Ruth Mompati’s first role as a typist in the law firm of Mandela and Tambo Attorneys put her amongst the great African visionaries of the 20th century. One of the first women to leave in exile, her involvement in the ANC would lead to 27 years away from home. During this time, Mompati expanded the movement’s international network across Africa and Europe. Upon returning, she became a member of parliament, an ambassador, and coming full circle, the mayor of her home district in Vryburg, North West Province.
