Most beautiful interpretation ever. Too many pianists play it too quickly. I love the slow tempo. Brings tears to my eyes every time

Just listened to another great pianist that played 7 minutes faster! Ivo Pogorelich still makes it to the top. I understand that people have favourate interpretations, well, this interpretation sits well with me.

Heard him play in San Francisco back in the 80’s and he was spectacular. He played the Liszt b minor sonata and several pieces by Scarlatti. Why would such a great talent simply disappear for so many years? If I could play like him, they’d have to drag me away from the concert hall in chains!

I heard him twice in SF. I.because I heard him play Scarlatti. Beethoven OP 22. and the obscure stand alone prelude in C# minor and The CHOPIN B minor sonata. It was at Davies...and it this concert was incredible

@@rag2458 Just type in "Glenn Gould on Beethoven." It's from his old television stuff. He gives a little talk before he plays. Some examples: "The Tempest," Opus. 110 and the 32 Variations.

At 19 minutes in, Beethooven begins to sound a lot like American Ragtime from New Orleans in the early 1900's.

20th century I believe is from 1900 to 1999. The 21st century begins from year 2000 through 2024 and on to 2099. Then the 22nd century is from 2100 through 2199 and so forth. This video must have been recorded between 1980 (Ivo was then age 22) and 1996 ( Ivo was 38) when his wife died in front of him from liver cancer when she vomited up black blood and died in his arms. She may have been age 61 at that time. Check Google for accuracy. She was his piano and music teacher and mentor and Ivo loved her very much.

I agree, and the fade-outs are maybe a tad too soft. However, it is his interpretation and is commendable to the last note. For me, when Glenn Gould is at the keyboard, it's almost spooky, a seance that brings Beethoven into the room. Sparks fly. It is beyond genius. That said, I am grateful for the luxury of hearing all of these artists sharing their talent. ■ Proclaiming anything as "the best" by inference implies that everything else is inferior. This is simply not true. I like a rich cafe latté, double shot, with fresh full-cream milk and served in a glass, and I am happy to sit at the table with another coffee drinker who enjoys it another way. 🤝
