Still recovering from the loss of my 14 year old who was my Bestie. On the subject of intelligence, my JR could actually plan i.e. she had foresight. Retrieving a stick from the water, she would adjust the placement of the stick in her mouth as she got closer to the riverbank so she could navigate the stick thru the roots in the riverbank. I think JR's are very intelligent. The best dog ever.
Jack Russells really are hilarious! I'm constantly laughing at the silly things mine does. My covid stress went away instantly after getting her, because she's so cuddly and so goofy
Hello Josh. You have pretty much said it all and one other thing I did not know about jack russels is how incredible they are at communicating with people with their body language. It is unbelievable how my jack russel always gets her point across!!
Every point is spot on. I think it's hilarious that ever time I sit down in the bathroom my JRT is sitting right in front of me staring at me with a look that says "what are you doing?" "hurry up!" "I love you!"
I got my first jrt in 1993. She was the best dog ever and lived to be 18. I've owned 2 others. My 10 year old misses her sibling that passed 2 years ago. I couldn't live without a jrt. Your list is great. Thanks for helping new owners. One thing -- they will develop their own habits so you must be consistent and firm.
I have 2 Jack Russell Terriers. I adore them as much as they adore me. One is 13 and can’t take his eyes off me. He was left with me when he was 7 and his owner passed away. The other a six month puppy who is full of energy. It’s amazing how much love they show me. I have laughed every day since adopting them. Great video for Jack Russell Terriers.
I've a 7 year old Jack Russell a girl, were thinking of getting a Jack Russell pup will be 8 weeks old when we bring him home I wonder is it a good idea
We adopted our first Jack Russell terrier yesterday, we’ve almost had her for two full days and oh my goodness... the love and affection just oozes out of her. I now worry that she will be difficult to leave without her getting anxious. She is 10 months old and rehomed from an owner who is elderly and didn’t know much about the breed, a lot of rules have not been introduced at a young age and I’m hoping we are not too late to teach. Currently crate training..... she goes in proper moods when she is put in her crate at night. very funny! Your videos are certainly helping us get through these early days so thanks!
Don't know if I agree. After my Shiba Inu passed away, I got a JRT. The JRT is less than half the size of the Shiba but causes twice the trouble around the house.
These dogs were created to go under the ground and evict a fox out of it's home. There have been accounts of JRTs who have stayed underground for several days because they won't give up on a hunt Consider the fact that they have Terror in their name, kinda like a killer Whale has killer in it's name, yet some folks still go swimming with KILLER WHALES and get KILLED. Ok I know its Terrier and refers to earth but a JRT is not a dumbed down AKC version of a hunting dog. The JRT is a high energy, determined and intelligent hunting dog who have been protected by people like the JRTCA from becoming a docile version of itself . A JRT can be the dog that lays with you on the couch while you read a good book and it can also be the dog that climbs a six foot fence like a commando, kills your neighbors cat and drags it back to your living room carpet to show you it can hunt. There is also a much greater difference in temperament in a JRT dog to dog. Because you cannot close breed a JRT you might get a smooth, ruff and broken coat in the same litter, you might also get Alan Alda and Jack Nicholson in the same litter. This channel is a great resource for folks looking to adopt a JRT but do your homework and find a good breeder who can advise you on a pup that's right for you. There are plenty of JRTs at Jack Rescue because of folks who thought they were adopting Wishbone. Since I'm writing a book here let me add these are not good covid dogs, you can't leave them home alone all day when you go back to work. A JRT must have exercise and mental stimulation if they don't they will make up their own activities while you're gone and you might not like what they come up with or even worse they will get depressed.
Hello I agree with all 20 my Jack has made me laugh so much with the daft things he does, the way he asks for a treat he wow ohs it’s like he’s talking and it’s like he has a watch on as he knows when my husbands coming home from work as he’s by the back door.
Re: Dog lifespan. I knew a guy who was into Newfoundland dogs. He even went to a specific breeder in Europe (we're in Northern Ireland - if I seem like a dick, I'm literally just being Irish) to avoid any of the abject puppy farms. His dogs lived, on average, 6 to 7 years. They're the size of ponies. Each to their own, obviously, but I can't even imagine that. It'd just be a succession of gut-punches.
Just want to add,my jack being so mental super sensitive to sounds,I bought classical music,he loves Aled Jones,he looked at the cd player, got in his bed and fell asleep with his ears moving like a conductors baton to the music!,I fell in love with him then ❤ he also likes phantom of the opera!
I have my first ever puppy JRT, she is 4 months old and her name is Luna too.... She’s so beautiful, entertaining, funny, naughty, lovable and all the traits of a JR.... I love ur videos as I am a first time owner , they r really helpful..... Keep up the great work....
I agree!!!! Luna is a doll and looks a lot like my Farlie. If I’m holding Jessie and say awwww she will put her head on my chest. Sometimes I’m talking to someone else, say it and she does it every time ❤️. They both sleep in bed and Jessie is great she stays at my feet. They both start there but Farlie is always curled up to my back every morning. I can put both in the tub and they don’t even jump around, both let me trim their nails and Far like last to get his nails buffed out 😂. I Love my sweet babies so much!!!
All great traits and so true! Our sweet Buster slept around my neck when he was a puppy. I love watching Luna go into a trance when you rub her ears❤️❤️
My male JRT Mulligan talked to me I know this sounds crazy but his little barks and sounds were so wonderful. I miss him so much. Greatest companion ever all the things you mentioned and I had 3 Golden Retrievers prior to him which are equally as wonderful, just JRT's are a little easier to snuggle with.
Josh, thanks for the videos. Luna is a lover girl! Our Murphy, a Irish shorty jack, is the most handsome little guy. Loves to sleep 😴 under the blankets.
I work from home now also (securities & derivatives trader) & my Jug Scarlett is on my lap or next to me the whole time I'm working. We gave her the nickname Shadow because of how she's always behind us no matter where we go.
I owned a JK . I adopted her @ almost a year old in 2003. She was the best. She past @ 18yrs. Old in 2021. My best friend. I lost my husband in 2015 and she was my savior . Hopefully I will adopt another one when I retire. Missing the loyalty, love, cuddling and "exercising" without her. Great video. My baby also loved to sing. Lol ... Thanks for sharing. You put a smile on my face 🥰🐾✌
How hard is it to introduce a puppy to an existing dog? Any videos on that? I have a 5 year old Aussie…another high energy dog :-) And I’ve always wanted a Jack, but it’s never been the right time. Any thoughts on keeping these two breeds? Loving all the info on the JRT’s…bingeing them all!!
They're intelligents is off the charts in my opinion. I've seen my dog do things that amaze me, if her ball goes in her water bowl she will dry it off on a blanket or my couch. The thing is, Dory, is so spontaneous that she doesn't think before she acts sometimes and I do believe she has some short term memory issues but as far as just general intelligence she is extremely smart
Both of my jackies are my shadows, every where I go JD and Malibu (brother and sister) are right there with me. They are extremely loyal to me, I love the fact that they both love water because I enjoy swimming. Both of them are fearless, especially my girl Malibu. I personally call my dogs my "security system" they always let me know when someone is around my house. My boy JD is a short haired and he gets cold quick however, Malibu is long haired and she get hot, she normally sleeps at the end of my bed in front of the fan. They are EXTREMELY intelligent! Everytime I think I've outsmarted them, they prove me wrong. I honestly had to do hardly any training with them, they are both very obedient. When I go outside of the fence with them without a leash, they always stay right next to me. Absolutely amazing dogs.
My Charlie is blind. His brother BeBe leads him around like a seeing eye dog. They are both JRT- one short legged and one Parsons . I love them so much.
Adopted jack at 3 yrs old,hes horrendous, so many bad behaviours, the stress was unbelievable,a few little changes helped, got up an hour early so I could walk him, only 20 mins but made a huge difference in his behaviour when making my husbands pack lunch,he used to throw himself at the cupboard!,when I got home from work he would try dragging me out the door by my trouser leg!,would have 2 send out the garden so I could rest 5mins b4 walking him again! He also screamed the place down when he saw my ferrets or cat, spent a lot buying more suitable home for them so he couldn't see them! Hes 8 now, still hardwork but hes mine til the day he dies! 🐶❤
My jack Jessie is just like you say, she's my love and she's most of the things that you say x jessie is cute, 9 years old and the only thing is she barks at everything bless her x x
As to the comment all white Jack's again bloodline I have had lots of them brown head speckle ears or all white as such one thing I have not seen but one all black whit spec speck ears both parents were all white I had to do a back flip when he came out just mention the comment dont adopt older jack spot on my stud dog would eat the tire off your pickup however he is my best pal great comments good info .be blessed
My Jack Russel hates and attacks the ironing board everytime it's put up but completely ignores it when it's just put away in the corner. They are just great characters and great fun(this is my second Jack Russel who lived 14 years)
I’ve got a jackchi. He’s more jack Russell..he’s a rescue dog,had him 2 and half years now. He loves To cuddle up to me at night. It’s so cute. He is obsessed by me though and is always by my side all The time. Love him to bits
My jack russel is very very intelligent .He is jack russel x Daxie and iv taught him the name of all his toys and short phrases. He understands 100% what we are saying to him. I wanted to teach him to be more interactive than the ordinary dog. Time invested is time well spent
You have just covered everything that was common to my recently deceased Jacky. (Mia). That’s why we bought two this time. Love your you-tube segments.
oh gads,, my dog is pound adopted is a mix... she had 3 people take her and return. shes is German shepherd and Jack Russell. my best friend and so much fun. Loves us too much. she's very small but we get the best of the two top breeds dogs.
My Jack Russell Dalmatian mix hits all these points and she is the most stubborn dog but the sweetest even more than my black lab. She gets compliments every time at the dog park for being super cute. She has almost impossible to house train and just learned on her own again stubborn lol. She is seriously perfect though best companion and I am a huge lab and big dog fan but Mira has amazed me. We love her so much.
We adopted a 3 month Jack Tzu and named him Chewie. Very intelligent! In the first few weeks with us he already learned a few tricks. Totally hilarious dog. I play fetch with him till he gets tired and he sleeps most of the time.
My puppy who is about 5+ months old is very scared of any sound, vehicle and any other dog(s) in the neighborhood. I take him for walks but he wants turn back home as soon as we reach half way through the street. Not sure what to do about, he is good sport and does very well with playing with me in the backyard but absolutely does not like to walk. Please suggest something. Thank you
Everything is sooo true. Brady is 14 and going strong. His ability to understand generalized human speech is amazing: I can say "sit" or "why don't you effing sit" and he does it. I have a long list of what makes them the best. Chick magnet. Small poops. Tricks. Teaching other dogs correct behavior.
Thank you for your videos. Im a new JRT mom and I love him so much but had no idea about the breed until I got him so your videos bring a lot of clarity and context to his behavior and personality. He’s a total gem and now that I have him I could nor see life without him. Keep doing what you are doing.
I have River and Lilly 💖 River is 3 and Lilly is 7 months. She's kind of taken over everything. River gives in to her all the time. He really doesn't want to lay with her at all so she took the bed he would sleep with me every night not no more 🙄
Can a Jack Russel be trained to stay in a wooded yard ( no fence) ? I like to work in my garage with the doors open , my neighbors are 500' away thru woods. It's not practical to place a fence in my very steep wooded back property. My question I guess is how can someone train this breed to not go roaming away if I'm not actively paying attention to it?
@@jodie01 Thank you. I've put up a 5' fence now and I believe i will add an electric insulated shocking wire around the perimeter along the bottom and along the top. I know from experience that shocking the dog once or twice is all it takes to keep them off it in attempting to escape. I'd rather have a dog get a shock than risk and escape and get killed by a car. I spent 24/7 for 1-1/2 yrs with my last rescue ( I work from home) but he was a roamer and never learned to stay home. One evening he got the itch to roam, easily escaped my deck ( he was fixed) and roamed 1/2 mile away into a heavily trafficked road and got killed. I'm never going thru that again so the electric fence is going up. I can give a dog a solid hour a day of physical activity but I'm unsure about the 2 hrs required by the JRT's. Thanks for your feedback. P.S. Are JRT'S naturally car smart? My last 15yr old Staffie was car smart and I had zero worry about her around cars, was a homebody and never roamed.
We've had 3 JRT's. Just lost our last one at 14 years to Tcc, Transitional cell cancer of the bladder, which ruptured , totally unsuspected. He was our pampered pooch. JRT's are the very BEST dogs.Loyal and loving. So glad we found Josh and Luna!! Thank you Josh and Luna.
Our daughter gave my husband what she thought was a chihuahua, for Christmas. Aww NO! JACK RUSSELL for sure! We couldn't be happier! She's ours 2nd, having ost Mr. Jiggy Fly 4 years ago. She's the best mistake that ever happened to us and just who we needed in our home. My husband and I love your channel. Keep the joy coming.
We just lost our 12 yrs old JRT to cancer. He has been the perfect dog from day one, no good, perfect!!!! I miss him so much, he was an active member of the family and took care of my daughters like no other, so jealous!!!! LOL we have stories 🙂I also have a rescue dog, and he went depressed the same day his brother died until 5 days later when we brought home another JRT, a 10 weeks little girl... my second JRT. I love them!!!! THEY ARE UNIQUE... I love my other dog and a Doberman I had years ago, but these ones are such a great experience.
Hi , I have a Jack mix too , we just started doing meal prep this week . She loves her buttercup squash , sweet potato or yams , and carrot , and chicken breast with some rice , kinda like porridge ? No salt added , not sure if that helps . We do two portions a day .
All white JRTs can have health issues so most breeders try to stay away from it. " The extreme white pattern consists of a completely or predominantly white dog with just small amounts of colour on its head and sometimes base of tail.... Extreme white can occasionally cause problems when it removes large amounts of pigment from the face and ears. The most common problem is deafness (due to lack of pigment in certain parts of the inner ear, which prevents it from functioning properly) ".... From Terrierman.com
