TQ should be wearing heavy duty rubber gloves when putting down chemicals when doing that you don't know what other chemicals may be mixed in with the salt and wearing the rubber gloves is to prevent chemical burns on your skin and after wards if your not wearing gloves wash you hands very good to get any residue off of them and try not to touch any exposed skin and to be careful with any clothing that gets residue on in from coming in contact with your kids and pets to prevent the same thing. You can do what you want in the end but they are chemicals and you should protect yourself kids and family from as much exposure as possbile and when entering the house remove your shoes as soo as you come in so you don't track them through the house.
As someone who lives in SE Ohio, I can truly appreciate what you do. Had 3 acres of yard to mow when I was in my 20s and 30s. Used a Lawnboy push mower.
rock salt and concrete dont mix. few years is all it takes before you start seeing quarter size craters everywhere. you need to use something like calcium chloride, more expensive but still cheaper than reducing the life of concrete walks/roads by %75+
Sounded like you had the same problem we had here near Toledo kept pushing back the transition time I think officially it was like 3 or 4 hours behind what they originally said from rain to snow but over this two day storm we officially got a little ice under the 12.7 inches of snow officially at Toledo Express airport it was a long long storm but I'm glad we had a small break in the snow where us at Bill's lawn and landscape were able to get some hot food my boss and his wife made for the guy's and get 2 or so hours of zzz's in the temporary sleeping quarters they set up. Hopefully you guys stayed safe out there.
We got a big changeover to snow from rain/sleet/ice probably all 3 at once here in S/E Michigan. We have areas that have 8" with an inch or 2 of ice underneath. Water pooled in front of my garage so I have a spot that had 4" of snow and 5 " of ice. I have to say, I believe you guys are in God's favor. You got the salt truck, the truck actually came after some up and down moments but you kept faith, then you were able to get the spreader put on and everything else came together. That sounds like something was planned for you. You know darn well if you didn't get the bulk spreader you would've been breaking bags open like a mad man! Probably 2 semi's worth now? Keep doing what you're doing and be safe, be vigilant! Anytime a person or a couple start doing well someone gets jealous and tries to prevent that! Stay safe and Prayers for you and your family!
You gotta use the calcium/potassium/magnesium/sodium blend bagged ice melt on those walkways and steps and stop wasting your time with the buckets of bulk salt… yeah it costs more but will actually last and not just refreeze instantly
Just a thought for your salt bucket(s) get an old strap, drill two holes in your bucket, fed each end of the strap into your drilled holes and knot them off. Now you have a sling for your salt bucket. I saw someone else do it here on RU-vid and have done a few of them for my guys. They seem to love them and takes the weight out of your hands. We kinda angle the bucket and kind of slap the salt out of the bucket (best way to explain it).
@@jeffgootjes8418 I said the same thing I can make it for a lot less then $40. I mean around here at Home Depot or lowes a bucket and lid runs around $5 and a pack of cheap straps at harbor freight is like $10. Mind you I have a lot of old salt buckets and useless straps so for me they where free. I’m not taking anything away from the guy that made them sand if he gets some people to buy good for him. But in my opinion $40 plus shipping is way to much for something i can make for less then half.
You need an ice chopper to help break up and clear those walks! Menards usually has them....Suncast brand #SSD7500. Once it's salted and starts to crack, the chopper clears it right off! Great content once again! All that white stuff turns green at the end of the day!
I remember you talking about needing communication. Rugged radios is something to look into. Heavy D Sparks uses them and he went down in a mine shaft and had seamless communication
We just got 14 inches of snow, but we have had a ton of freezing rain and sleet this year. I only take care of my driveway and the neighbor on each side of me but have gone through 4, five gallon buckets of salt this year, more than double of what I normally go through. On the bright side I get new buckets. lol
You really need to get you a bin and bulk store for next year, (I know, Captain Obvious here :D) You guys be careful out there, this too shall pass. I assume you guys saw the Deal with the snowplow, WKYC Channel 3 reported; A snow plow driver is on administrative leave pending an investigation after an incident Sunday along the Ohio Turnpike in Erie County involving more than 40 passenger and commercial vehicles. You following the plows on the highway made me think about it. CRAZY! Give them young ones a hug for me and God Bless.
Man I hate the ice. Y’all be careful out there and stay warm. TQ you are the trooper getting out there and getting the filming done. Nothing but rain here in Wv. but I’m sure that is gonna change. Keep up the great work y’all and again stay warm and safe and be careful!!!
Hey guys, i work for a landscaping company,, I don't watch every video of yours, but I've noticed alotta snow vids, but, how long have yall had snow and ice, I swear I've seen like a week of snow vids, I'm over here like, mannnn, we had 2 snow days, 1 the previous Saturday, and 1 last Saturday, I live in VA, I need that snow money, but from the looks of it, you ain't even hurting in the snow department or the snow money
Down in Center Texas we got snow and I was able to snow shovel very fun but it’s probably not as fun when you have to do it all winter and every year lol
I did that hitch thing for a good amount of time. That's how I started in the snow bussiness. If you are transporting a 2 stage snowblower that or a Tommy gate is the best way. Though the Tommy gate is not as economical. Now for the little I use snowblowers I just throw a single stage in the back of the pickup.
Love the videos Shawn! Ended up with 13inches with 4ft+ wind drifts on the backroads and driveways in NW Indiana… Cars are covered, it’s crazy! Glad you’re getting through it alright!
10:59 "Its paradise for me" and she said that with an almost straight face. :>) A couple hundred miles north in Hamilton, Ontario here and mostly wet, heavy, clog the chute up kind of snow. Luckily no ice.
I don't know if this will make much of a difference but you could try running the vibration while they are loading you? I've always had a small shovel with me to climb up and use to spread the salt out. That salt will ruin your clothes in a heartbeat. Maybe even like a small trowel would work.
Just finished up with the same storm in st louis. Went through 12 tons of salt....3x more than normal...2 days of hell...I'm not even sure how I'm still awake to watch this! Stay safe! You really need your own salt bin. Have you considered asking the client if you could store salt on site? I do this at one of my larger commercials and leave my Bobcat on site in the winter months. Having your own salt supply on site is a huge time saver!
Wow, we got no ice here in Seville/ Wooster area, what a difference a few miles makes. Shawn not sure if you know bout top tier gas, but sams club is not a top tier station. Basically just beware of cheaper gas as it is not up to standards of others. Pretty sure your manual for that brand spanking new truck will tell you to only run top tier gas, just sayin. Research for yourself. Keep up the great work cuz now it’s time to plow snow. Thanks guys for all ya do, love watching ur vids😊
Have you considered getting a seed/salt spreader to throw the salt on the sidewalks and pathways? I picked up a simple push one for doing my driveway and sidewalks. BTW, really enjoy watching your videos.
For your safety you guys should look into getting boots with Vibram Arctic Grip soles. They are amazing even on wet ice... You can walk on floors without inflicting damage like studded boots or strap on crampons would do. They make even Vibram's traditional lugged soles look bad in the snow and ice! When I know I'm going to be on ice constantly I have studded IceBug boots but you cannot wear those in the truck or indoors.
You both are super slick with that work! Where does the salt come from and how long does it take for the ice to melt once you have applied the salt or is that being put down to lessen the impact when the snow arrives? It would be interesting to see what a lab analysis of the ice show…..We are having 23-39 degrees C and between 78-98% humidity at the moment here on the Gold Coast Queensland! Apart form enjoyable watching you both working together it’s a cool reprieve! ❤️🇦🇺🇺🇸
We had 77 today and it was nice. Put steaks on the grill. Don't miss the Ohio winters. Charleston SC is great in the winter. My battle is the Poa annua coming up.
