Wasn't just the spin. It was that look he gives, albeit masked in shadows, with that pursed half-smile and brow rising as "It's gonna be one of *those* conversations" look that I know oh so well.
@@rcslyman8929 Yeah I always interpreted it as "Here I am telling him this very important information and he wants to chit-chat first. Okay, let's get this over with."
Daniel immediately knew Jack didn't appreciate the kind of "greetings" he received from his dead best friend. And Daniel was like turned around in an exasperated and 'damn it, Jack' kind of way then braced him self to start from the beginning again with the proper greetings that Jack wanted.
Honestly, Jack had soooooooo many incredible lines in this show that is kinda hard to pick the best. One of the best characters i have ever seen in tv show.
I don't know if it's the writing or acting or what...but it's scenes like this that is missing from modern science fiction....a lot of scifi is taking itself waaaaay too seriously...scifi is supposed to be fun and a great way to escape...dont get me wrong...scifi has always tackled real life problems...but they've always seemed to balance it out with light heartedness...scenes like this need to make a comeback
probably partly writing, partly improvizing on the stage. The issue with modern sci-fi is, that many actors don´t play together for such long time, as R. D. Anderson and Michael Shanks did and thus they don´t have wits needed to do such improvization. Also, not many series can have these funny antics between multiple characters either due to the script, or due to relationships of said characters (also count in political correctness, which is doing a lot of damage actually).
Zamolxes77 O’Neil actually kinda does this.. episode where he’s invisible... carter about to step out of shower : *peeks out* “Sir.... are you here?” *moment of silence * O’Neil :”nope” Carter:*hides in shower*
It knew that while you can be serious, you can't be super dark broody serious all the time. Sometimes you need to relax and crack a smile. Supernatural's writers figured that out and that's why it's running into it's fourteenth season right now. It's a pity they cut Atlantis short and brought out Universe which did a pretty ass awful job.
@@ArlanKels Well, we had Amanda Tapping and Micheal Shanks in SN, too. That reminded me of the good old days. And SN is really a great show. Absolute favorite and i copmpare it to SG
Jack,”How are things in the higher plane?” Classic SG1. Love how the algorithm has brought me back here for the once every 3 yrs SG1 highlights tour. Thanks Algorithm!
Later on in this episode sg1 are in the briefing room discussing Daniel and teal'c also admits that he's also seen him I always feel sorry for Sam as she's the only one who hasn't seen him
Star trek is fantastic as well. ;). Atlantis was cooler but sg1 is fantastic as well. Thing is i think what made atlantis is better is that every character is flawed. You dont see it alot in sg1.
I would put Fringe as 1, Babylon 5 as 2 and Expanse as 3. If the expanse continues being as good as it is, then it will rise to 1 eventually, but for now... Fringe/Babylon 5 remains the best. Only reason I rate fringe slightly higher is because fringe was good from start to end, while babylon 5 wasn't as good at the end (it wasn't bad, but just not as good).
the moment he tried to interfere, someone would swoop in snatch his ass out of our reality, and strip him of his powers then leave him a naked amnesiac on some distant planet.
Ascended beings have their own version of Star Trek's Prime Directive, though that only seems to matter for each individual plot because it gets bent (not fully broken) pretty often and the rest of the pack doesn't do anything until the plot needs them to.
Until he needed Ritalin to stay awake (end of season 6, all of season 7) delivering his lines like an Alzheimer patient. I know i know, im being harsh, he had personal problems.
The Ancients are horrible. An ascended being cannot do anything. Any interference in the galaxy will result in losing one's power and knowledge, and revert back to humanoid form.
@@doraliciamendoza4859 The Ancients have so much knowledge and tips to share. Yet they rather watch you fail, die of war or illness, etc...than help you.
Because playing god, even if you don't want it, will result in worship. Worship results in a transfer of energy. That transfer has the effect of a mind altering drug. This happened to the Ori and they didn't want the same to happen to them. That means hands off the mortals.
Yes, but if he'd held the knowledge of the Ascended in his head, it would've blown his nervous system. That's why Oma did it. Daniel, or any other physical human being, would have their minds / brains crushed by such nearly infinite knowledge.
I mean... I understand the reason as to why he can't interfere... but when Daniel puts it forth like how he said that last sentence, you'd have to be thinking "god, who would ever want to be an ascended being?" So impotent; all the powers you could imagine and so unable to ever interact, ever use them.
@@lauralynnasteriahathaway6819 Oh, they CAN do many things. Daniel could have killed/destroyed Anubis there. "The other" just wouldn let him and Anubis knew that.
@@Fion355 Yeah, I know that they are capable of doing things in our plane. When I said "they can't do anything" I meant that they effectively cannot since the others would stop them, but that is a mouthful and a very well known part of Stargate Canon so I didn't think it was necessary. I was responding to the original commenter @MetallSwede that an ascended being can do a lot of things on their own plane, and we just never get to see it. They are experiencing untold, incomprehensible wonders and it would be very worth it to ascend. They probably use their powers in their own plane all the time, exploring the universe, fighting the Ori, they just have to leave us alone. And we just never see it because in canon it is supposed to be something we cannot comprehend, like the Q Continuum in Star Trek.
is it just me or do their voices sound....off? bit higher then usual. But yes, I loved this scene, and the banter that jack and Daniel had with each other in the series.
If he's a being of energy / " spiritual energy " how did he produce the amulet that Kathryn / Catherine gave him ? Other than that, I liked the resumption of the usual Jack & Daniel banter !
simple, he appeared as his corporeal self so that Jack would recognize him, and the amulet isnt the real amulet, it is a facsimile of the amulet he conjured from his memory to show Jack what the amulet looks like. he is nothing more than an "energy ghost" that is hovering in place to give the illusion of being there.
The Ancients are a bunch of jokers, they create a lot of the problems only for lower end lifeforms to try and fix and yet they just stand by and watch. I mean seriously, the Replicators, Ori, Wrath, Anubis.
Daniel almost certainly have the same restriction Anubis have, he can only provide information or do things which he could otherwise have done as a mortal. So despite probably knowing exactly where the Eye is and how to get it, he has to use only information he can justify as being available to mortals and he can't just go pick it up himself and whisk it away. He is technically breaking the rules by showing up in that elevator, but he can probably also justify it being all "this is where I lived and died, this place was accessible to me as mortal", stretches the rules to their limit but doesn't break them. This is also why the Others stop him when he wants to fight Anubis over the destruction of Abydos. Anubis achieved the capability to destroy the planet through mortal means, but no mortal have the power to fight and stop Anubis. So Daniel breaks the rules while Anubis skirts them.
@@NATIK001 The thing i found the most annoying is how the "Others" are doing it. Like they dont care AT ALL that the whole universe they lived in will be either destroyed or be controlled by an horrible monster. Just to teach Oma that she/he (?) should not helping others.
@@doraliciamendoza4859 I thought Jonas was cool. But Daniel was so un-Daniel-like while he was gone. I kinda wish they'd have gotten to work *together* more (as humans). They could have had fun nerding out together.
