On May 31, 1961, French President Charles de Gaulle gave a state dinner at his presidential palace in honor of U. S. President John F. Kennedy and the First Lady.
yeah.... when you think the marriage of prince Charles and Diana was bad - look at the marriage of JFK to Jackie. That was a total joke. His father told him: when you want to get somewhere into politics, you have to be married. And Jackie was perfect for the part. He slept with anything that moved, and during their time in the White house she had enough and said she wanted a divorce. old Joe Kennedy knew how important she was for the myth of the perfect, elegant couple, gave her a million dollars of his own money if she stayed with him until his precindency was over. And he gave his son a warning to not sleep with his wives girlfriends. After he died she always talked very favorable about him because of her children. But it was a fairytale. It had nothing to do with reality.
JFK's back was killing him on this trip. He sank into the hot water of a gold bathtub at Versailles in hope of a respite. He took Dr. Feelgood (Jacobson) along on the trip, who helped him much more. I am not being critical; he needed him.
@@doneyhon4227 apparently Kennedy hurt his back planting a tree in Ottawa and had to have pain management on his trip to Europe. He undertook a course of calisthenics which, coupled with daily swimming strengthened his back enough so he didn't need pain management. He did still need a corset apparently, which may have kept him upright and in the line of fire when he was shot to death
President Kennedy hurt his back when his vessel PT-109 was hit by a Japanese Destroyer in World War 2 and cut in two. He never received a Purple Heart for this injury.
@gioka123 An American middle class woman can dress herself, put herself through school, scrimp and save and sacrifice for her children, and in times of trouble does not need magic crystals or hucksters and yes-men telling her what to do: she is independent, an adult. Her entitlements are few: she has to EARN everything she gets, as it should be, because it gives something that can never be taken from her- honor. Self-respect. Adulthood.
American women have had to work TWICE AS HARD as White American men to get the respect they deserve in the workforce and even then there was no guarantee. Now in 2022, white men of the ages of 60 and beyond are not getting hired for jobs because they are considered too old. THE TABLES HAVE TURNED AND MORE WOMEN AND MINORITIES ARE BEING HIRED. Maybe they now know how it feels to be dismissed because of age and/or gender.
It was standard protocol in those days for the President to always walk AHEAD of the First Lady on official trips. I was 12 at this time, and utterly fascinated with the Kennedy’s being in the White House. I noticed that early in his Presidency (as in this video), President Kennedy followed the typical standard protocol. But, later on in his Presidency, President Kennedy always walked BEHIND Jackie. This even became a “hot topic” on the nightly news in those days! I know there are other examples, but the easiest place to find an example of this break in protocol would be on footage of the Kennedy’s descending the steps of Air Force One in Dallas on 11/22/1963. I am not sure why President Kennedy decided to break with standard protocol, but have always found it interesting.
Some months before her death, Jacqueline Kennedy said about about trip to Paris she was very disapointed because of Monsieur De Gaulle behavior. JFK came to Paris trying to find allies against russian communists De Gaulle was very sceptic because the USA real wishes in Europe. There were still some american camps in the North East of France and De Gaulle wanted the USA leave France for real ! I mean no more american camps in France, no more american influence etc... The greatest misunderstood...
@@m.e.d.7997 heard Jackie spoke French as well as other languages. Yes she would’ve been a better choice but I think Kennedy already married her. Jackie was married in 1953 and Grace married in 1956. Interestingly enough grace became an actress after she was rejected from Bennington college. I never understood why she never just applied to another university lol. But maybe that was her first choice and her heart was set on that place. It worked out for her but yes Jackie would’ve been better as Rainier’s wife all things considered. She would’ve blended in more.
gerald stone. I know that is what I heard in those tapes. It's surprised me too. Jacqueline Kennedy was of French descent. Her maiden name was Bouvier!
Well, if it remained something French in her heart... it's not surprising. Try to ask any French person the same question. You will be surprised by the answer.
After JFKs assassination, France recognized Red China which Jack was opposed to and Jackie in her grief turned against all that opposed him and she says in the tapes that DeGaulle would never had recognized Red China had Jack been alive. I think it was that disappointed that led her to say such. She turned to France in may occasions in later years.
You confuse class with grace, and behaving like an adult. Diana, though a beautiful, stylish lady, probably would have survived ten minutes if her title and money went down the toilet. She did not have a college degree, she'd had little work experience, and I doubt she'd ever washed a dish in her life. She'd wind up like a member of East Enders: only difference is that she'd be a laughing stock of the supposed "dalits" of British society.
She had flaws just like ALL OF US. Diana spent much of her life giving her time to helping the sick and the less fortunate ALL OVER THE WORLD. She raised millions for her charities. As a young girl, she helped take care of her brother and household after her mother left the family. She was a great mom to her kids, they talk fondly of her and miss her dearly. Shadowkitty56, you are misinformed I'm afraid.
