Just watch his no hitter for Vandy vs SC. He was absolutely dominating, locating mid and upper 90s fastballs at the knees and in close. I think his earlier years of trying to work that curve in was likely messing with fastball location. They got that squared away. If he can start mixing in a change up with that kind of control...😳

He was very good, but the umpire was giving him low pitches. His breaking stuff was outstanding.

He was definitely getting some low calls but they were borderline enough that it was believable! That happens at all levels of course where the pitcher is “getting,” a corner, etc and the hitters just have to adjust...or go take a seat!

Yeah... being the Saturday starter at Vanderbilt definitely means you’re a superstar. Gonna go at least top 3 in the draft this year, and so far he’s got a strong case for 1st overall. Very young & lots of potential

The kid throws hard but has no command or his pitches. I don’t care how hard you throw. Once you get to a certain level everyone can hit 100mph pitches right down the middle. Greg Maddux never threw a ball over 88mph in his career and won how many cy young’s. Location of the fastball? command of your off speed, and staying ahead in the count is most important the higher the level you get. Best of the luck to this kid. He has a gift and he’s still young. He gets the right coach to work with the sky is the limit.

I’ll take a kid that throws upper 90s with below average command over a kid that can’t even break 87,88. Even Greg Maddux threw gas in high school, everyone fails to realize that. Throwing hard is a requirement, kinda like how if you can’t hit the ball out of the infield, nobody will want you unless you’re Billy Hamilton.

The minor leagues is for learning skills like command, but if you can’t even touch 90, (especially as a RHP), you won’t even get to pro ball to begin with.
