Absolutely! Jackson rescued Warren and especially Crystal so many times that he should be on the list for sainthood. Once Warren beat Crystal up and threw her out of their Paris France apartment with no money or belongings. It was Jackson who arranged to get her back to America within a few hours. He also rescued Warren many times to save him from himself. Don’t get me wrong, as far as music goes, I’m a big, big fan of Warren Zevon.
What an interesting and different version of this classic Warren Zevon tune! First, he inserted a brand new, never heard before (at least by me) second verse, then he did the last verse next, followed by what would be the normal second verse. Pretty cool, I've always appreciated Jackson doing Warren's songs.
It's clever the way Mr. Browne makes the song a bit longer by sliding in the alternate verse from the Preludes version of Carmalita about the wailing sirens and the Samoan boyfriend. I'm really curious now about the unfinished song about DuQuesne the spy that WZ tried to write with T-Bone Burnett! I guess some questions may never be answered.
@@deanmccaskill5495 I did not find it in "Preludes" although I could just be missing it. I did find it on Warren Zevon on MV , Carmelita (1974 Demo) YT. Surprisingly, he did sing "Smith & Wesson" instead of "Smith Corona". I had always thought that was Linda Ronstadt's idea, but in the end, It was "Smith Corona".
+ Carrot Top. Thanks for explaining that. I thought I had always heard every line of this song with nothing left out from either Warren or Jackson. In this case I hadn't payed attention to the order.@Carrot Top
+@Carrot Top Hey, for us non musicians and non songwriters, would you consider writing out the original and then writing out this version with the double solos over the verse etc. ..... that is in this performance? I'm sure that Jackson and all of his fans would enjoy it. Thanks so much for the information. Can you tell us about your band and your interest in at least one of Jackson's songs?
I’ve always appreciated a beautiful girl but somehow I missed out on Linda ….then I heard “ Carmelita”….and will now spend a few nights with her and her music.
Can't quite tell if it's an actual physical place that Jackson says he and "everybody" lived in, or if he's referring to addiction. Probably the place of addiction ...
It's both.... It was actually a physical neighborhood they lived in. Which at the time (echo park) was where you would score. There is also a feeling, a meta-physical place where any of us who have had to kick go.
I've been a life-long fan of Jackson's since I was a teenager in the early 70s in Southern California, and I know he won't take offense at this or consider it a betrayal, but I much prefer Dwight Yoakam's version of this great song.
Dwight's version of this song is extraordinary! What he does with his voice, his unique interpretation, really intensifies the emotions expressed in the lyrics.

I like the Crows and Mr. Duritz, but I'm afraid I have to pass on their version of Carmelita. I haven't heard it in a long while, but Mr. Duritz' delivery was far whinier than the song required as I recall. Mr. Browne does what's necessary and no more, and that hits the spot for me.
