Yeah, ss should have been paying attention to runner after he made it to second, 3rd needed to stay back at bag, catch made decision he thought best in reality the pitcher could have easily covered 3rd. The first baseman should have rotated down to homeplate and if the pitcher didn't decide to go cover 3rd, the only other place they should even consider being is behind home plate.

@@justinlafollett9001 Pitchers aren't usually taught to cover any base but first. The reality is the entire infield should have stayed in place and let the outfield back up throws. The catcher is the only one of their players that didn't go AFK after the throw was late.

For everyone wondering about why the pitcher was throwing 60MPH… Alcorn started a true freshman that couldn’t make it through the first inning and had walked two runs in and had the bases loaded with no outs so because no one was in the bullpen they had to bring in a position player to swap him with. The true freshman wasn’t even getting the ball close to the plate at one point. So while relief pitchers got to warm up they had to make a switch or else they were never getting out of the inning.

In case anyone is wondering, the pitcher (#20/Jamaal Green) is listed as a 1B/P on the school’s website. The starting pitcher, Austin Guzman, gave up 3 runs in the 1st and didn’t record an out. Green ended up giving up a total of 6 ERs in 2.2 IP. He also gave up 4 hits, 3 walks, but somehow got a strikeout on 62 pitches. Alcorn St. utilized 2 additional position players as pitchers. I've only seen something like this one other time in time life and it was my brother who played catcher in accelerated ball understood the rules substantially, got a walk to first, no time was called, he ran to second, catcher over threw 2nd he ran to third then got in a chase down from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd messed up and ran past him, he gets to 3rd, no one calls time and he takes off again to home while the pitcher was confused. Best play I've ever seen by a 13 year old.

I have seen it once in my lifetime. Rob Ducey, playing for the Junior(21 and under) InterCounty Cambridge Bulldogs scored a home run on a walk. The Kitchener Dodgers catcher for the day was having problems and every time he threw to second the ball would end up in the center field. Rob was a speedster and had been drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the year. When he came up to bat in the middle innings someone hollered at him "don't stop at second base". Well, what do you know, Rob took off on a wild pitch which happened to be ball four, and never looked back. He rounded second at full speed just as the catcher's thrown ball was bouncing towards centerfield. Rob never did let up and he crossed home plate well before there was any play at the plate. Honest story.

Who usually calls time, the pitcher? I always just assumed the umps did when a play is clearly over.

Those are the result of a position player, the first baseman, trying to do his best imitation of a pitcher and not really pulling it off.

I did basically the same thing in little league. So seeing college players do this when I never even made high school varsity is pretty much catharsis by proxy

When the runner was on second he must have seen the catcher bolting for third. I think that clued him in. Love the third baseman motioning to the catcher that he should have been at home and/or getting his ass up to run home as the runner goes home, LOL. The third baseman started it all, haha.

it really starts with the Shortstop walking oft toward first and not keeping the runner in check, Yeah, the third baseman should have never left his AO but it starts with the SS turning his back on the runner and walking off. Awesome breakdown!!!
