“A champion is someone who gets up when he can't.” -Jack Dempsey Can't believe it's been 8 and a half years since I made the last Dempsey training video. Hopefully I'll still be making videos in another 8 years.
Bro, I've been looking for the music you used in the original Jack Dempsey video. The music is great! Did you make this or is there somewhere I can find it?
It's hard too believed he feared sam langford but every fighter has that one fighter the admit too not being able too beat suger ray feared Thomas hearts oscar dela hoya want no part of jose lopez the most feared welterweight of the 90's
The old cameras distort how Dempsey punches and moves. People on here making derogatory comments have to understand that. Dempsey was a great boxer at range and on the inside. Dempsey knew every type of boxing and brawling. The man used to ride the trains as a young man with no money and fight in bars to earn money across the mid west of America. We can’t begin to understand how tough this man was. You want to see a man at his absolute peak fighting then watch Dempsey destroy Willard in 1919 to win the world boxing heavyweight title. Dempsey had 21 official heavyweight fights in 1918. 21 fights! That is incredible. When Dempsey fought Willard he was a perfect fighting machine of a man. Fast, hard and hungry.
@@irishscience580 how do you know he was scared? You really think he was scared or are you just spewing up something you’ve read? Not sure the man who fought all those hard men in 1918 was scared of anyone.
@@vantheman1238 jack dempsey said he was scared langford would have knocked him out. I can show you the video. keep in mind this was an old 5'6 half blind man. Harry greb by 1920 was the scariest fighter in the world, going 80-0 in three years beating the best middleweight and light heavyweights and even heavyweights. In sparring greb beat up jack dempsey a couple times. and boxers took sparring very seriously back then. safe to say dempsey didnt want that smoke
@@irishscience580 don't forget that in 1921 I believe, Greb beat Tommy Gibbons in what was supposed to be the fight to determine the number 1 contender for Dempsey's title. At least it was while Gibbons was the favorite. However Greb put on an iconic performance and battered the great Gibbons. Afterwards Dempsey's camp discussed making the fight but never followed through with it, and instead Gibbons got a title shot down the road anyways. I will say though, that Dempsey's handlers kept him out of the ring even against his will at times. Which is partly what ruined him once he won the belt.
@@irishscience580 absolute nonsense you talk, First of all greb was Dempsey sparring partner who was over 30 pounds lighter than Dempsey and gene tunney beat greb twice, Langford unfortunately was a black who in those days was never going to get a title shot not because of Dempsey but society wouldn't allow it because of segregation at that time
@@badguyrt4372 He probably went without eating while training sometimes. Some fights he had to go in without eating for days and then fought for 30 rounds.
@@Manny-nm8dh And That's The Reason Why Jack dempsey is The Best his Journey Was Difficult But It Made Him what Is in current time's a Legend Among MEN 💪🏻🪨💪🏻
Yes, the hobo life of never knowing where your next meal was coming from was a brutal existence. He often said that he won many fights just because he knew that if he lost he didn't get paid and so had to win in order to eat. That's a different level of fighter. A true Spartan existence.
Im a Muay Thai guy, this video proves a point both for MT and boxing. Just punchbag, speedbag, rope jumping, running and sparring. Just the basics, and that made the best champions ever, you dont need fancy tricks, just do the basics over and over again
People always think athletes are better now than they use to be, but they forget than many of the champions of the past never spent time watching TV or playing video games. Most of them were doing psychical things as soon as they could walk and people who grow in these conditions often have exceptional strength.
@@raymelleonard3075 In a sport like boxing, grit and endurance are highly important. The gap isn't that large like it is in other sports for this very reason.
Rainy Day Boxing is like a boxing time machine. Love this channel!!! (Your friend Michael here - number change resulted in my user name not showing) As always, wishing you the very best! ✌👊
If it was not for u I would be still complaining about I cnt do nun now I’m running 🏃 2 miles straight very motivating thanks my brother keep goin u jus dnt knw how u have inspired me
One thing about his boxing style is to being relentless. Jack Dempsey really epitomized a boxer whose deter was to move forward aggressively while at the same time not giving the opponent any time to counter or react to the barrage of punches thrown their way
They really need to hold bouts outside again. Every time I see old footage of them the vibe and energy just feels different I think it would be great for these modern times especially with all the technology we have I understand there’s a lot of different factors as to why they are always held indoors now but it’s definitely something that should be considered 💯💥🥊
Another good story of his. When he was around age 75, two guys on the street tried to mug him, thinking he was just another old man. He punched them both out.
It looks strange by today's boxing until you realize he was a bare knuckle boxer who put on a pair of gloves and turned professional and when you look at modern day bare knuckle boxers it looks similar in parts.
@@RainyDayBoxing thanks for the shout out on the interview you done with Legends of Boxing. At the end when he says about me saying that someone had footage of Greb it wasn’t long after the training video of him came out so I thought he might be telling the truth but now I think he was just full of shit. Great podcast hope you two do another one. Someone mentioned that sweet fights was going to be on with you too which would be great if you could in the future
@@RainyDayBoxing I thought you did an interview with him and on the Discord app he has a group that he has invites on ,he’s got a link on one of his recent videos

I dont see much difference between him fighting and modern day boxers. Same one two, clinh work, ducking punces are even better than today. Little sloppy, with no standart way of punching, thats all about. Many People Think that he would have been badly beaten by modern boxers, but This is bullshit.Try to stay Good, when he sprinting and bobbing weawing to you, trying to cut your head off with flurry of heavy punches, when you dont know with wat an a weird angle another bonecruching snag Will Come to you. Giffted by the nature, Hard power puncher with animal like atletism, he would dont give a fuck about your beautifull technique of ropescipping, fancy shoes, and training camp for million Dollars. He would trying to ripp you appart in every second in the ring, with every move that he done. No time to recover you have, even if you recovering, he used you to do it,waiting to catch you with thunderous combination. Fighting with much primile rules, fighting with no rules in saloons at the age of 14 for food. Much tuffer times, much tuffer men.
Yep, Dempsey fought usually 10 or more times a year. Todays HW boxers are lucky if they fight twice in a year. Dempseys technique was very advanced and sophisticated regarding defensive movement footwork and punching technique too
@@johnshell2480 he also developed the neck muscles, chewed hard material to develope jaw muscles, and even rubbed hard oils on his face to prevent lacerations.. he even took nuxated iron. dempsey was def ahead of his time haha
The Manassa Mauler was good fighter strong and had nice shoulder roll i think he hurted his legacy by not fighting any brothers but good video rainy day 👍🏽.
He fought black fighters just not after winning the title. He did try and sign for a fight with the great Harry Wills, but it was shut down by promoters.
@@keeganbluegrass No he didn’t any brothers he agreed to fight Joe Jeanette and as soon as he saw that he was BM he immediately declined to fight him. Facts are facts.
He fought Lester Johnson in Harlem to a draw Tex Rickard the promoter was more against it mainly because of no real money interest in it Jack Dempsey did say in his book that he was afraid of one man Sam Langford and stated that Sam would've beaten him
I lacked the motivation to keep making videos for about a month, but I finally finished a Smokin Joe doc that I think could be one of my best videos yet!
jack dempsey was a tough dude, but i dont think he was skilled at all, and i dont blame him because he fought in a era where boxing wasn't developed yet.
'boxing was not developed yet' back then they had 100-200+ fights. Against all oppositions no avoiding, and less weight classes. Repetition, and experience is the mother of all skill, and yet here you are saying 'boxing wasn't developed' Keegan is right you are a moron. Remember Usyk had 335 amateur fights. Thats where his skill came from not the sci3nc3 and nUEtricion. They had better trainers back then then there ever will be. Now it's all about how good your promoter is, but they made you, and many others dumb too, so you think were pr0gr3ssing. Honestly you deserve to perish
@@thegoat6116 yes.. but if it's an opinion that isnt based on any real evidence then it's not really valid...remember Ray Arcel, the greatest trainer ever, who trained Champions from Benny Leonard through Roberto Duran a d Larry Holmes felt that Dempsey. may have been the greatest heavyweight ever because he had everything.. But I suppose you know better?
