I’ve been going to J&V since I’m a little kid. It used to be the best place, nothing was like it. It is still good but not like those days. I recommend Pizza Wagon for slice, Di Faras if you can stomach the wait but you MUST get the Sicilian slice at Di Fara, it is so much better than there reg slice. If you go to Totonnos get the white pizza. I also really like Lenny’s on 86 but I think that’s just a personal fav of mine.

I love that you give Bari Pork Store a shout-out while you were nearby. My dad and uncle have owned places in Bensonhurst and were good friends with a past owner there (he recently passed away).
I appreciate yr collab with Mary Jane in evaluating NYC Italian food. It is fair and accurate coming from foodies who understand food culture, tradition and history.
That is near my office and I would go there for lunch when I got the chance to go out. Yum! Am working at home now (due to COVID) far away from it. Will be back sometime!
Whether is Italian or Italian-inspired, as long as it takes good, that’s what counts 😁 I don’t get too caught up in original vs inspired, I adore fusion food in general. As long as it takes good I’ll eat it 😁
Whenever I had friends come down to Brooklyn and visit back in college I would always take them to Spumoni gardens. Now I live in Queens and I have found a great slice spot called Rosa's in Maspeth. It is a standard NY style slice, nothing crazy but they also make this Sicilian specialty called sfincione. It is a Sicilian pizza with caramelized onions and toasted breadcrumbs instead of cheese. It is something very rarely seen outside of Sicily. Also there is a place in Howard beach called New Park pizza. The regular slice is the thing to get. It isn't a normal style NY slice, it has a very interesting crust. Definitely worth a trip but it is hard to reach by mass transit.
Is that L & B on Stillwell Ave. & 86th St. ? My all time favorite was Ray's Pizza on 6th Ave. & W11th St. in NYC. They have two places on Lexington Ave. & 7th Ave. but I've hVen't tried it yet.
The ‘American’ mozzarella is also sold in Italy. Maybe she’s referring to mozzarella di bufala, that’s sold only in Italy. But we have mozzarella made with cow’s milk that is very similar, you can find farmers in the Hudson Valley that make it fresh Mozzarella di bufala is unique and sooooooo good 😍 will check out Mary Jane’s channel ❤️
Hi Lucie, you're definitely right, the American mozzarella or industrial mozzarella is sold in most supermarkets in Italy, although it's far from being as popular as the classic Italian mozzarella or fior di latte.
@@WhatashameMaryJane We do have Bison in the US, unfortunately not buffalo. Bison milk may be closer in texture to buffalo milk. However, bison is not very plentiful. So cow's milk is used instead and does not produce anywhere near the same texture as buffalo milk.
Lucie Medici and Mary Jane we have had excellent fresh mozzarella made in NYC using curd from cow’s milk. We even highlighted the whole process of the historic shop making it in our RU-vid video. L&B Spumoni garden is a good place to eat pizza in Brooklyn. They also make good sandwiches as well. I like their shrimp hero . And yes their Spumoni is unbelievable great.
I read M"Fara in the Midway section of Brooklyn is supposed to be one of the best in NYC. The pizzeria received media coverage when they were shutdown for one missed IRS payment, then Mayor de Blasio said it was his favorite pizza & 2 days later the pizzeria opened-up. The pizza looked incredible on film.
Get this man a napkin! Lol But nah for real this is an absolutely awesome video. Spumoni Gardens is my favorite but I'll have to try these others for sure!
When I was much younger, I moved to Brooklyn to be near a girlfriend and we went to Spamoni Gardens a few times a month. That spamoni is to die for, but dude, you DON’T EVER use a spoon. That’s like eating a pizza with a knife and fork. You need to lick all three flavors with your tongue🤪.
Best pizza in Brooklyn besides L & B---Lucali, Tottono, Di Fara, Del Mar, Lenny's, Da Vinci (square), Knapp Street, Frank's, Pipitone, Grandma's, Elegante, Gino's, Krispy...These are among the best in Brooklyn and I know my pizza!!!
You guys were right in my old neighborhood. I grew up right up the block on 20th. St. & 6th. Avenue. Lived there from 1955 to 1980. That was the best neighborhood to grow up in. Everyone new everyone. John's Dad, Luigi used to be a pie man at Lenny's Pizzeria on 5th. Avenue and Prospect Ave in Brooklyn. That was before he went out on his own and opened up Luigi's back in 1973. It was great for the whole neighborhood because he did make great pizzas. Crust was a little bit thicker and the slices were around 25 cents a slice but I remember first going to Lenny's in the 60's and a slice was 15 cents. Ahh....the good old days. By the way, Mary Jane is looking REAL GOOD too!
We love Luigi’s Pizza! The second-generation owner Giovanni is so sweet (wish you had a chance to meet him) and their pizza 🍕 is 💯 amazing! Thank you so much for highlighting one of our favorite under the radar spots in Brooklyn!

Great video. I love the videos from the other burroughs as well as Manhattan. The first place is deifinitely my style. I've put in on my list of places to eat when I get back. My favorite kind of pizza is thinner (not thick) crust with lot of tomoto sauce with a light amount of cheese.
Everyone loves Spumoni Garden lol. That one on 18th ave that you visited is one of my faves though. There's also one a few blocks up that my Grandmother used to love. My other 3 favorite spots in Brooklyn are Nikki's on Bath Ave, Pizza D'amore on Ave U and Knapp Street Pizza
I use to eat at L&B in the 60s and 70s...GREATEST Pizza on the planet. Back in the 60s and 70s The L&B restaurant was next door to the pizzeria...they made the best sausage and pepper Heros...The sausage use to sit on the grill in a coil....AMAZING....

I grew up one block from L&B and one time I was in the Pisa train station in Italy and got a piece of Sicilian pizza that tasted exactly like L&B. I could not believe it.
L&b’s is my family’s stomping ground for many years was good to see it again in the video. Luigi’s was very hospitable they definitely took good care of you guys. Try Totonno’s in Coney Island, Julianna’s in Dumbo, Di Fara’s.
how could you come to brooklyn and not eat at DiFara's on ave M? The old man cut fresh basil onto the newly bake pie and sprinkles it with olive oil while its still piping hot! Come on Man!!!! you havent lived yet! another place is on Flatbush and 7th, Antonio's.

But as much I have known from here watching NYC videos, you could try pizzas next from Best Pizza, Lucali, De fara's...... They are pretty good too... For the vegan twist, Screamers on Manhattan Ave and Paulie Gee's on Franklin, both in Greenpoint, are quite good (I'm not originally vegan but since getting going veg, finding a good pizza has been a quest). Both of these places have good sauces and crusts, and Screamers gets extra points for making their own tasty vegan almond ricotta! When you go to Screamers, also check out PIZZA PRINCE on Nassau - a conventional pizza old school joint. Also in Greenpoint, Russ Pizza on Manhattan Avenue. You can smell the pies coming out of the oven!
you came all the way to Bensonhurst and missed the best traditional square in Brooklyn just a few blocks away at DaVinci Pizza, also it should be a crime to leave J&V and not have their Garlic Knots which are the best in the word, the "Chicken JoJo" that they make is a killer twist on a chicken parm sandwich too
I’m in love with the the first place Luigi. Classic pizza 🍕 original the best. I grew up in the Bronx and that was the type of pizza I only knew it was the best. You can’t find pizza place outside of NYC. I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO LUIGI. THX 🙏
Hi Arlene, may I ask where in The Bronx you grew up, in which neighborhood? And how was the pizza experience there back in the days? (if it was mainly Italians making it, if it was different than the classic nyc slice today, if eating pizza was as popular as it is now...)
What a shame Mary Jane I grew up near little Italy in the Bronx, where some of the best pizza are little store front pizzerias like Luigi. Most Pizza place were run by Italian , and they brings delicious memories to me that I can almost smell the pizza. The pizza was delicious made with thin crispy dough with sweet salty sauce and stretchy cheese that melt in my mouth. I was in heaven. I live about two hours away and I tried to make the trip to find that spot in the Bronx which sadly is no longer there. Luigi reminds me of that place and I’m definitely making a special trip there. Sorry for the explicit description but there is absolutely no great pizza where I live 🤷♀️ 😂
Arlene Solis we highly recommend Luigi’s too! Giovanni (the 2nd generation owner is such a great guy)! @whatashamemaryjane and Jon...did Gio tell you that his family has a small farm in Staten Island where they grow their fresh tomatoes and herbs that they use on their pizza?
John does Brooklyn pizza and dodges Bleeker Street, is that a first? On the plus side our senses were guaranteed to be treated with Mary Jane, she is always absolutely delightful. 🍕😋🍕
@kenny kliff Pizza like everything else is subjective, but DiFara has been rated the best Pizza place in NYC many time and is always ranked in the top 10 in the US.
