closer to it as this model starts rolling out. I personally love the Matrix model, but not sure if it's absolutely worth it. I am still waiting for the G14 to be released in my country.
Hi Nada! I've been using the G14 120hz option with the RTX 2060 Max-Q and Ryzen 4900HS configuration for 2 months now and I absolutely love it! The compact design is exactly what I was looking for when downscaling from a 15.6" display. The performance is rock solid, especially when playing games. My CPU and GPU hasn't gotten any hotter than 75 C while gaming which is great. This can be done when disabling Turbo mode in the registry, making the laptop run at the stock 3GHz. All in all, great package for a thin and light gaming laptop!
I really love your laptop reviews. Very thorough and a great job going over specs. I like that you will recommend other models and the reasons for your opinion. Great Job!
Depends on what you want. The G14 is a little bit nicer, more portable, but also more expensive. The G15 is a bit bigger, and a bit cheaper, and the 240Hz option is great for games.
Hi Nada! ... Great review as always! :) I got my G14 one month ago (Ryzen 7 / GeForce RTX2060 / 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD / 1080p 120Hz) and it works just perfect for both work and gaming... I really recommend it! I didn't get the Anime matrix version, even if I think that looks cool, I also think that is useless (at least for me XD) Keep up the good work!
Great review. Another thing, the extra $500 is not just for the Ani Matrix Display, it is for the higher resolution QHD panel. The $1449 model comes with 1080P display but 120 Hz refresh rate. Also, the QHD panel is actually more color accurate and cover better color gamut and has better contrast ratio but a bit dimmer than the FHD panel.
@@OlafvanEss The 120hz has the option of having a 1660ti or a 2060 max q. Edit - Idk about storage on the 1660ti version but my 2060 max q variant has a 1tb NVMe SSD.
great video. I don't game, but I'm looking for a trading laptop. Would you suggest ryzen 5 or 7? also does the graphics card really matter, 1650 ti or a 2060 or is it more important to have 16 gigs of RAM or 24 g b rather than a powerful graphics card for trading? Thanks for your help
Disabling turbo on this laptop will drop the temperature from 90+degrees celcius to about 72-73 while gaming with zero performance hit. Ive been playing COD and Breakpoint on max settings with 70-80fps and comfortable temps. Using a cooling fan will drop temperatures down below 70 as well.
@@jeffreymathews398 beamng is another one, went from 60 FPS to 45 FPS when I disabled boosting, temps are less scary though, from 89-90 to 72-73c is a very good drop
@@MrTARIQSs What the - which version do you have? Beamng runs at 100ish fps for me at high settings with turbo disabled on my 2060 version. The only time I get like 45 fps is with around 10 cars in.
@@-Burb mainly talking about super demanding maps like italy and west coast, can go up to 100 on smaller maps, also I have it on max with reflections disabled
I bought a G14 with 4800HS 16GB ram and 512gb SSD 120hz 1080 panel GTX1650TI and its fantastic - I see over 10 hours of battery life on silent - on power and the performance and turbo modes the fans do get a bit loud - i use these modes for processing astronomy images and can live with the noise for short periods - you would be ok with a headset and these modes - performance is good and ramps up and down - I skipped the flashy lid as the only ones with it in New Zealand are the 4900HS models and they are 800-900 NZD more - for only a small lift in performance I took the GA401II model at 16GB and 4800HS - build is fabulous and the grey model is gorgeous - there is a new firmware fix for the keyboard lighting - mine is bright and even and very pleased with the look at night - the panel is bright even in stronger daylight and in a dimmer room needs turned down as its too bright for me - one thing that reviewers missed is the audio - this has some of the best sounding speakers I have heard on a PC - they are fabulous and really love the audio system its loud and the audio can be adjusted within the control panels for the dolby plugins - Armoury Crate allows me to turn the fans down to silent when just browsing the web - doing that this thing is cold .. i mean like 24c just browsing - in a slightly darker room and brightness at 50pc that gives me well over 10 hours of battery ! I am very pleased with the laptop its a good all rounder and the build is stunning - save the cash and buy the 4800 - get more memory as its soldered to the board (there is a second ram chip so its dual channel) and get the 1080 panel for faster response and longer battery - go buy one you won't regret it!
I returned it because I felt the whole reason for buying it was for the speed. Having to nerf it just to keep it cool really sucked. Bought the G15 with 3 m.2 slots, 64 gb of ram, rtx 2070 and an i7 10750H. Stays cool with no issues.
Hi! Can you explain it a little more on how to put 3ghz please? And does anyone had issues with blue screen? I work on blender and it happens often when I'm rendering... its a good machine but, it make me think to return it.
@@byroncos its actually 2.9ghz and you can watch a quick tutorial on how to do so. Im not someone who uses blender but I do compute alot of code and push this machine to the max when gaming and never ever had a blue screen.
are the airholes for the cpu covered up like Asus has been doing for the other TUF ryzen based laptops of late? Those temps are high, oof. Thanks for the review Nada.
You can make the speakers sound even better by going into Dolby software and changing the setting to "Dynamic". Also make sure you turn HDR video on to make the screen look even better. Mine was turned off from the start. Also I got the 1080 120hz version. I like the extra fps, I don't miss the resolution on something so small.
Just bought g14 with anime matrix two weeks ago, have to say it is really a balanced machine with size, weight and performance. I like to use it for working and gaming everyday!
I have had my G14 Ryzen 9, RTX 2060 max -q, 120hz display for a couple of weeks and I love it! It can handle most games on max settings. It’s super fast and easily portable. I was torn between it and the Asus M15. I just love the size and power!
I just got mine and did the unboxing, one thing that seems not cool is the display is very small when doing a content creation, premiere pro - need to adjust text scaling to 125% to work properly
You can jimmy around with the settings and turn off the constant turbo mode, and its stops overclocking everything and it keeps the heat and power draw A LOT better
Hi I wanted to ask you something regarding posting videos on youtube ,do you ask permission from the manufacturers to review the product or do you just review them ?? because I wanted to start a youtube channel on tech and when I was reading there was a lot of information stating that i can't use company logo on my channel unless I have some permission and also is there anything else I need to know ? I would really appreciate it if you could help me out with any advice !!!!
I'm pretty sure you don't need permission from manufacturers to review their products 😉. I'm not sure about the use of their logos though, but you don't really need those for anything.
Techtesters ok thanks for your reply and last thing do I need to have the product in order to make a RU-vid video or can I just talk about it without having the product?? Cause i am just starting out!!And some companies like Apple I tell you that you should make sure but the vie and some companies like Apple I tell you that you should make sure you type not affiliated with apple and stuff like that!! So us there anything else i need to know before i post videos!!
There is also a battery drain with newer drivers, where the NVidia GPU isn't going into power saving mode and hovering at 300mhz idle. Driver issue when switching graphics causing a black screen between the Vega and Nvidia. The major issue with this is the fact you can't really thermally control the laptop without 3rd party software, because either Asus or AMD decided in a gaming ROG product to not allow undervolting/TDP control/proper fan curve control/and BIOS locked the CPU.
Hi unfortunately i have only the anime matrix versions in my regions...either way , I'm planning to buy this laptop. i'm just confused on which one- should i get the 4800hs with gtx1660 gpu and 32gb ram 1080p screen? or the 4900hs rtx2060 gpu and 16gb ram 1440p display? i don't game that much but i need the raw power for 3d rendering which is cpu task, not a gpu. the 4800hs is cheaper by 150$
There isn't a 4k model is there? 1080p vs 1440p is easy: you decide if you mostly game, or mostly use other tasks. For productivity, the 1440p is just nicer, and imho worth $150 more if you mostly work.
I think that they should have put in just a couple more minutes into the thought of the anime matrix LED cover. They're on the right track of changing the style and appearance of laptops trying something new. However, if they were going to do it, then they should have gone all out and done it the right way by using rgb lighting for both the LED cover, and the keyboard instead of just plain white. They just gave their (brilliant) idea to all of the other companies who are in the industry, racing to build the best laptops and become the number 1 in the laptop building race.
Are you sure that Anime Matrix costs 500$? Online I've seen a difference of around 50 to 100$, depending on configuration, between the non-Matrix and Matrix models.
Yeah, I just bought it in New Zealand and there was barely a premium for the LED front. It was simply included in the Ryzen 9/RTX2060 version, which cost ~USD$300 more than the Ryzen 7/1660ti version...
I just looked at US and NL prices (MSRP and retail, where possible) but it's possible it's different elsewhere. Prices are just a complete mess atm with limited stock.
@@TechTesters true, it is almost impossible to find it on stock at the moment and to make a proper comparison, but 500$ for some led cover that kills your battery life would be insane.
Indeed the dutch prices may be different as we have 21% VAT added in cost, believe all models have around a 500 dollar price difference. which shouldnt be just the ledcover. even the price difference between white and gray is 100 euros.
@@OlafvanEss I was actually looking at prices in the UK, Germany and Romania. There are some models with the same configuration where the colour white is the same price as grey+Anime, so you are actually paying nothing extra for the LEDs.
With all the complaints concerning the backlight design, I was waiting for a review of the dark version which would, presumably, not be afflicted. Thanks for this, it's been very helpful.
@@TechTesters I meant the keyboard backlight, sorry. As you mentioned int he review, the uniformity isn't particularly brilliant, but it looks to be a considerable improvement over the light version.
Good review. One point that mismatch with the market the 2060 R7 4800HS costs 1499€, 1599€ with Anime Matrix Display that I bought last month. So it is not 500$ more for that just 100$-100€ for that extra feature.
Bestbuy is running an early Black Friday special on the G14 with Ryzen 9, 16gb ram, RTX 2060, 1tb nvme, 1080p 120hz display for $1200 in North America. Ordered one last night.
You can upgrade one dimm to higher capacity and if it’s the same type but higher capacity, you should get dual channel memory till the first slotx2 gb after that much mem is used, the rest will be single channel
If somebody wants a Productivity Laptop and does not need huge Graphics Horse Power, the lowest end version with Ryzen 7 4800HS (35W TDP), 8GB Ram, 512GB PCIe SSD and a GTX 1650 GDDR6, priced at just $999 in most of the times at BestBuy, is the best option. You can easily upgrade the Ram to 16GB by just adding one 8GB module, can even go for a 16GB or 32GB module, totaling 24GB and 40GB respectively and it still runs at Dual Channel Flex mode. That literally obliterates the Razer Blade Stealth with its anemic i7-1065G7 which costs $1499, same as the higher spec G14 with RTX 2060 MQ. In fact, the budget version beats the big boys like XPS 15 latest version. The display is 60 Hz FHD but has same quality, brightness, color gamut coverage as the 120 Hz model.. I recently picked up a Certified Open Box from my local BB and am amazed. The battery life while watching Video from Amazon Prime, can actually go close to 10 hours on this model as it has less powerful GPU.
Well, it depends on what kind of productive work we are talking about. I ordered one for my physics degree and part of that are particle simulation and deep learning which you absolutely need at least a RTX 2060 for. Otherwise you do not get the tensor cores/DLLS.
Picked the $1450 model up as a Open-Box Satisfactory condition. Pleasantly surprised to see that it still had a lot of plastics and no issues whatsoever so far. No backlight bleeding, some unevenness on the keyboard backlight but not as bad as I have seen. I plan to upgrade the RAM in the future, but this suffices so far.
Hi! :-> May I ask if there is a noticeable difference between the Ryzen 9, RTX 2060 and the Ryzen 9, GTX 1660 Ti variants? Hahaha and if the difference isn't that significant, will the performance be exactly the same in a Ryzen 7 and a Ryzen 9 unit (both with GTX 1660 Ti)? Thanks in advance
I am actually writing this comment from G14 R9 2060 lol It is an amazing laptop! The battery life is great and it crushes gaming!!! The only thing you need to do is to disable the Turbo boost mode so it doesn't run so hot.
Thánh Review to be honest I haven’t noticed it. There were a bunch of driver and firmware updates when I first opened it up a week ago so perhaps it was fixed.
Really wish they didn’t put that gimped screen on it, no point in having 144hz when response time of pixels is 40ms, which means with 3db rise time you’re averaging around 50hz without ghosting
All of the ryzen 9 4900hs+rtx 2060mq models have AniMe display? Im about to buy one for 2000$ (600.000 HUF in hungary) and i don't know if im gonna get one with the AniMe :/
Just got the 1080p 120hz version with out the anime matrix display for $1150 I actually prefer the extra fps rather than the resolution on such a small screen.
Missing the home/end/pUp/pDown keys really is a dealbreaker for me as a developer. Perhaps the G15 will be a better option, if they ever become available in Europe. Still waiting for decent laptops to come out since the Ryzen 4000 mobile announcement at CES.
same specs with AniME would cost not 1700-1800 eur but over 2k here in France. What a shame! Normally, not in a pandemic situation, I can book a 2 ways flight to US, buy it from bestbuy and go back to France.
I have the model below your's with the 4800HS processor and I'm more than happy with my choice. I initially bought a Dell XPS 15 but returned it within a week because the XPS kept crashing and freezing. Not good! My Zephyrus is going to be used for photo and video editing. Power wise, its not that far behind my desktop with its Ryzen 3900x processor. I can't believe that the GPU in my laptop is just as good if not a tad more powerful that my desktop's RX580 GPU. I am exceptionally happy with my new toy.😊
@@TechTesters For a bit of fun you could put this laptop head-to-head with a desktop computer just to show the power of this bit of kit? I've seen just about every review of this laptop and how it stands up to other laptops, but nobody has pitted the Zephyrus G14 against a middle-of-the-road desktop computer. I'm betting that it could match an AMD Ryzen 3700 desktop and blow away quite a few intel processors as well.
@@sarahashun1180 Hello, my version has the 2060. It was advertised with 2 RAM slots but that was probably a typo, and a shame because that would have been the cherry on the top.
I can agree this laptop is perfection, lighting on keyboard is only useful at night though kinda bright when super dark. Matrix display total flex, love it. I have the 1080p screen with 120hz its super smooth and quality is still 10x better than other 1080p screens ive seen. Remove the matrix display this laptop is a bang for your buck.
When the g14 comes with 16gb ram that means that it is dual channel right? since 8gb is the upgradable one and the other one being on the other side of the motherboard.
Oh I love that ASUS ROG is really playful of there laptop design! That is really nice touch up of the AniME Matrix LED cover, I like it! #ASUS #ROG #G14
Asus Zephyrus g14 laptop is hell of a beast.(chota packet bada dhamaka) * Its premium look is mesmerising. * Display seems to be on a accurate side which was seriously missing in Asus TUF series. * Hell of a gaming beast with Rtx 2060 graphics though this variant doesn't have 120hz feature. * AniMe Matrix makes the laptop even more attractive. * It really seems to be world's most powerful 14-inch laptop as it's owner says. My favourite feature would be animé matrix and the huge gaming modules which are loaded into that small unit. that's hats off!!🔥 And the portability!! 🙌 Don't know anyone noticed or not but it's easy to take with you as it's battery back up is good and more than that it supports 65watt type C charging and it weighs only 1720grams , that's far to light I guess when it's come to gaming laptop. Can u please giveaway this laptop please, I badly need 😓 That's really a great portable laptop . This feature makes Asus Zephyrus g14 Even more top notch laptop. I wish I could buy it I had that much bucks!!! I hope you like my comment gift me one!! But If not still the Asus Zephyrus g14 rocks!!
I wish the build quality was better, with better keyboard lighting, larger trackpad, and smaller bezels. This thing costs more than $2000 where I live, pricing is terrible.
Those Cosmo lights on the front looked static for a moment and I was like, “must’ve taken a long time to get each of those LEDs a specific color across the entire front.” Looks really good.
I picked up the RTX2060/4800HS/120hz it came with the LED cover but the price was virtually the same. I also wanted the 2060 with the 120hz screen, much more of a sweetspot for me, for such a small laptop 4k is overkill and so many more pixels to push for the 2060, the 1080p panel will give far better frame rates/benchmarks with less heat.
Its in my opinion just an amd vs intel thing. If you want amd go for g14, intel m15. Amd offers greater cpu power and battery while the m15 offers more gaming power and is 15inch
If I get a couple more, I might. Hard to do though, models/prices vary so much per region. what's best to buy really depends on where you are, and the day of the week xD
the version without led with these specs wasn't even available here, only the topmodel was on pre-order available here. So im not sure about the whole price-difference. So you re quite limited on what is being offered to your local retailers, the basic model with 120hz and a gtx vidcard is here around 1500 without the led. but weaker CPU, half of the storage space.
The battery life is actually good but apparently Asus software is draining battery in the background. Great Review!! Edit.. again! : Also yes QHD does hit the battery a bit more**
I have the G14 ryzen 7, 2060 max q and 120hz this has the dot matrix. The dot matrix is not only for the qhd version, however, I’m in the UK so perhaps it’s different in other countries
@@TechTesters great thanks. I'm doing lots of research on this one. Can't decide though between Ryzen 7 and intel i7 2060. I believe I've seen a couple test where the difference isn't that big. But I'm not a gamer, I'm a designer and do 3d work. I'm coming from Mac and want try a Windows machine again. Yet I don't want to throwout big money on the first try
Depends on the specs and prices, what you do with it and if you prefer a smaller or larger laptop. Both can make sense, but it depends on what you actually do.
