Windows 11 is a dog. After promising that Windows 10 was the last version, MS tried to convince users to buy new hardware to upgrade to.....the same OS with a minor graphical update. They didn't anticipate that users were smart enough to reject this ploy. Now MS is stuck constantly updating a "new" OS hovering at only 26% of the Windows marketshare while constantly fearmongering to Windows 10 users, who make up 70% of their userbase. 10 year old hardware can run Windows 11 just fine, yet MS wants you to increase e-waste and throw out your old PC. MS still thinks they're the only kid on the block with an OS. Times have changed. We don't need MS.

Yeah, 2016 i have bought a i7 6700K that isn't supported on Win 11, even if my Mainboard does software based TPM 2.0 i can't install it. It runs perfectly for Media, Office, and with a RTX 3060 it would even run a lot of modern games more than sufficient. The best thing would be if environmental groups or the EU would realize the impact of this topic and the amount of waste Microsoft will create and start to pressure Microsoft. We talk about millions of computers becoming waste, even if their performance is still more than enough. It would be laughable if Microsoft will be allowed to block million intact PCs from WIN 11, while smartphone manufacturers have to implement USB-C because three different cables are too much, even when most of those cables won't survive much longer than 5 year anyway.

Microsoft shot itself in the face when it decided that many computers would not be able to upgrade. Many people have not 'upgraded' to Win11 because they can't. With the only option to buy new computers, many are just not going to upgrade at all. I have Win11 on one computer and I hate the damn thing. Windows XP was bloated, insecure garbage and put the word rootkit in common everyday vocabulary. It was the last version of Windows I used before switching to Linux, and it was absolutely full of flaws and poor design all around. It could have been better, or at least less bloated, if Microsoft didn't take all the extra garbage they put in ME and shove it in XP. IMO Win98/98SE were probably the best versions of Windows, because they didn't have all that garbage installed, and were reasonably "stable" (if you could even use that word) for being in the Win9x line.

Even though Windows can be a pain in the ear, as a computer Engineer, I have pulled an extensive set of tools that come from various Open Source sources that are extremely effective so that even with the fact that Win10 support is going away it's not that big of a deal especially if you consider to do a hardware firewall over a software firewall also if you set your system32 folder to read only that will help tremendously. Linux Distros are fine and Win 10 has Linux built right in... But you have to enable it yourself. Also Knoppix is still a good "start anything live" platform. You can consider also to plugging an external drive into your system and storing your data to that and unmounting / unplugging the drive after you're done for the day. There's many ways to keep your stuff to yourself

think about it: what you are saying is if Ford allowed self-driving system to be installed in a 1969 Mustang if would be the leader in cars. There is only one problem: the hardware in the Form can't handle a self-driving system. Same with our computers. You can't take a complicated processed that requires a fast processor and integrated systems and just expect it work in a computer that wasnt built for it. As some point it comes a time to change IF you want to keep up. If not, you have other options.

I''ve been using 11 since the beta (I am sure you have too), and it's been awesome, a little different, still awesome. As its gotten older it's gotten better. If you do plan on updating, surely you already know but never upgrade, always do a clean install. This will perform the best and be MUCH more stable. You mention the Task Manager is back... it was never gone. It did look a little different, but it wasn't gone.

for me i just hate the layout of everything on windows 11, my family has windows 11 on their computer and sure it seems stable i just wish they gave the option to basically change layouts freely, or if there is i dont know about it since i rarely use their pc. Mine is still windows 10

@@TheJc1192 I totally get it, I didn't like it at first (also makes old macros not work) but you get used to it, but you can move it, there are also programs to move things and make it just like 10. Even as of recently, built into Windows 11, and then programs like Stardock's Start 11. I keep it looking like it does since my day job, I do support, I need it to look like the people's environment i work with so that I don't forget. Sadly with support ending, a move to 11 or 12 is recommended, since this is what channel is on, I stay on the latest. Liron also does great "How to's" on it.

Hope to see you in Linux land late next year. Its not as bad as you think. SteamOS should be ready in Late 2025, now that Nvidia NVK driver is improving quickly, this does leave out Nvidia users pre RTX 2000/GTX 1600 series though. If you have AMD or Intel it should be smooth moving over at that point though. We have Davinci Resolve for Video editing and lightworks. REAPER, Bitwig and now Studio One for audio workstations. Photopea and Krita and GIMP for image editing/painting. Also, many other software and Steam and heroic for gaming. Its not the Linux of 20 years ago. Archlinux FTW, although Linux Mint or Fedora might be a better fit for first timers.

We moved from Windows to Linux about 10 years ago. My laptop was first. I'm the computer guy, so I wanted to experiment with Linux and had dual boot. Eventually, Linux is my main OS, with Windows 11 as a virtual machine. Our desktop got malware and the malware was encrypting files. I had enough of the hoops to jump through for security, so that's when I replaced Windows with Linux. My spouse was never computer savvy, and does very basic things, so I showed him that everything he did would basically be the same. No complaints!
