He was one of nicest guys you would meet . we got used to seeing him around Conyngham especially on Sundays during the flea market at the bowling alley . You almost forgot who he really was in fact 1 time while i was in the boy scouts in the 80's he let us camp for the weekend on his farm . This man was a genuine good soul.
Met the man once out of the blue at a restaurant I was managing. He was travelling for Kansas City to St. Louis and stopped with his manager for dinner. He was very gracious and met all of his fans and gave autographs to all that wanted them. When he paid for his dinner I apologized for the customers and employees bothering him. He told me "Son I never turn away a fan, they are the reason I have gotten to where I am today." he was most cordial and gracious in his attitude and in his demeanour. RIP Mr. Palance you will always be remembered.
Holly Palance was two years behind me at Beverly Hills High and in my best friend's class. Jack would always come to school events and was the nicest, most gentle man and very loving father. I have nothing but admiration for him on all counts.
That's cool. Did his daughter Brook go there too? Brook is the one married to Michael Wilding, Liz Taylor's son. THEIR son Tarquin looks like a mix of JP & ET. He's very handsome.
@@trawlins396 Yes, she did. But, I graduated two years before Holly and before Brooke and Cody even went there. Jack bought another house in BH after he and the family returned from Switzerland. You had to live in BH in order to attend the schools, and their school system was one of the best in the country, at least at that time. And, yes, Tarquin is a handsome lad. 🙂
@@trawlins396 Well, as I said, I didn't know all his kids and didn't "hang out" with Holly either. She was a nice girl, as were most all of them, and none of the "movie kids" were stuck up, believe it or not (although there were a number of kids from really rich BH families that were). So, other than the occasional jerk and a few "cliques," which you find in any school and any location, everyone was very nice. Of course, this was a different era. We had a dress code and were raised with a code of "mind your manners" that went along with it. That was the society we were in then. If you acted like an ass in public, it didn't go well for you... unlike today where the bigger the ass you make of yourself the higher your social media subscriber numbers raise. (sigh)
I couldnt wait to watch Jack Palance in City Slickers! He was an awesome actor throughout the years. My co-worker and friend actually knew Mr. Palance as a neighbor and said he was a very nice man. Rest in Peace Mr. Palance.
This is the second time I've watched this video thanks to Jerry skinner. Jack Palance whose last name was always pronounced two different ways, what's an exceedingly good actor and I think was a superstar. He exuded masculinity, assurance and sincerity. He was one of my all-time favorites. I never had the pleasure of meeting him but will look forward to it in the great beyond! I know I'm rambling on but this was a very unusual special guy! God bless all who read this.❤❤❤
I have always loved and admired Mr. palance! But after watching this video I have a whole lot more admiration for him because of the stance he took against Soviet union and the love for his motherland❤️ Rest In Peace.
Nobody liked working with him. He was goofy. I am being kind, because he was an incredible actor, but you would be hard pressed to find anyone that says great things about him.!
So, those who denigrate decency, what say you when you have to give an account for *your* life before the God of creation? Hmmm you might be wishing you had been a “bumpkin” too..
i met him in a cafe in Switzerland in 19 60 what struck me then and i will never forget it was a super gentle person he was... a gentle giant. quietly spoken and so friendly. i still have his autograph . Thank you for this super tribute to a great man.
Really your so right. I think it's a shame to have blinders on. I listen to music as I joke from Lawrence Welk to Ozzy Osborne and beyond. Same goes for movies "Oxbow incident" to " A I."
Some people love to make other people sad by doing or saying negative things. Usually they are young adults that live in the basement of their mommy and daddy's house. Real losers.
Both Jack and Charles Bronson were born into coal mining Ukrainian in PA, and escaped poverty and became famous through sheer hard work and talent. RIP Jack and Charlie!
Connie Crawford A lot of the actors and actresses of the golden yrs of Hollywood came from Pennsylvania, today we have nothing but fake hollyweird people with zero talent.I wish them place would just shut down.
One of my fav actors of all time That face Is undeniable…….his voice made your hairs stand up….. His eyes penetrated your very soul…..this man was the baddest of them all 🔥💯❤️ wonderful actor and gentlemen
Kally Anderson, I get the impression from his work that he was/is a good man as you have said! One of my all time favorite actors and now I learn of his humble beginning as well as struggle through his earlier years. All of this came to mold him into the great man he became. His being true to his heritage so publicly is testament to the character of the man. Tragic him loosing his son at a young age! Thank you Jerry Skinner for another excellent biography of our actors life and history. Cheers from John, Australia.
A doctor friend of mine of Ukrainian heritage had an aunt married to Jack. He would come to their family reunions. My friend has his picture with Jack at a reunion.
My mother went to college with him in the 1940s. Even then she said he had this Presence about him and that he was going to go far in Acting. Respects. RH DDS
Jack Palance did a movie in the 80's in which he said he loved and played himself as a character... "Bagdad Cafe", truly a charming well done story about podunk town in the Western desert, and the eccentric characters who lived there. Palance fits in perfectly in this ensemble masterpiece.
No one could have played the Jack Wilson character in the iconic western "Shane" the way Palance did it! About twelve lines of text, the rest body language - so frightening, that even the dogs would crawl away whimpering. A perfect "bad guy" if ever there was one. But also so much more...
I was going to say something about jack palance , But wont bother, you summed it up better than I ever could , Well done mate, Great work from jerry as usual .
@@peanut25john You know, I'm not sure if Jerry knows just how appreciated and good he is. Also Go to Hollywood Graveyard, The Guys name is Arthur Dark. He shows Famous Cemeteries and Always a little background on the people . Mr. Skinner gives a lot more info .
He always did a really good job at playing a bad guy . Wonderful to hear he was so proud of his heritage, a man of honor . These day most "STAR'S " sell their soul's for any award or recognition. Well done as usual Mr. Skinner thank you .
I greatly admired Jack Palance as an actor and a real-life human being. Several people have mentioned his film called "Attack." This war movie about a small infantry unit during WWII's Battle of the Bulge is one of my favorite films. I've always marveled at the roles played by both Jack Palance and Eddie Albert. They were superb, playing characters totally the opposite of the roles and characters they generally played during their long careers. For once, Palance was the hero/protagonist, tough and gritty, but really a truly principled and honest man, committed to welfare of his fellow soldiers, and to the ideals that he needs to honor as an American, fighting against the Nazi bad guys. Albert also played the reverse of his usual "good guy" persona; you know, the Green Acres "swell feller" that was predictably the type-cast character role he always seemed to get. Instead, Albert excelled in his portrayal of a cowardly, untrustworthy, disloyal, slimy, evil opportunist, mainly out to make sure of his own survival, committed only to keeping himself safe while betraying any and all of the members of the unit. Both men did a superb job of bringing their characters to life. Without spoiling the story, the ending grinds to the inevitable crisis and climax. At the end, you are totally blown away by the results these two characters bring about, in stark contrast to their usual roles. It's a gripping war story, so if you get a chance to see Attack, be sure to do so. Both actors are superb, and it's a fine film.
Very touching tribute to one of my favourite actors. His voice had a pull for me and I just loved him. He played the bad guy so brilliantly and yet he was one of the nicest persons you would ever want to meet by all accounts. I watched every episode of Ripley's Believe It Or Not when I was growing up. Thank you for sharing this video and I will be sharing it for my friends to enjoy as well.
My parents too came from eastern Europe...pride in our heritage has always been important. People should never forget the fortitude and courage our parents and grandparents were born with and past on to us. God bless freedom loving people across the world.
Very nicely done tribute to Jack. I didn’t know he was from Pennsylvania, my grandfather was a coal miner in Pennsylvania too. I knew him from his cowboy movies but I really fell in love with his acting performance as Dracula, it was superb! May he Rest In Peace.
Mr. Skinner ,you do a great job in all your presentation's of people passing ,and their lives living ,and troubles and tribulation of the individual's and their family, and friend's .Thank you !Sir!
Andrew Patten I agree. I could never understand why my step-father hated the Russians so much. He since passed many years ago. I read up on the Ukrainian Holodomor and what was done to starve those people. He mentioned that "they killed his first wife and child." I would hate too. Jack made his point like a gentleman and left the room.
From 1945 to 1950, my father spent 5 years in a Stalinist coal mine in eastern Ukraine, 75% of the men died. Stalin was still alive when I was born in 1952.
@@MsFutureguy I am sorry. I read the book I believe it was written by Andrew Sozyhnizan (I know I am incorrect on the spelling, I believe called The Gulags. What a horrible place to be.
What a story!! Jack was a real movie great, right up with the best, and had a tough life to get there. Great strength and powerful, he was what a real tough actor cold ever be. One of my favorite actors of all time. R.I.P. Jack Palance, you really entertained millions and millions THANK YOU!!!!
One of my all time favorite actors. A real man's man! So sad about his son getting cancer and dying so young. And his daughters, WOW!!! Those two women sure did get the good looks on the family! RIP Sir!!!
Yep, it was on LIVE before they started using a 4 second delay to cut out censored things said, and as Jack jumped down to do the 1 arm push ups, I heard him say " I c*** Bigger than Billy Crystal" Music, CUT, Commercial. And I started laughing my a** off. Ahh the good old days ! Billy Crystal was Hosting the show that night.
Awww another great gentleman of the films. RIP Jack. Thank you Jerry yet again for another truly brilliant bit of story telling. Big Hugs, stay safe. xxx
As always Jerry Skinner~Well done on bringing our long time heroes back to the lime light. I love and admire your respect for the stars who have left us. I grew up watching this great man on a lot of Westerns in the late 50's and early 60's. Thank you for taking a 70 year old woman down memory lane.
@@hankaustin7091 How about Charles Bronson. He also falls into the same category as Jack Palance. A hell of a awesome wonderful actor, a bad ass in several movies. A caring loving man. Plus there are many more like those two. Unfortunately they are all gone now.
A great actor, sensitive with a great sense of humour. Above all else Jack was a man of strong principle and a Ukrainian patriot! He would have said Slava Ukraiini! 💙💛
Jerry Skinner...thank you so much for your wonderful stories on these great actors. They were so unlike the actirs of today....they all seemed to come from humble beginnings and this made them of good value...not spoiled as many of the selfish individuals running hollywood at the moment.
Thank you, Jerry. It is always a treat when you release a new video. I have watched most of them 2-3 times. Listening to your voice is like being with family and gives a warm feeling that is very relaxing. Wishing you and yours well.
As a child, I just LOVED watching Jack present Ripleys. Only he could command the attention and glee of a child in such a masterful and endearing way. A great actor and a fine entertainer.
My favorite RU-vid channel hands down........I could listen to Jerry give history lessons everyday all day........somehow he takes me back in time like I was really there as these peoples lives were playing out.
I love your video's. As an old fart myself many of these people were part of my childhood. Jack was the real deal, a class act if you will. I remember the one handed push ups, it came out of nowhere.
Another stellar performance-Jerry. I really enjoyed it as Jack was always one of my favorites and really enjoyed him in the all star cast of The Professionals playing Raza the bandit o.
I loved his voice he had such a way of drawing you into what you were watching just like you Jerry. Wish I could give you a zillion thumbs up on all your videos.
I really enjoyed that, Jerry. A beautiful and informative tribute to a great and enduring film icon. I can remember watching Jack in Westerns when I was a boy. He had great presence and wonderful timing. He may have played a lot of villains in his great career, but that smile of his could really light up the screen. He'll never be forgotten.
Thanks for another great tribute Jerry to a Great American, FWIW while living near Tehahchapi CA we would see Jack and his posse on horse back with rifles it was the real Wild West. We even had the Rifleman Chuck Conners shooting machine guns on New Years Eve. IIRC Jack owned a several thousand acre ranch between Cummings and Bear Valley Springs in the 90s. Keep 'em coming Jerry.
Thank you Jerry. R.I.H. Rest in Heaven Jack (Curly) Palance. Rest Easy Jack Rest Free. For you are now where one day we'll all be. Thy load now light, thy task now done. Rest Easy Jack, Rest Free...........from Utah.
I put Jack Palance right up there with Kirk Douglas and similar Actors of the Glory Days of Hollywood! I still use his line to Jack Nicholson ...."You're My # 1 Guy" when teasing my Sons.....We ALL laugh....Thank you Mr. Skinner....reading the other comments from your Huge Fan Base says it all....You Deliver The Goods....Cheers From Ohio
