"Shall I fight for my birthright or do I wait here until its destroyed" I love this quote its her talking to her son but also showing her younger side who wanted to be a knight and fight like the men she commands.
@@masterplokoon8803 We do not know yet which trajectory the showrunners would take us on. We do know that the books were basically second hand accounts of what had actually transpired - the words of Maesters and court jesters. We also know how victors can rewrite history as they see fit so it's entirely possible that the true story was skewed to paint Rhaenyra as a coward and tyrant. GRRM may not be happy with the trajectory of the show that the writers are taking but it is up to the showrunners to make the final decision. Book purists might denounce the changes as blasphemy but fans of Team Black and Rhaenyra would celebrate it.
@@s_shaleh it's not book purism. And there are no true victors in this war though the most important survivors don't hate Rhaenyra. And the book is based on first hand acounts and the only maester written acount favours Rhaenyra, the court jester was also her suporter. Rhaenyra's cowardice was a big part of her character and had massive consequences in the war. The story wasn't skewed to make her a coward, she just was. Trying to paint her as a Joan of Arc warrior woman style character is ridiculous specially when there are plenty of women in the book story that have that sort of personality( Rhaenyra just happens to not be one of them). Yes I am sure people who suport team Rhaenyra blindly are thrilled with her being whitewashed and her flaws almost completely removed while team green has been constantly demonized. Missing the whole point of the story. But now she also happens to be a boring character that is more of a symbol than an actual person.
@@masterplokoon8803yeah, if anything she is more Viserys. Try too hard to be "reasonable" and appeasing but end up coming across as weak and easily manipalated
this scene was absolutely amazing. mother-son duo talking. yes, they started as queen and prince, but then it slowly become a mom discussing her worries with her son.
@@matthewganzan9020 Not ''exactly'' because everyone's breakdown/descent is different. noone uses ''mad'' in this way anymore. it's insanity, not madness.
Rhaenyra shows so much more awareness of self and others then does alicent. At the end of the day that is the true story between the lines of the whole Dance.
@@justincase7848 Oh have you. ever heard of such thing as genetics? I wasn't raised to be clinicale depressed for example but I did inherit it genetically and all that was ingrained through raising me was futile against illness. also, good parents can still have their child turn out to be a bad person and vice versa.

@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 I was referring veey specifically to character, not to mental illness. As i specifically wrote, it is possible for children who were raised well to develop bad character, and vice versa, but that is thr exception rather then the norm
Idk why but I love it when they talk about the Greens using their names. “is Aegon dead? Aemond will not wait to press advantage.” Makes you feel like yeah….. they’re family. I almost forgot. Lol
3:35 The actor looks so much like Daniel Day Lewis in this delivery, with his hands up. The actor for jacaerys isn’t always perfect, but some of his lines are delivered so well like an actor beyond his years.
Okay but I love how Jace went all raaawr! On her (very much like a young dragon) then Rhae went RAAAAARRR!! *Furious dragon mom mode on* and made him reconsider scolding his own mother, I also love how quickly he turned things around, his strategic side working immediately to appease all the anger and frustration she's feeling, giving her new options and unconventional dragon riders. PS: Jace may be Hardwin's son but his temper is as ferocious as Rhaenyra and Daemon; the Targaryen blood flows wildly through his body.
2:52 if Rhaena has failed to claim a dragon, on multiple occasions, then its likely that Vhagar would never have accepted her anyway, as she would have been an exceptionally difficult dragon to bond with, due to her age and experience.
@SuvradipDasPhotographyOfficial no she won't. That guy who bragged about being viserys' half brother in episode 3 is Ulf the white. He is the rider of silverwing.
@@NeilsonBuntowa it looks like Rhaena is going to essentially take Nettles' place in the story (but hopefully not ALL of elements of it 😵), and claim sheepstealer whilst in the Vale.
Prince Jacaerys wins a safe passage across the Crossing for Queen Rhaenyra’s army coming from the North and the Riverlands and heading towards King’s Landing.. jace being a leader, politically intelligent, fair diplomat and a great conciliator you would have been a great king 🖤👑
‘Valyrian histories, written to guild us in glory’ - this line is so important. History is written by the victors - to glorify the winners and belittle/demonise the defeated. To be successful in war, you need to look past history into what society wants you to forget.
@@MichaelHachey Jace's blood is more diluted than Aegon and Aemond's because Jace has Arryn and Strong ancestors whereas Aemond and Aegon have only Hightowers.
@@t-obilgee6373 They have others. Velaryeon & Massey. Their ancestor Aenys married a Velaryeon who had Massey blood. Plus Corly's kids had Baratheon & Durrandon blood plus the above mentioned and both of his kids were dragon riders.
2:51 So they did try to get one of those two to bond with Rhaena. Glad they brought this up, it helps explain why she was sent off with some eggs instead of trying to ride one of the full grown dragons.
I like how they highlight that Rhaenyra is in an extremely bad position at the moment. Meleys and Arrax are dead and Caraxes is at Harrenhal. Is Aemond and Vhagar flew to Dragonstone right now, it would have to be Syrax, Vermax and Moondancer against her. I'd still be putting my money on Vhagar, and that's assuming he doesn't bring Dreamfyre too (If he can? I don't know if Dreamfyre will be any use to the Greens since Helaena is unlikey to be one for fighting. Maybe Dreamfyre would follow Vhagar? Who knows).
If Rhayenra Jace and Daemon all teamed up they could probably take down Vheagar seems better then putting strangers on dragons what if they rebel down the line.
@@J_ads2000 SPOILER ALERT Guy named Hugh gets to be the rider of very important dragon vermithor. When on quest to claim some kingdom upon Rhaenerya's orders Hugh claims he wants to be the king. He turns back against the blacks. This is from where all hell breaks loose for Rhaenerya. One side she looses very important dragon and at the same time she is seen very week.
Jace is a non factor here , and Yes Rhaenyra and Daemon COULD take down vhagar but one would die in the process . But anyway Daemon is not there so this was not an option .
And yet there are rumours she’s claiming a wild dragon named Sheepstealer. How the hell is she going to able to claim a wild dragon who’s never had a rider and are more vicious in nature vs the ones she’s tried to claim who have had previous riders and are tamed (sort of)?
@graceoakley3940 sheepsteeler was not aggressive unless provoked, and we saw in that episode that Daemon tried to claim meleys, but she rejected him the dragon choses it's rider as much as the rider choses it's dragon
Maybe the hidden meaning behind this is that Targaryens never die. They are hidden away behind new names, dark brown hair etc. Maybe the ending of Daenerys wasn’t the end of her house after all?
I think he meant that as a counter the hubris of the Targaryens. Like yes as the blood of Valyria they have a connection to the Dragons and can ride them, but the idea they control them is the illusion. A dragon has a mind and chooses its rider and allows them to ride so long as it suits them. But the Dragon can choose not to follow commands, as we saw with Vhagar and Arrax last season. So really I think he meant that, the idea they have TOTAL control of the dragons is an illusion.
There's a song that Daemon sings to the dragon Vermithor, that talks about three heads needed to ride. This song had input from George RR Martin. It's quite likely that earlier Valyrians used necromancy, binding the soul of a Valyrian to dragons so they could control, and the dragons descended from those sorcerously enslaved are the only ones that need Valyrians/Targaryens to ride. What's the Azhor Ahai myth, Azhor Ahai plunged his Lightbringer into his wife and her strength went into the sword? With their fire, a dragon can be a Lightbringer. Martin reuses tropes, and in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Miquella binds his half-brother Radahn's soul into Mohg's body, so that Miquella can now "ride" him/them. When facing the Radahn/Mohg boss, Miquella is riding on their back. The wild dragons on Dragonstone, Sheapstealer and Cannibal, could very well be non-Valyrian dragons. Nettles bonding with Sheapstealer by feeding him sheep could be due to actually working on a bond, like real people working with horses, dogs, and other animals.
Not really, no! Not everyone can claim a dragon. You need a blood connection to the dragons, otherwise you won't be able to claim one. Since the only remaining dragonlords are Targaryens, you kind of need their blood. And even then, it's not a done deal. Even with Targaryen blood, a dragon might decide it doesn't like you and it'll kill you.
Blood magic was used to bind the dragons to the Dragon riders. The Targaryen's literally have dragon blood running through their veins. its why some of their stillborn have scales, wings, and tails.
This part is guess work, take it as you will. The Targaryen Dragons typically do not inner fight to the death. This shows some sort of bloodline awareness that they do not like killing bloodline dragons. The dragon bloodlines they ride are most likely the ones they share blood with. Causing them to Family bond with them. most likely the cause of them inbreeding, the lower the blood percentage the higher the risk of killing. The Cannibal (wild unclaimed large dragon) is most likely not of the dragon bloodline that is bonded to the Targaryen's since it has killed a large number of them.
Episode 5 political tension of power and resistance is intense. I just love all the scenes in this episode. Its been awhile I didnt have this "want to know more" waiting for the next. I cant wait for episode 6.
If i were a targaryen, id always take the maegor route and ignore hatchlings in favour of stronger dragons, and i would encourage my kids to do the same
I like Rhaenyras courage but if Meleys didn’t kill Vhagar then Syrax hasn’t got a chance. No matter how quick she is all it takes is one bite. I love how they fixed the plot hole of Rhaena not claiming a dragon. Sounds like she had a near death situation beforehand which caused her family to forbid her from attempting to claim one again. Always wondered why the dragon seeds got a chance to tame Seasmoke, Vermithor or Silverwing before Rhaena in the book.
The 3 you mentioned already had live riders by the time this set of Targaryens were looking for dragons Vermithor had Jahaerys the conciliator King Silver wing had Queen Alysanne Sea smoke had Leanor Valaryon whom is quite a few years elder than Rhaenyra
If she had gone up against sunfyre then she definitely stood a chance and meleys against vhagar yes syrax got a bit lazy but she would still go down as a fighter since sunfyre had no experience in battle either it would be an equal fight the one thing rhaenyra had on her side that aegon didn’t is that she has way more experience as a dragon rider she claimed syrax at 7 years old the youngest to ever claim a dragon so i understand her frustration.
The only dragon that is definitively stronger and likely able to kill Vhagar now is Vermithor. He is the second largest, but much younger, so his age hasn’t bit at his bones yet unlike Vhagar who is already getting weary from her age, they need a rider for Vermithor.
I like how rhaenyra is literally looking at her black haired dragon riding son whom she knows is 37% valyrian at most and is still dismissing the idea of using people with partial targaryen ancestry.
Its interesting the show runners decided to have rhanyra looking at visenya as opposed to rhaenys (aegons other sister, not corlys' wife) and asking why she shouldnt take her as an example. Visenya was the more evil of aegon's sisters whom used dark magic and usurped the throne for her son, maegor the cruel. Foreshadowing?
If your half siblings can betray you, if you can't even trust your husband, where did the logic of having strangers claiming a bigger and stronger dragons comes? Rhaenyra ? Make it make sense
I don’t get how Rhaenera thought newly hatched dragons could stand a chance against Vhagar, or any of the blacks dragons. Wouldn’t it take years to become rideable? Doubt the war would be going on for that long
She didn't? She clearly told jace not to go anywhere in case vhagar demolishes his little dragon. She's actively suggesting she fight because syrax is the oldest dragon on dragonstone with a rider and thus their only hope of taking down vhagar if vhagar attacks.
Wait a minute so Rhaena tired to claim Verimator or Silverwing and it didn't work like when Ameaond tired to claim Dreamfyre ok, there are at least four other dragons she could have tired like Seasmoke, Grey Ghost, Sheepstealer and the Cannibal.
(Reads the last Name) 😲.....Ummmmm, yeah, 'bout that last one..... (Looks at bones of those who tried💀💀💀.) ......yeah, good luck with anyone trying to tame his ass.
@@MrPatriot112 OK fine the Cannibal is a long shot but what about the other three I mean on already had a rider and form the books we learn that Sheepstealer did accept a rider, and Grey Ghost is a unknown so maybe it would work or maybe it won't.
but grrm is stupid. because after the fight, jace or rhaenyra could have go to rooks rest and re-claim. because vhagar is overwhelmed from her fight with meleys and sunfyre is heavily injured. but grrm is stupid.
I hate these spoiler channels, unfortunately they appear on the main page of RU-vid because of the cookies and it's difficult to try to avoid them, put a less revealing title next time, but I think it's done on purpose
Yeah and it doesn't help with these cunt people spamming book spoilers with no disclaimer in the comments everywhere you go I read the book so I don't care but it sucks for those who are new to the story
Wait wait, “one of them is slain”… did the show go majorly against the book possibly changing the main plot irreversibly, and killed Sunfyre??? Or do they just not know that Sunfyre is alive and just injured/they don’t know anything and guess that he’s dead??? I NEED answers!!!
It was so stupid not letting Jace & Luke claim the bigger dragons like Vermithor & Silverwing. Like how did it not occur to them that at a time of war the smaller dragons would be nearly useless lmao
Imagine a group of famiies that wanted to maintain their power and influence and so wrote it into their histories that the only people who could control their nuclear weapons were people strongly connected to those families by blood. So what happens when someone desperately needs riders for those nuclear weapons and tries to outsource?
