I think what helps me is remembering how I was homeschooled. We sat on the couch and did our worksheets. It wasn't until my high school years that I had a real desk😂 But, I never felt that I lacked anything. The kitchen table, coffee table, and anywhere in the house were used as a schoolroom. School rooms are nice, but it won't make or break your homeschool. ❤

I was public schooled as well. Didn’t enjoy it but I enjoy learning. I like to be a minimalist type of homeschooler. We use the couch and dining room table.😊 “Your child’s’ worse day of homeschooling is a better day, any day than in public school.” Love this!

Great video! My children and I do our work on the couch, floor, at the table, in the car, at the park.... Wherever we feel like it that day. No fancy decorations, baskets, shelving. I have memory pages taped to my walls lol. It works.

Lol, the rolling carts jab. Im cracking up! Just found your incredibly informative channel tonight, as I begin my prep for my soon to be 7th and 8th grade boys for high school. You are knocking some of the most veteran and well-known YT homeschool influencers out of the park on this subject. THANK YOU!!!

I appreciate the sentiment behind this video. Often you will hear the apparently flawless influencer say they didn't start out with x y z--but they do have it now. I get a little discouraged sometimes that I'm 7 years into homeschooling and my house looks more a hot mess now than it did when I started, and I still can't afford all the things that would make my life more asthetically pleasing and therefore less stressful. Part of that boils down to having children with different needs and personalities, and part of it is just different stages of life. I still don't have a homeschool room and perfect bookshelves, or a single decent clutter free place for a photo backdrop, but I have a different set of responsibilities now that take up time and resources. I miss my spotless bathrooms and my freedom to choose when to wake up in the morning, but like everything else in life, there are pros to every con, if we can learn to focus on them.

I post a lot of homeschooling stuff on IG. I'm not an influencer and only share with my friends. They have commented how they wish they had their homeschool more put together like I do. I always respond no one ever posts their bad homeschool days, only the good. Comparison is a joy thief. No homeschool is better than another, only different.

Thank you so much for sharing this!!! We’ve been doing kitchen and couch and bedroom homeschooling since we started and sometimes when I see the pretty spaces I feel like I’m doing something wrong and not giving my kids something they need. This was such an encouragement for my ears! ❤

Thank you so much for this! I got sucked into the RU-vid idea that I had to have the perfect set up when I first started out. Once I realized that it was a lot of show, a weight was lifted. Thanks for the real talk.

♥️ This video is so necessary for all us mamas. Thank you for transparency . I have had to clean up who I am subscribed to on the tube and follow on IG. It’s so easy and way fast to become consumers of “the pretty and unrealistic way of life “ through the accounts of many on social media . I got so lost in that and it was hindering me as a mom and homeschooler to my kiddos . Thankful for channels like yours it’s a breath of fresh air and relatable 🌻🌻🌻🌻.

Thank you for your candor on this topic. This is a good perspective for how to view social media in general. Most only use social media as a high light reel of their best sides and good moments. Rarely do we see the daily grind or reality of people’s lives. So it’s no use and no fair comparing yourself to someone’s best side of themselves. Thanks for keeping it real!

So true. We are inviting thousands of people into our homes during our videos, so we clean what people will see, we take showers and put on make up. But we're busy working moms and things don't look perfect behind the camera and friends can tell the difference between a filming day and a regular day.

My personal annoyance. Oh, I will link this and this. Ok, not everyone can afford a 400.00 expresso machine, Cricut, Apple Tech everything. I'm on a coffee mate, scissors, and a refurbished tech budget.

What also helped me was after I watched Judy Arnall. She was able to unschool her 4 (out 5) children all the way to University (I believe one went to college). How she didn’t even have a boxful of curriculum or year packed with plans. I realized that pouring into them sometimes could be enough. We are balancing actual homeschooling with unschooling or minimalist mindset. Im not going to fret if we cannot finish the workbook or cannot afford lessons or field trips. I appreciate you taking the time to share your invaluable lessons & tips. I understand you want to be presentable as you are opening up your life and home to us. It takes dedication to review materials, record and edit videos. Keep it up! 😊

I absolutely love your attitude about things! We are new to the homeschool world by 2 years. Pulled our son out after "covid." And I started my own youtube channel for our journey from public school to homeschool. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video!

I love this! I nearly started what I call "The Dirty Toilet" ministry....with plans to upload photos of my own house when it's MESSY!! It's so easy to be discouraged by all the "perfect" photos or stories on social media. Thanks for all your content and real talk!

I send my child to a private Christian school, but i have a coworker who homeschools and i admire her so much,we work nights at a bakery and she puts in 40+ hr weeks and sometimes brings her 2 kids along and teaches them there. They sit in the bulk bags of flour to do thier lessons, then get to sample our cookies. My coworker is a patient loving mom and i think that is the most important thing to be as a homeschooler.

We all know you shoved a bunch of stuff on the floor 😂. I do 🤫. I do videos/ IG and I’m real. I make $0 so far. It’s our journey. I do have a spot I can sit and film. We don’t have all the fancy boards & maps allover the place. We don’t have a desk 🤯. I have a bookshelf, a few books, and a printer. I try to help new people not to be overwhelmed. Never compare yourself!!! Keep making videos 🙏👏👏👏

Yes, girl!! That’s the pure truth. :) We’re just ordinary moms like everyone else with a messy homeschool room or dinning rooms tables, it just doesn’t get caught up on the camera most of the time. 😂 Love that you keep it real, Mandy!!

My homeschool day could never be what people would want to see online. We just school at the table as a family. We use a lot of hand me down curriculum! We just don’t write in the books, we use paper and pencils instead of writing in books. We live in a very small home so we don’t have space for much but we make it work! You can homeschool in small spaces with little curriculum!

I desire a nice homeschool space for my children; but I do know in my heart that isn't the root of joy in homeschooling or their quality of education. It's kind of like pursuing the materialism of homeschool world vs the things that really bring growth in our children. Doesn't mean you can't have them or its bad to have them; but knowing they arn't the things that make for a quality family or quality growth in your children.
