Small Video on the amazing Parry Thomas.
The Flying Welshman held the land speed record for over a year when it was hotly contested in the mid 1920s.
Thanks for watching.

I live opposite the cemetery JG is buried. I walk my dog there every morning and while she stopped to eyeball a squirrel I noticed his grave. I read it with great interest being a fan of Brooklands and upon searching found this video.. so thank you, I'm so pleased to see his back story and such a tragedy he died so young.

When they push the car out of the garage in the vid... The chap sitting on the wall with the white hat on... Thats my Grandad! I remember him telling me many years ago.. He raced Bikes on Pendine sands for a chap called Handel Davies.. Thanks for the vid mate..

I remember a family friend (Ted Deschoolmeester) and my Dad talking about the accident back in the 70's at our house , I think Ted said he was 10yrs old and there with his big brother, they didn't see the crash but the speed the car was doing looked out of this world to them! when I questioned Ted about Parry-Thomas he told me that Parry -Thomas was a brave man and died doing what he loved, he didn't want to say anymore about it as remembering that day was so sad for him.

I remember when this car was recovered from the beach at Pendine. Decades in the wet and and it was still recognisable. You could see the chain drive wheel.

Brilliant, thank you ! I'm from South Wales. about 30 miles from Pendine, and my Great- Aunt (died in 1988 unfortunately) , was there and saw the attempt ! She was on her first date with a Carmarthen man, so not the most joyous day out despite his admirable idea to go to see a world record attempt - but she ended up marrying him anyway ! She told me she never forgot the unbelievable speed of Babs, she didn't see the crash or its consequences because the car was so far past where they were, the people all knew something awful had happened though because of the terrible noise, she said it was 'like thunder' even though it was hundreds of yards away.

Thanks for watching and for sharing that story! And that's class, must equally amazing and horrifying to witness first hand. A memorable first date anyway!! 🤣 Pendine is truly an amazing place. Has a certain "magic" surrounding it. My brother and myself are looking forward to returning there during the year.

What an amazing story you put together. "J.G Parry-Thomas The Flying Welshman"... A fine tribute to the relatively this unknown and heroic J.G Parry-Thomas.. Thank you for this beautiful film on Land speed records.

I've driven on the salt in land speed racing and that is hard enough to keep a car running where you it to go let alone race on sand. In New Zealand in the early 30's Australian Norman 'Wizard' Smith attempted to break the record on the North islands ninety mile Beach also, but the beach kept beating him .

This is very interesting and informative. Thank you. I visited Pendine all the time and always like to go to the museum, which Babs is in.

I grew up in Pendine and have fond memories of the place, there was another attempt by Barry Bowles in a car called the blonde bombshell, I was there when he crashed the blonde bombshell a truly frightening rocket powered car

Pendine certainly has a magic about it. And thanks for mentioning Barry Bowles, having a quick research on him there, that's definitely going to be in a future video. Thanks for that info.

@@formulaphil9112 that car had so much power when he started to feel the car jink and go off course he put the power back on and bent the back of the chassis as the rocket tried to straighten itself, the crash happened right in front of me
