You could try practicing. That's what real men used to carry. My father carried a J frame for 40 years and could put 5 in the cardiac ring from 7 to 15 yards without even thinking about it.
@@THOMASONEILL-k4h I started on a revolver and my grandpa’s 1911 45 that he carried into war. I can handle a revolver just fine, and they are good guns and you can 100% be accurate with em, but that grip and grip angle on that particular one in the video is hideous in my opinion. That’s definitely NOT a gun you’d see John Wayne or Clint Eastwood taming the Wild West with, that’s all I’m sayin 🫡
@@THOMASONEILL-k4hTHIS! Got about 1200 rounds through my j frame. By far the most difficult gun in my collection to master. Still working my best at it
@@tmutantfacts any bigger rounds gonna knock that gun out ur hand wit that grip u gotta really think how tight ur grip will actually be when shit hits the fan rather
Not a bitch at all. I have shot my entire life, and 13 years of it in the Army and also in both military and civilian competitions. That tough guy shit goes out the window when a weapon becomes painful to fire.
When people suggest revolvers to inexperienced shooters I cringe. They end up hitting the ground 5 feet in front of them and to the left (if they are right handed), or they short stroke.
@@Joe-hz1nw Yup, or they just can't pull the trigger in DA without having a wonky grip lol. I love revolvers but they have a learning curve if you didn't start with them.
@@Revolt29 and even if you have many years of practice and shoot them well, you can switch over to semi autos and objectively shoot them faster with similar accuracy. I’m all for anyone who wants to carry a revolver. They are adequate for most self defense scenarios. But on the clock and capacity wise they lose and the pros people cite* don’t outweigh those cons. *they still definitely have a place for the woods still (moose, bear, handgun season for hunting, etc.)
I had that grip on my 637 for a while years ago. Once you get used to it, it works pretty well. I ended up going back to regular grips a couple years later because it interfered with some of the hosters that I wanted to use and because literally everyone who saw it had something stupid to say and it just got old after a while. Was it my favorite grip? No. But it does work.
As a gun guy it gets real old hearing unsolicited advice and opinions, JR high fashion shows and adult suburban keeping up with the Jones. Started keeping my lifelong passion to myself, even online for the most part. I want to ask these goofies though, what the fuck does his revolver grip got to do with you?
@@MatthewVerellenYup. Really ruins the hobby sometimes. It also turns off new shooters. I've gotten into it with people insulting new shooters choices of guns and gear.
640 is awesome 💯🎯🇺🇸👍👍 really fun guns to shoot. Great balance. Small but got some weight to soak up recoil and the extra length on the grip for pinky wrap. Sweet shooters. Love a nice s&w revolver 🇺🇸👍👍
I have EDC'd semi-auto for the longest time, and recently picked up a lightly used Chiappa Rhino 20DS. I often rotate between guns for EDC (I practice with all of them regularly), but the Chiappa comes with me more and more. It shoots .357 Mag like it's 38 SPL and it's loud to fire and scary to look at. I found it exceptionally comfortable to carry, and while it's not as accurate as a semi-auto, it's probably my favorite carry gun.
CCW is always an interesting topic to debate with the right kind of characters present. I’d love to see a good debate if revolvers vs these smaller edcs with similar capacities to a revolver are still relevant guns to carry. The exception to that is the g26. Like the OG g43, shield, a small carry 5-6 shot like that, & some of these super small carry guns that aren’t junk should all be compared to each other & see if they are still relevant to the ccw game or today. I think this would be a great video.
Both can be great if the owner trains with and knows how to use it. In thousands of cases john at active self protection has never seen a private citizen self defense case require a reload so 5 to 8 shots in a revolver, single stack micro, or even a 1911, is nearly always enough to get the job done. 80-90% of crooks run like hell the second they see any gun pulled hence why most defensive gun uses have 0 shots fired. I like revolvers because in surprise and choas of self defense situation might be hand to hand and can fire while pressed into someone (actually causing more damage to stop them) if you press a semi into someone its out of battery it wont fire even 1 shot, or you can get limp wrist causing stove pipe, catch on hand or clothes can mess with slide cycling etc. Revolver I know I have my 8 shots ready any time little worse trigger but trained and got used to it. Not going to reload. I have trained enough I know 8 spicy self defense rounds will be enough or no amount will. Til then i dont feel under gunned at all with an 8 shot wheel gun. Its got one more then my buddies original shield but its firing IMHO a better round 😅 but the main thing is people carry every day and train. If you dont do that nothin else really matters it its not on you or you cant successfully use it if and when needed
I'm very much ok letting everyone else own and carry those older guns, but I won't use them anymore. My old Sig P938 SAS sits unused in my desk drawer at work. I haven't thought about that thing in weeks, until now.
This reminds me that I need to practice more with my M&P 340. I used to bring it every time I went to the range and shoot 10-20 rounds… need to get back to that. It is difficult to shoot, and full house .357 Magnums are NOT happening. Still, it’s the best pocket carry gun for me.
You should check out the Ruger LCP Max and the Galloway trigger for it. Makes an awesome pocket pistol. Also I'd rather hit my target 11/13 times (depending on the mag I have in it) with 380 than miss 5 times with 357 mag
I carried a S&W 649 for some years and loved it! Generally speaking i love most S&W weapons! Had a 629, 649, ans a Sheild performance center 9mm and all 3 were fantastic guns! I miss them all!
@@ColeDedhand I've carried a J-frame for years, a 442 no-lock. I used to carry a couple Safariland speedloaders too. While I like the factory boot grip, its almost impossible to use them with that grip because of the thickness. So I put some really nice wood grips on it from Altamont. Their classic style in engraved, checkered rosewood. I did thin the left panel at the top for clearance & re-lacquered it. They make the overall carry experience nicer being thin & light. The most comfortable carry ive ever had. Its been tuned up also. A spring set, I think Wilson Combat, C&S extended firing pin, SDM cylinder latch & XS big dot front sight. Its a lot smoother and easier to shoot.
Yeah, i fell for that delta grip too... sucks to shoot, has stayed in a box for years. Had a 340 too.... sold it for 442 to backup my G26 and G17 backup mag...AND another Glock, lol. (Its crazy how much those 340s are)
@@finish_my_projectseveryones hands are a bit different. I like the stock grips way more personally. Or extended 640 style long round butt j frame grip that adds extra for pinky
@@finish_my_projectsI always thought this would be cool and slash split times for a snub but now in my carpal and tendonitis years I think I better not even try
Had to scroll some way before someone pointed this out. I feel like I need at least three vaccine booster shots just looking at it. It's a weapon that can kill both by shooting it and as a biohazard. If you needed this weapon in the dark you could find it by following the smell of cheese. When you Google Image "smegma" you get a picture of this gun. You don't need a serial number to find the registered owner, you can just leave it out in the sun and it'll grow a half clone of the owner out of it like Kuato from Total Recall.
Each person has their own gun some do mods for themselves only.Ive totally changed a Taurus G2 from a cheapo into a dead on performance handgun and accuracy is key.
I've got that on my LCR. Doesn't seem to be available anymore. You can still find that Delta grip for the J-frame. It helps with concealability, and makes it a little easier to handle the recoil impulse from magnum rounds; .357 .327 etc.
I have this exact setup with the ergo grip. The only difference is I had it ported so I get a nice fireball when I use .357. Tames the recoil nicely. Of note...I have experience bullet creep when I used 125 grain magnums because the gun is so light. I stick with 158 grain or more frequently, 38 wad cutters.
@@countryboy9546he probably pocket carries that may be from less then a week of carry heck maybe a day. I clean my gun 2 or 3x a week before and after range at least 1 range trip a week, but i get hair/lint built up in just a day or two. I carry for 16 hrs+ a day, and have cats so dust, lint furr etc get in it, but it runs every time I get to range even when I opt not to clean it pre range to see how itd shoot initial shots as if i was carrying
I own a 360 pd. I haven't seen a black barrel before, it's made from Ti. The original grip is quite small and at 11.4 oz with .357 full power she is a hand full to shoot.
I carry an LCRx 3". I put the same kind of grip on mine. More concealable, absolutely. Still keep my entire hand on the grip, yes. Comfortable to shoot still? Yes. Still hit my targets? Totally. All that matters! Did take maybe a dozen rounds to transition, no big deal. Knew I'd either love or hate this grip. Really inexpensive, but performs like a star. I love it!
I had a 642 (38spc only version). I loved that thing. Going to replace it with the 340pd soon. I would not like that grip at all. I got good with the factory grip and it was incredibly easy to conceal
A humble reminder to us all. Accuracy with another’s carry pieces can be problematic. Particularly with double action wheel guns and (my personal challenge) super light semi autos.
What finish would you suggest? I think its a black nitride or black annodization of the alloy. Not sure what would wear less genuinely asking what you think would be better? Cerakote or something else?
Those Delta Grips only fit the round butt J-Frames. I bought one for my Model 36 and couldn't use it. It fills the sinus, which is the area between the back of the Trigger Guard and the Grip, to prevent middlefinger bite of larger hands upon recoil. I put a Pachmayr on the 36, and it works great.
I'm with you! That grip wouldn't cut it for me either, but if it works for Tony, that's good. I'll stick with my 637 Airweight with factory grips. It shoots amazingly well, especially SA (yes, it has a hammer, I'm not a fan of the hammerless models).
You ever try hogue tamer or mono grip? Kinda defeats purpose of carrying a smaller gun like a j frame but they are pretty accomodating to even XL+ hands. I've also met guys who are 6'8" who can hit targets at 80 yards with a stock 642 with the short round butt grips with no pinky
@@russellpost9112if you are really set on the 360, those options may make it easier to handle. My wife needed larger grip for j frame (her nails would dig into her own hand with stock boot grip) the extra real estate on hogue mono grip was just enough to prevent that issue, and gives her full 3 finger grip with bottom for pinky. Got mine for 25 bucks on amazon easy enough to install myself. Now she shoots 🎯🎯 with it 👍👍
I have a 360PD, same thing but with an exposed hammer. Love that gun. Ive never seen this grip but ergo makes the best AR-15 grip Ive ever tried so Ill probably have to give this a shot.
That pistol is almost like the one that I carry. I have a Ruger LCR 38 5 shot and I love it. It's accurate and reliable, the recoil is not bad and it's easy to conceal. I would like to see you or someone do a review on it and see what you think about the Ruger LCR 38 and if you think that it's as fine a revolver as I believe it is
They are solid if you are looking at one for your self. They work reliably and 9mm is common ammo. Revolvers are still plenty viable for modern carry for non uniform citizens. People love them, the reviews show they kick ass. And its affordable. Might be cool to rent one side by side with an lcrx 9mm to see if the extra cost is justified or not. Both make darn good revolvers tho. Get one. Train with it, carry it every day 🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍
I had seen those grips several years back and said , NOPE. I carry a 638 Airweight with a trigger job, and factory Crimson Trace grips ( the long grip model) even without the laser, its the best grip I have ever shot on a J frame… the air pocket cushioned backstrap makes the hottest +P .38 Special painless to shoot. The long version grip gives your pinky a place on the grip, and still works just fine with a pocket holster. I use the Galco Horsehide ridged pocket holster.
I have a model 649. It's pretty much the same, but mine has a bobbed hammer, so you can single or double action shoot it. That is the weirdest grip I've EVER seen. It's an assault potato!😂😂
There is spring kits to lighten it but that would make me worry about reliability. Ive gotten used to / broken in all my triggers and as ive shot them more and get used to it, my hand and brain get more skilled as the gun gets more broken in and easy to shoot. Worth training regularly with til its 2nd nature. J frames are amazing tools 🇺🇸👍🎯
my buddy has that grip on a scandium frame 357 mag and it completely changes the recoil. it felt tamer than my G33 in spite of being way smaller and lighter. I would definitely buy that grip if I carried a j frame.
It cycled first 10 rounds. For an edc ccw, thats all a j frame can really be asked. Not many folks carrying more then 1 speed loader. So 10 shots is about all this will really ever fire at the MOST in defensive use
I have the 360. I don’t mind, even like big guns with big recoil (ie SW500 or SW460) but I REALLY don’t like shooting the 360! I’ve even tried that funky grip hoping it would at least make it tolerable, but nope.
I get the no hammer spur because in a self defense scenario you’ll be DA… but Elijah Dickens scenario or something similar, I want the option to go SA. I carried my 605 today because I wore sweatpants but “I’ve only got 5 rounds” kept going through my head. Loaded with Speer gold dots 38+P but 5 rounds… My 627 is too big and heavy even for arrowhead sweats. I was in a hurry.
My wife carries a sig 9 mm rose and i carry a sig 9mm with wilson combat grips. Both 17rd clips and standard night sights. Both work flawlessly, compact and never leave our sides. Cheap insurance as long as you pay your monthly premium ( meaning you practice regularly)
