In this video, we roll over Collins' BMW E30 and proceed to fabricate a new inner wing using only sheet metal. We successfully create the entire inner structure using basic tools and time.
This tutorial is dedicated to restoring a classic BMW. As with all classic car restorations, we continually discover more rust, making this nearly a comprehensive guide on how to restore classic cars.

Beautiful work. I worked 40 years as a toolmaker, but I was always pants at sheet metal work. It looks hard to get right, but the truth is it is even harder than it looks. Bending allowances, heat distortion when you weld it, jagged edges ready to slice your hand with cuts that always became infected - especially stainless steel for some reason. I was surprised to see those Gilbow snips. That will be hard work and everything seems to have got easier since I retired in 2004. Angle grinders with cut-off wheels, all manner of cheap as chips Chinesium tools - I am better equipped in retirement that I was when Ford Motor Co bought my tools. I would have expected cordless nibblers, , but I can imagine how strong his grip must be. Just don't give him the evil eye while shaking his hand, because you'll walk away with a fist full of broken hand bones.

An old family friend, long passed, was an expert sheet metal worker restoring antique cars. To see him fashion new body panels from a flat sheet using hammers and various rollers was amazing, even though I was only about 10 or 12 at the time. He also used to restore suits of armour for several of the castle collections in England. Such a shame this is a dying art.

I learned this "Job" in Germany. Kinda (Bodywork and vehicle construction mechanic? :D). It is split into 3 Subcategories but i think they changed it back to one in all. I mostly did new stuff and special order Vehicles. Later i lived in Iceland a while and that was great. A lot of improvising on the fly. You could do so much more, because germany is really restictive and has a lot of rules when it comes to Cars and Bodyworks. But this can be nice aswell of course. And safer. But i always wanted to work on oldtimers and youngtimers. When i was the apprentice, an E30 was already an older car, but super affordable. Had two guys driving E30 1.8is (not regular 1.8i) and they bought em for under 2k. Weird times. Nice times. Great work there, i could not look at all of it but i was a bit thinking about this work. Even later i worked for Audi, repairing Accidentcars. Man i hated these bullshit Platiccars. Of course not everything is awful to work on more modern cars, but a lot of it is just corpo bullshit. That has been there since ... i was talking about how noce it was to see some metal sheet work on a car body. Not that i do not consume tons of other Car content Stuff here on YT, but this is still nice to look at when one has done stuff like this before. Oh, i am way younger than you, so this is even more great. I haven't worked since the end of 2017 because of getting ill.
