Prosciutto is made from the ham or the leg and capocollo (gabagool) is made from the collar or shoulder (collo). They’re very similar just made from different parts of the pig, seasoned a little differently

Oh trust me...this is quite far from how italians speak in Italy. For example: fried "calamari" are pronounced "kah-lah-ma-ree" in italy, also in "mozzarella" you pronunce the final "a". Italo-americans speak a language more akin to "americanized" neapolitan or sicilian dialect (many people didn't speak italian in italy, but rather regional dialects, until 50 years ago or so) which strayed a bit from the original Italian pronunciation. That's Neapolitan dialect. Cutting off the last vowel at the end of the word is typical of the Neapolitan and other Southern dialects, except for Sicilinan, Calabrian and Southern Apulian. It's called "schwa" in phoenetics. Most Italian - Americans are of southern lineage and their ancestors could barely speak Italian.

No they don't. Because they're not starting from Standard Italian. They're using words from Napulitan and Sicilianu from 120 years ago, and each are like the older siblings of Standard Italian from the parent language Latin. "Leaving off" implies the language they speak is in any way derived from Standard Italian which it 1000000000% isn't

LOL. i once called a pizza place to order food and I asked for Manicotti ( i pronounced it liked its spelled- MAN EE COETTEE). The kid on the other end repeated what i said with a "corrected" pronunciation. He said ' Ok, one MAN I Got. I was dumfounded as he is trying to correct me into the bad pronunciation.

@@antoniousai1989 Yeah if you're Italian you really have no excuse to be misunderstanding this situation as badly as your comments demonstrate. Or more likely you just like deliberately misunderstanding to feel better about yourself. Read up on the history of the regional languages and consider how ridiculous the propaganda you've been taught about how Standard Italian is "proper" really is. Gabagool is antiquated Napulitan but it's in no way inaccurate/butchered/inauthentic, and capocollo frankly sounds pretty fruity, so why would someone want to say that if they could say it the way it was originally said by the people who invented it?
