Helloooo good people! Today's video is a v TMI topic of my honest copper IUD experience/IUD Insertion experience and what my thoughts are one year later! In the video I share:
+ Why I chose to go with the Copper IUD versus other birth controls methods
+ What the insertion process was like for me
+ How my body handled it the following weeks and months
+ What changes happened to my cycle once I got an IUD
+ What my period is like one year later
I also answer some of the questions I received on Instagram so with everything I hope I answered most of your questions! Of course, I didn't disclaim this in the video but alas I am not a doctor or a health care professional in any capacity and I highly encourage you all to do your own research, talk to your doctor and see what might be the best method for you! Let me know if you would like see to an updated Period Routine video as it's something that has changed quite a lot since the last time I shared one. I hope you found this video helpful if you are looking into getting an IUD yourself, or maybe send this to a friend who might want some more info too!

Please consider natural birth control, they do work really well with zero side effects. Monitoring your cervical fluid and basal body temperature will help you know when your are fertile and infertile every month which inform your decision on having safe sex. Hormonal contraceptives do have both short and long term side effects of women. In addition, there are also apps that make monitoring your fertility pretty easy. Natural birth control is an exact science, you don’t have to suffer because you are trying to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Book to read : Taking charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler . All the best. 🙂.

I recently had the copper coil inserted and I wanted to share my experience as I watched 2728822 videos about horror stories and I know everyone are different, but I had such a good experience I still cannot believe it so I wanted to share this to give a different side of the story, and hopefully encourage some other women who are struggling with the pill (I did) to give it a go. 😊

Same tbh I got it last week Thursday all these videos panicked me so much but if I felt the pain I did when getting it as a period cramp I wouldn’t take a painkiller that’s how not painful it was for me, it honestly dosnt hurt as much as people think. The clamp was as painful as a regular mild period clamp what lasts around not even 5 seconds and that’s it. It was a good experience for me too and I think there’s not one video on RU-vid where a woman hasn’t said it wasn’t the most painful thing in the world and I think that scares a lot of people from getting an iud. It scared me very much too but I was very surprised it wasn’t painfull :)

My doctor was so quick with it and gentle and thorough that I felt minimal pain tbh. He talked me through the whole thing and just made it a great experience. But then I used a heating pad and took ibuprofen which helped.

Yoooo this is my exact experience with the copper IUD. Installation wasn't bad. But night 1 was cramp city, like my painful period cramps which are usually very painful each month since I was young. I take Alleve for the cramping pains, and i use an electric heated blanket over my waist, hips, legs and feet to cut the cramping pain. The timing of my period is different in my first 2 months with this IUD - my period has been 2 weeks long instead of 1 week, and it's been showing up about 1 week earlier than the last period. That second week has days or nights of cramps in a row, with on and off period flow. I kept thinking I could get away with penetrative sex when it seemed like the flow was done but soon after the sex, the flow came back with some cramping, or crazy dryness for a day. My gyno says if the craziness doesn't subside, then we will remove it but I am hoping that I will adjust in the 3-6 month window. I'm at the end of month 2 rn.

Now I finished the 3rd period with my copper IUD - I'm back to my normal periods 😬 this week i even got an ultrasound and gyno follow up because the 1st and 2nd period were hell, but everything checks out no problems detected now. Clear for take off 🙌

Thanks so much for watching! 🥰Thats unfortunate they didn't have good experiences. Its so dependant on whats available in your area or if even your family doctor provides the service! I just got my copper iud yesterday and it’s so nice to hear your story about how it’s worked for you! I have two kids and don’t want anymore. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety and the hormonal form of bc makes me nervous to mess with anything that can affect me emotionally. I’ve seen horror stories about insertion and even a friend have one perforate her uterus but since I’m done having babies I’m not as worried about that. It literally didn’t hurt and all and I didn’t feel anything when my OBGYN put it in. I was on my period when I got it so that definitely helps since your cervix is already a little open. I definitely recommend going when you’re on your cycle!

I know everyone’s experiences are different and it depends how nervous/clenched up you are, but I just had mine put in today and I would say the discomfort was as mild as a low-key period pain day for me. Also, hardly any bleeding at all. Nothing a panty liner can’t handle. I don’t get bad cramps w/ my period anyway, but seriously it’s not bad. I think it’s hyped up to be this extremely painful thing so women walk in thinking it’ll hurt so then it’s going to hurt. Just walk in knowing you’ll experience mild discomfort, try to stay as relaxed as possible during the procedure, and you’ll be a-okay. It’s over in 5 minutes, at least for me it was. It was definitely not the “worst pain I’ve ever experienced”. Fracturing my wrist was far worse than this. So, with that being said don’t be scared and remember to relax. It’s not bad at all. :)

@@asongbirdsnature1090 Right after I got the IUD placed I was dealing with spotting as if I was on my period for about 4-5 days but that was the biggest thing that happened. I’ve had it in for 9 months or so and spotting is minimal and honestly hasn’t really been an issue for me personally. My periods are also the same as before. The one thing I’ve noticed is I have started spotting on the day I’m supposed to get my period, then I’ll get my full on period about 2 days later and it lasts 4-5 days. The cramping and bleeding is the same as before. So altogether w/ spotting and bleeding it is about 7 days total each month. I hope that helps!

So happy for this review, I’m a fan of the IUD and always vouch for it. I’ve had two insertions and experienced greatly different pain levels for both. The first was basically what you described, and the second was amazingly horrible and I almost passed out and couldn’t leave the clinic on my own. The difference was the doctors and their bedside manner, the first being wonderful and comforting and the second being gruff and fairly uncaring. I want to stress researching & finding a clinic/dr you trust if possible to anyone looking to have one inserted. Feeling comfortable during the procedure makes a world of difference!

I did for both, it does help. The usually suggest Ibuprofen. Luckily if it goes smoothly the major pain only lasts for a for a few seconds. It also helps if you get it done during your period (I think cause your cervix is more open). My advice is tell the dr/nurse inserting it that you are very nervous and hopefully they can talk you through it. Also, if they have poor bedside manner and won’t talk you through it, you have a right to leave and look for alternative practitioners.

I remember her telling me that she had to measure my cervix, and that was pretty uncomfortable, but the actually insertion was not as bad as I thought. I basically freaked myself out so much before the time, that when it happened I was like, “oh, that wasn’t so bad” 😂. I got the Paragard in the summer of 2022, and I had really light periods beforehand (3-4 days pretty light and painless before) and now with my Paragard, I probably have more like a normal period, and it’s about 4-5 heavier days with a light day, but I think it’s probably not as bad still as some women have even without the copper iud. It’s gotten better after 6 months, I’d say.
@rachelrussell5867
@rachelrussell5867 2 года назад
For anyone new coming to this video, I’ve had my paragard iud two years now. My periods went from 5 to 7-9 days and my overall pain is a lot more, but honestly I think this is worth it. It’s worked so far, knock on wood, but I like seeing the regularity of my period. I always know when it’s coming every month. I’ve watched reviews of the liletta and others, most of the women had headaches or severe weight gain or it failing or their period lasts for months or they don’t have a period at all. I haven’t had any of these side effects so far. The only significant thing is the pain, but I usually alternate between Tylenol and ibuprofen a couple days when the pain is severe, and then I’m fine the rest of the days. Insertion was very uncomfortable, they had to redo mine cause I needed a break. The most pain came from the speculum cause it was too big and then they switched to a smaller one and it was better. I’m watching this video because my doctor is advising me to get the liletta to help with my iron deficiency, but I think I want to keep my paragard and continue taking my iron supplements. I think the positives outweigh the negatives. But these are factors to think about if you are considering the paragard. Also it lasts ten years supposedly so that is pretty cool 😀.

I just got my Paraguard yesterday! I had been taking pills since I was 14 and was beginning to be hospitalized for migraines due to the estrogen in the pill. I chose copper because no matter which BC I chose it was hormone based and I didn’t want the migraines anymore or the risk of it after going through with a whole procedure. It was definitely a 10/10 pain! So intense and you can’t brace against it since the speculum holds you open. I was instantly sick to my stomach, had some type of hot flash moment while in the lobby scheduling my check up and nearly passed out. Almost threw up leaving the hospital. Felt like death all day. Today is much better (almost anything would be considering how bad it was) and watching your video made me feel not so alone. Thank you for this honesty!

Hey! I did end up getting it. I had the IUD for about 6 months. All was good and no side effects!! I didn’t get a chance to test it out with a partner so idk about the strings. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get over the idea of having an object inside of me so that always freaked me out if I felt something funny going on. Ended up getting it removed and just taking progesterone only pills. I would give it a try! You don’t know until you test it out for yourself. Insertion wasn’t too bad, I’d say 6/10 pain and removal was EASY!

I’ve had mine for 8 months and the cramps DO get better, the first few months I couldn’t function off of painkillers on my period but now I can go mostly without medicine with only mild discomfort. When I do take medication it takes away most of the pain. 10 times better than the beginning. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. The only thing that’s hard about it is the amount of blood. I have never experienced that much in my life. My first period I bleed through my pants 2 separate days at school. The next month I decided to try a period cup which made it feel like I was barely on my period (I had to pair it with period underwear as well though because the bleeding is still too heavy for the cups).That was my experience anyway. TOTALLY worth it still! No babies and no hormones, it’s the best! I love my IUD, but it’s definitely something you have to really feel good about it to get through the period days and insertion 😅

@leximarshall1500 I got it, but unfortunately, it didn't fit me, so I had to change to the implant. Definitely get it checked after about a month to make sure it hasn't moved. I had it removed and re inserted to try again. But it moved again, so I had to get it removed. Needless to say, the pain when it was getting inserted was like 1 min or less of your worst cramps. It wasn't that bad, but it definitely comfy. The people guide you through the whole process and tell you when the pain is coming by saying, "There's gonna be some pressure here." The people were super chill, and I tried to scroll ticktock while it was getting interested, but I found I rather hear them step me through the process. It was quick! I recommend trying it because the removal process didn't have any pain for me both times!

So, in regards of Pap smears (if anyone is interested) I know some ppl get freaked out but to be honest (in my experience) and I’ve had quite a few, I wouldn’t say it hurts, it just feels uncomfortable. Like, the jelly they use for lubrication can be cold or warm. If it’s warm, 👍🏾that helps. It’s the idea of the clamp/insertion metal thing they use is what mentally gets me (which I think is what bothers everybody else). It doesn’t scrape or anything like that, hopefully that’s warm too. It’s just a slight pressure. Then there’s the Q-tip-like thing they use which is like a little tickle or you barely feel it at all. The process doesn’t last long and that’s it.

After a few months, my period is back to normal with just a little more cramping ! I had a pretty mild one beforehand so no big deal. My doctor inserted my copper IUD during my period, apparently that makes it less painful (and saves a pregnancy test). I did find it painful (think worse cramp ever) and had a difficult period after that one, then it normalized. I went back to using a menstrual cup after two months passed which is the window of time where it is most likely to get disloged, although my doctor said I couldn't; i looked it up online and saw some other doctors disagreeing with her opinion, so i'm taking the risk and being extra careful removing my cup.

I ca not lie the pain of insertion was a lot and my doctor told me that’s common for women who haven’t experience child birth. The drive home I whimpered like an injured animal on every bump in the road. I took paracetamol just before my insertion which I recommend and give yourself a few hours afterwards to relax should the cramps hit . For me the bleeding, pain and spotting was constant for 2 months and I felt so lost and down but I stuck with it and as the months went by I seen the benefits. Now a year in my skin is the same as before, my weight is the same, my mood is stable/ normal for me, my periods are every other month very minor pain and light bleeding. Period pain prior to the coil was crippling where as now I can carry on with my life I’m not controlled by pain. For those who have just it inserted and can’t see the benefits yet stick with it they will come. And those debating is it worth getting I say hell yes

Thanks for this I see you had discomfort for 2 months and you held on. This gives me hope. Mine is 8 days old and terrible, gassy too😔. But your comment has given me hope

@@shirleen_globe sorry to hear that I hope your negative side effects go away soon. It has been the best thing for me but the first few weeks I won’t lie I debated if I made a mistake. But after the first two months till present day it’s the best health decision I ever made !! Hang in on there x

THANK YOU for this. I’m on a 3 month waiting list in England for the copper IUD and I’m scared about insertion already! Contemplating the low hormone IUD but think I’d definitely prefer no hormones! X

I just cancelled my appointment lol but mainly because I already have excruciating periods, and the thought of spotting for possibly half the year is a HECK no for me dawg! Besides, I kinda miss taking the pill. The only problem I had with that was just having to remember to take it each day!

I had the Paragard inserted this week and it really wasn't painful. I would compare the pain equivalent to getting a piercing. 1/10 pain. I took 800 mg of ibuprofen 1 hour before insertion and had it inserted on day 7 of my cycle while my cervix was still soft from recent menstruation.

I have my copper iud for almost 2 years now and it's gud now when I just inserted it though it was a hole other story I bleed for 3 weeks none stop and d pain was omg it was horrible but after 3 weeks of unbearable pain it became good and I don't regret it at all and might I say after I inserted it I went straight to work yes I started to feel a little pain from I was at work but the day after I put it in was when the pain begin .and I hardly av painful period so maybe 2 months worth of not heavy period and then on the 3 month it become heavy and my period only last for 4 days just as usual like my regular period days

Did you talk to a doctor about the bleeding for 3 weeks? Is it normal to bleed for that long after a copper iud insertion? x
